Reservation were made sight unseen. Drove up and thought "what a dive." Yes, this place is screaming for a new paint job and landscaping. This motel is typical of 50s-60s era. HOWEVER- our room was clean. Newer carpeting, linens. Clean and updated bathroom and shower. Usual in room reefer, micro, coffee . I can't say enough good things about this adorable motel in Angels Camp California, we were going to Murphy's for a concert at ironstone amphitheater, all the hotels and motels nearby were sold out. We went to the jumping frog and asked the front desk if they had any vacancy and she said we were super lucky because someone had just canceled. We got assigned our adorable room equipped with air conditioning, refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker. We slept so comfortable in this Quiet little town. To add to that I left my T-shirt there that I bought from the concert, the owner of the hotel was able to mail it to me. I was completely devastated about my T-shirt and he Went above and beyond to help me get it back. We will definitely stay here again next time we are in this area. I went on a spur of the moment Gold Country bike ride recently, and as I was passing through Angels Camp, decided to pop in and see how much a room was. I cut a deal that worked for both of us, and checked in. While a bit of a ways from "real" Angels Camp, nonetheless the motel is in a very good central location, with access to quite a few restaurants a short walk away. The motel is a "U" shape, with a huge grassy area in the middle with quite a few picnic tables (perfect for smoking a cigar....just saying). WiFi worked throughout the lawn, as well as the rooms. The room was interesting - smaller (but it's a motel...not exactly shocking) with a dorm-size fridge, and the worlds last 4:3 TV. It was also a clean room, with a comfortable (albeit dark) shower, and a large closet area. At the end of the day, this was quite a comfortable room. I would have NO problems bringing the wife here. Not sure why all the previous negative reviews, other than maybe expectations were for a nice hotel instead of a typical motel? Bottom line - if you're going to stay in Angels Camp...home of the Jumping Frogs of Calavaras County - what better place to etch the memories than here? ;-) read more

I thought I would give this place a chance because it had character, and I never really have issues with staying at places like this. Boy was I wrong! This place was pretty bad. My boyfriend had a hard time finding this place using our GPS. It is literally a hole in the wall. He finally found the place and checked in for us while I was at Ironstone Vineyard in Murphys getting ready for a wedding. After a night of fun at the wedding, we just wanted to come to our room, shower and get some sleep before we leave early in the morning to head back home about an hour and a half away. When we pulled up to this place (I almost missed the place had my boyfriend not tell me to turn into it because my GPS said to keep going), there as no parking. People just parked where ever they please and not minding what other people had to squeeze through with their cars. I had to park in this unpaved area in the dirt. It was around midnight when we arrive and I notice that there was a door next to our room just ajar, and I could hear tv sounds coming from the room (the room was pitch dark), as I walked closer there was a creepy looking man just sitting by the opened door staring at me. He made me feel really uncomfortable. I immediately felt weary about the place. I decided to take a shower and go to bed. The shower looked like a jail shower with small pink tiles all around and it only had curtain. It was so small it could barely fit me in it and it was dark because there was no light in the shower. I wished I had a pair of flip flops while I was showering because the shower floor looked so dirty, and to soap dish in the shower had loads of soap scum build up. There was also a decent sized window in the shower and made me feel super uncomfortable standing next to it since the bathroom was so small, I felt like people could be peering into the bathroom while I dried myself. I came to sit on the bed and talked to my boyfriend about our departure for the morning and he jumped right up because there was a huge bug crawling on our bed. We packed out things up and decided to leave after killing the bug. There was no way to reach management about leaving, so my boyfriend left them a message about how unsatisfied were and that we were leaving. There was no place to leave the key either so we put it under their mat. All they did was call my boyfriend the next day to say sorry. My boyfriend called them back to get a refund because we didn't even stay, and they said they could only give us 50% back. He asked for a manager and the man on the phone said he was. My boyfriend asked for a full refund and he said that he's unable to that he would need a manager and that he is not available at the moment. My boyfriend told them to call when our refund was for 100%. They called back and said that they will give back 80%, and they argued for awhile until we got our 100% money back. Don't stay at this place! It's a shady place. In a shady area with creeps. The customer service is horrific, and sure as hell not worth $100 a night. I wouldn't even pay $20 to stay at this place again. We only stayed here because it was our only option for this wedding we had to be at and all the hotels in Murphys and Angels Camp were all booked. read more

We stayed here spur of the moment (not planning ahead for lodging) on a getaway back to the Angels Camp area which we love, after finding out pretty much ALL lodging in the area was booked due to the Butte fire last fall. Most lodging is still being used by those displaced and those helping or volunteering with the efforts. Kudos to those still helping! The 60's style Jumping Frog Motel is nothing to shout out about; it's the standard small motel you'd find in any town (think along Route 66) but the location is good, right across the street from the newer shopping center with a Rite Aid, fast food places, supermarket (I think Savemart), etc. Semi quiet, low noise from the main street. We paid around $70 per night, a little pricey IMO but... Rooms are compact and basically clean (hey, the motel has been around!); WiFi with password, we had a very comfy queen bed, a small table and chairs, small vanity area in the main room, standard stuff, flat screen cable TV with great reception, walk-in closet and roomy barebones shower. Only complaint was the toilet seat is low so that if your guy is 6'4" like mine his knees will be hitting his chin. :P Peeking through a few windows to the room next door, it seems the layouts are pretty much the same as our room. Definitely not recommended for a honeymoon or lots of kids but it's good for testing the strength of a relationship... the only better way to test is to go camping in a tent... Just kidding (or maybe not!)! We both enjoyed it (location was good but outside of old Angels Camp, a mile down the road). Good in a pinch. 3 stars. read more

This hotel is a real dive. Owner will not make any repairs. I stayed here a year ago, same room and nothing has been done to fix the cooler/ heat. They need to demolition it and start over. Management is blind to the disarray. 10 more dollars I could've stayed at the Best Western Inn a suite with hot tub. AVOID THIS PLACE. read more

If you don't mind the whole "motel" experience, then I have no problems recommending this place. This past weekend, we stayed here for 2 nights. Between 5 people sharing the cost, it came out to $65 per person. For the price, here are the things that we had to overlook: *The strong smell of urine that assaulted you from the moment you entered the room. Luckily, we had the ingenious idea of bringing several scented candles that masked the odor. *The room had not been dusted in what seemed like several months. When I tried to hang my towel on the headboard, I swiped my finger on top of it and wiped away a thick film of dust. *There were spiders on both corners of the beds. They were of the daddy long legs variety, but how hard could it have been to vacuum them up? *The towels all smelled pretty old and musky. And, they were really rough. Have you ever done a load of laundry and forgotten to put in some fabric softener and a dryer sheet? Well that's how they felt. *The bathroom was not thoroughly cleaned. I felt like I had to put a towel down just to walk around barefoot in there since the tiles were not mopped as well as they could have been. *The tiled walk in shower looked like it hadn't been re- grouted in 10 years. For all the negative, they do have free Wi-Fi, but cell phone service around the area is spotty. Regardless, it was still a fun experience. We were looking for something besides the chain motels, something different. We found it. Fairly well maintained exterior. Opened the door and it smelled like grandmas house after being closed for ten years after her death. One double and one single bed, they were both ok for comfort. An old style sofa on one wall with a semi large fridge and a small square table to which one can pull up the single chair and use your laptop. I had no problem with the wifi signal. The wash basin is in the room and the toilet and shower in another. The air conditioner made the room vibrate, but opening the window was annoying since the fool next to us was outside smoking a cigar and who the hell wants to smell that crap. I stayed here for a weekend alone on a solo motorcycle trip. It was a perfect simple setup. Staff was nice, the room was clean and it was super quiet. I love staying at older motels so I guess if you're not a fan then find somewhere else? Wifi didn't work but who cares? A/C worked very well! Would definitely stay again. read more

The Jumping Frog was a perfect ending to a long day of exploring Bodie and driving over beautiful but challenging Highway 108. The desk man was very welcoming, the room well-appointed and comfortable, and stores and restaurants practically across the street or within easy walking distance. This motel reminded me of the motels my family used to stay in during long road trips ... you park in front of your room, it's nothing fancy, but it's clean and comfy. Close to nearby attractions and pet-friendly ... just what we needed for our New Year's get-away to gold country. I'd usually give this a 3 or 4 star ... average, not good, not bad. BUT, I left my laptop computer in the room and didn't realize that I had forgotten it until I got a call from the motel that the housecleaner found it in a drawer. When it was picked up, everything was intact, including the $1 bill that I had tucked into the case. Very, very honest and excellent customer service. So grateful! read more

We stayed at the Jumping Frog motel for one nite. No plans to ever go back. It's way too pricy ($82) per nite for a run down motel. After the fact I found out we could have stayed @ the Best Western for $6.00 more Desperately needs paint and upgrading ie new furniture. The bed was too soft for my liking. The room was very small. Air conditioner was in the closet & didn't blow much air into the sm rm. the bathroom was not all that clean. Paint was chipping, tile floor looked dirty & was cracked. I recommend u never go there. It's not worth the $6.00 less than a nice, clean chain hotel read more

Hair in the bathroom, didn't look like it had been vacuumed, and the dust We were next to the office... in fact our room had a second door that connected to it! Believe me I know this is a motel...But really. This place is disgusting! I paid $127.99 for the night! The office employee called me 5:30 and insisted I come now to check in while I was at a concert. When I arrived the office, the sign said they are open until 10 pm WTF! So, I asked why did I have to come right away and I was told the owner made her call me. What lodging place would require that when there was a credit card for guarantee, lucky I was able leave and come back to the concert! When I checked out the next morning the owner said he was going to charge me $12.00 because I had two cars, I was never told there would be additional charge for a second car when I check-in, as we were leaving we noticed a very very small sign that said $10.00 for additional car along with a bunch of solicitor information. What a thief!! Of course, I refused to pay and I was told he would charge my card, well you know how that will go if he dares to charge my card without my permission. I would never recommend this place. We go every year to the Bones and Blues concert and decided to stay in town. What a mistake to stay here, look at the lotion packet they have for their paying customers. There is a Best Western, very nice that is even closer to the fairgrounds, stay there! I was pleasantly surprised after reading these reviews. I paidf $85 plus tax on Columbus Day weekend. ( Saturday night). The bedding and towels and such were all fine....better than I was expecting. WIFI worked at the managers office but not at my room across ther property. Oh well. Stay at the Travelodge!!! It costs less and you get a VERY nice clean room! I reserved a night here at Jumping Frog because the online price was only $75/night and I didn't know of any other motels that took pets. After checking in, the night stay cost over $150 bucks! Eeuww...the room was filthy dirty. I couldn't stand to touch the microwave or mini-fridge (both were coated in crud!), I had to take the coffee pot apart and thoroughly clean it before I would use it, and after cleaning the TV remote the cloth was black. Cable TV didn't work well..only got 2 channels (watched Cops), internet was spotty so I just gave up. The walls need painting, the baseboards are filthy, the lighting is horrible, the beds were hard & uncomfortable...and the pillows are old & hard! The furniture is weird. Miserable night. This place needs a complete renovation, even out to the awful center yard. read more

The room we stayed in was clean and nice enough but the Wi-Fi only worked outside and there were only a couple of tv channels that worked (hope you like Laugh-In!) When we tried to order a movie, we were unable to do so and the desk clerk had no idea how to do it either...I wouldn't stay here again. Absolute piece of crap! Stayed here after a concert in Murphys. Not being familiar with the area, I wanted to stay fairly close to the venue. It is very close to Ironstone, but that's all it's got going for it. Walls needed repair and paint. Filthy wall cooler was missing panels. The one light fixture to light the room was off in one corner and looked as though it might fall at any moment, was not on ceiling tightly. Blinds and windows were dirty. The bathroom was the worst. Old Formica counters placed on plywood that was crudely fashioned into a cabinet and painted.; gaps, wood mismatched and all. The toilet was leaking and wobbled on the floor. Needed to be tightened. The showerhead leaked and squirted water over the curtain into the bathroom. The bed was okay, but given the fact that the rest of the room was in such shabby condition I expected worse. I can't believe building and safety code inspectors have approved this place to do business. Don't stay here!!! It was the overall worst experience ever and I paid $108 for the night. read more

If I could a minus I would we found the jumping frog motel to be filthy .mold in the shower mold in the ice try I. Freezer.spiders and the sheets looked si bad we could not bring our selfs to sleep in the sheets wr layed on top.a cockroache fell and went down my granddaughters shirt.then we found another one on the wall.we had reserved it for two days and I was no way going to say again.I demanded my money back.he would only give back one night.plus the husband and wife both called me a lier.thats not how you run a good business in my opinion.plus I reserved a king size bed and only got a double.$111.00 a night ridiculous in my opion. read more

I'm giving this place 2 stars, only because it was mostly clean. Check-in was incredibly slow. We were charged extra for our child that we had already been told we would not be charged for. They charged us $12. My husband noticed a sign that said the charge for an extra person was $10 and had to point this out. $2 was refunded. The AC was in the closet and barely cooled the room. The front room door had been kicked in and was difficult to lock. The bathroom door did not close all the way. Seriously, could not even shut it, so forget about locking it. Privacy while you poop? Not at the Jumping Frog Motel! The coffee area in the room was gross. Dirty tray, no bag for the ice bucket, and the coffee packets looked like they had been crumpled and uncrumpled a billion times. Even though they had not been opened, when your sh*t starts to look used, it's time to stop being a cheap-skate and switch them out for something that looks clean and unused. Lastly, I think in an attempt at convenience, they moved an empty outside trash can to right outside of our door. The problem is that it smelled like a dead animal, and we could smell it coming in our window and had to go outside to move it. Awesome, thanks. Oh, and when it got steamy in the shower, it smelled like urine. Wouldn't stay here again. For $20 more I could have gotten a room with a closing bathroom door and no dead animal smells. read more

We stayed here one nite last week and we would go back. It's definitely not a Best Western but the rooms were clean though it is a old hotel. Beds were comfy and front desk help,was very friendly. There were 8 of us on 7 motorcycles so we had 4 rooms. Nice grass area out front with picnic tables. Stores and restaurants near by. read more
