Things have been changing over the last few years here. It was good to see they now have signs in different areas around campsites as where to walk, and where not to walk. They had a special program at the amphitheater on the Saturday that we were there, but they did not allow dogs, so I was unable to go. (I think different national parks and monuments handle this differently, as in Capitol Reef, in Utah, we have been invited to their night events when camping by the presenters themselves.) On recent trips, we have seen some strange things. But this past weekend (during an early and cool part of summer,) we were left stunned by some of the fellow campers. Originally, we booked on recreation.gov to camp for several days. When we arrived, we were able to move to the C section, which is no generators, and is generally more peaceful. Usually, most people are very respectful of other campers. There were young boys at the campsite next to ours who were very loudly discussing how they were killing ants with charcoal briquettes. Later, the father tells them to bury the briquettes in the dirt. The charcoal thing was a bit worrisome with the dry branches all around the campsites. Another night, at 3 AM, a young child is screaming and crying. A few minutes are understandable. This went on for over a half hour. While this campground and area will always be very special to me, camping in my own backyard in the suburbs is more peaceful than camping here during the summer.

So glad they had a very clean bathroom with running water and flushing toilets. We came about midnight and I accidentally set my car alarm off, sorry to our neighbors lol, we made a little more noise on accident just cus it was really dark. I thought the proximity to the highway would be loud, but we enjoyed a quiet evening of rest and relaxation.

We would of totally missed it if it hadn't been for some people we met at a restaurant. Colorado National Monument is not a National Park; it is a National Monument managed by the National Park Service. It's name doesn't portray the beauty and magnitude of this gorgeous park. It is a 23 mile drive and is often called the mini-grand canyon. The towering red rock monoliths and the Canyon views were absolutely incredible.

What bliss this is…read more Colorado National Monument is basically the smaller in scale sandstone-stacked cousin of the Grand Canyon, but without all the horrific traffic and crowds upon crowds, especially at the start of summer. This place has miles of views with gorgeous towering cliffs, dramatic canyons and many trails for walking and hiking. You can also see the Grand Mesa (the world's largest flat-topped mountain) and the Book Cliffs from the monument. And it has that Grand Canyon feeling when you look at its depth -- as though you are looking directly into a painting. Along about a 20-mile highway (with an east and west entrance) you can enjoy the full views. There are plenty of places to pull over and park to take a look or to plan for a hike. And be very, very careful. The main drive is very deeply beloved by cyclists, so be sure to drive slow and keep eyes on the road. Do not miss Independence Monument. This is a glorious rock spire. also, the Kissing Couple is adorable. The Coke Ovens are these beautifully shaped domes -- some of my favorites in the area. Also, be aware of wildlife. I did not get lucky, but there are regular sights of bighorn sheep, coyotes, red-tailed hawks, eagles and many other animals. I did see a pretty spectacular aerial fight between a hawk and a raven during a recent visit, though. Also, be sure to check out the visitor center on the west side. It has some natural history exhibits and a gift shop. There is also the Saddlehorn Campground, which is very well maintained and has a good number of spots, but not all with sprawling city or canyon views. All told, there are three loops with nearly 80 sites. Some are small and best for a pair and others that are good for a couple of tents on one site. Overall, bring lots of water and snacks, because it is dry and sometimes feels desert like. And do not over rely on cell service, as there are a number of dead zones.

Well I don't like watching drug deals every day. I don't like my money not being returned. If I knew of another place to go I surely would. We love that it's walking distance to the Amphitheater and the accommodations are very clean and well maintained. The community center area is such a nice touch for a place to hang out. Downtown Grand Junction is just a quick drive away, or there are usually rental electric scooters around the area.

Showers and bathrooms were private, awesome, and super clean. Two really cool features about this place are its proximity to the Amplitheater and it being along the river and river trail sidewalk that goes for apx 15 miles to Fruita. Additionally, the campground offers Airstreams and Cabins along the water for rent in the event you don't have your own RV. If I lived anywhere near here I'd book a reservation to stay anytime a band came in town I wanted to see and avoid the hassle of trying to get home post concert.

Now for the bad all of the sites and everything around them is rocks not gravel but rocks they have a couple of green spaces for tent campers and for kids to play but your dogs are not supposed to go on them. They have a very small off leash area That has some type of wood shavings. The only saving grades is across the street and down about a half a block is the city dog park which is very nice. Oh another good is right around the corner within walking distance is some of the best Chinese food I've had in years

Get ready for rules, rules, rules. I have been traveling for 2 years and have never seen so many…read morerule signs about every little thing. From the pool, to the bathroom, to the playground, yet no one abides by any and I can't blame them for how much it costs. There are A LOT of sports teams that come through here and they are terrible. They let their kids do anything, run around and destroy things and run through your campground. This place is the most expensive place I have been, well over $1600 a month plus power if you should happen to stay longer than anticipated and they STILL charge for some kid activities..like how is that not included?! $2 for rock painting, $1 for ice cream socials and ALWAYS have a tip jar out. They nickel and dime you for everything and won't tell you about it until after. Anything after 45 days here they charge you $5 per DAY for mail service. I didn't know til after. Their store is extremely overpriced to be expected. Bathroom toilets never work. The showers you only get for 15 minutes..there is a timer that beeps every minute which is quite stressful. The pool, hot tub and splash pad are always being worked on and in repairs. This place is far from a resort, stay away. I do not recommend and won't be putting any positives today.
