The day before our planned arrival, my husband was admitted to the hospital for emergency open heart surgery. I understand that parks have cancellation policies but this park already had my money for the stay, they would not be losing revenue on the site. Their policy is to keep the one night's fee and charge an ADDITIONAL $30 for short notice cancellation. I was told that if I'd have given them more notice it would not have been charged. I called them an hour after my husband was admitted. An emergency can't be foreseen 48 hours before arrival. The staff was friendly by not very understanding of the situation. No other park we have ever stayed at has this policy. Usually a cancellation fee is deducted from the deposit and the balance is refunded. I am pursuing action through my credit card company, will never stay here in the future, and plan on leaving reviews on every website I can find. Every other park I had booked for this extended trip was understanding and compassionate about my husband's emergency surgery.

This is the hotel for you, and I give it four stars. But if you are a remote worker, who needs to work while you are staying at the hotel, I would give Balanced Rock Inn two stars. The internet works well, but there are very few electrical outlets, and when I put my charging Block in the outlet, it kept falling out. This led me to having to buy a charging strip so I could charge my laptop. Plus there is not a desk, rather a table with a chair. On the brightside, the room was very clean, the air and heat worked great and the bed was very comfortable.

The door was very dirty from people touching it and it not being wiped off. Luckily, the sheets were clean and so was the bathroom. The room we had this time was on the first floor on the left. The food was homemade using lots of the fabulous locally grown fruits and veggies... The first morning was a Belgian Waffle with Hot Apple topping made with the apples from their back yard along with a veggie & cheese omelette's and sausage. Chocolate chip cookies & brownies were the snacks the two days.. Morning two was a souffle, Canadian bacon and fresh plum cobbler.. YUM!! Our room was pretty basic, only downside was the bathroom was across the hall and there was a tricky step that could easily be tripped on at night. I also thought it would have been nice to supply those fluffy bathrobes that most B&B's have if you have to wander the halls to the facilities. The hosts were great, very chatty and helpful if we had questions.

We just had such a fun afternoon today! We went on a food tour of Downtown Grand Junction led by…read moreGrand Junction Food Tours. I cannot recommend this highly enough. My one caveat would be - bring your appetite. You will be sampling a lot of food (vegetarians note - you will be well taken care of as well!). Rebecca Jones was our guide and really knows the history of many of the buildings we passed as were walking. That was really fun - learned some of the fun (and sometimes slightly scandalous stories of old GJ!) It went from 2-4:30 this afternoon. We met at Main Street Bagels Artisan Bakery & Cafe and sampled a delicious apple pastry while we got organized. Then, we stopped at Bella Balsamic and the Pressed Olive, CO. There, we got a really in-depth introduction to the olive oils and balsamic vinegars they offer. I learned a lot about the polyphenols in good, pure olive oils and the health benefits offered. Next, we we went to MX Tapas Bar Restaurante. We were able to buy margaritas at a special price - but a nice sampling of tapas was included with the tour. Here, as at all places visited, we got really good service with lots of background information about the restaurant and their food. We got to meet the owner, Francisco, and hear how his son helped change the longtime La Bamba restaurant to MX Tapas. After that, we went to Pablo's Pizza and sampled their pesto pizza. As always, it was wonderful! And so good to know about their heavy use of local ingredients and their wacky weekly pizzas! Then - to The Rockslide Brewery and Restaurant, where we met the general manager, sampled beers and were given a beet, cranberry, feta salad and a generous serving of fried salmon (see what I mean about needing an appetite? Our vegetarian had an artichoke dip instead of salmon). We ended up at Gelato Junction - we had samples of interesting flavors (baklava, ube, pumpkin latte, plum, peach etc) and then a cone of our choice. So my brain was happy - all the history. My stomach was happy - all the food. My feet were happy - nice walk in the sun.... This is a fun adventure if you are local or if you are from out of town (a fun thing to do when you have company!). Our hosts were gracious and helped out the waitstaff to ensure the tour moved at a nice - but not rushed - pace. We sampled local restaurant fares and learned about many of the historic buildings on Main Street. I hope they continue to add and change the restaurants they have on the tour. I would recommend this to anyone visiting or anyone new to the area. We were in a group of all adults. I would not bring children on the tour unless they were infants or young adults.
