​My wife and I have been loyal patrons of this establishment for many years. We particularly enjoy the fajitas for two. (The Margaritas are pretty good too!) The staff are polite and attentive, carrying out their duties with professionalism and efficiency. The restaurant is conveniently located just off Highway 79 en route to Austin. It is easily accessible, with straightforward entry and exit from the highway, as well as ample parking surrounding the building. Following a recent less-than-ideal experience with a takeaway order, I updated my reviews to reflect my disappointment. The owner and manager reached out to me within a couple of days to inquire about my experience and seek ways to improve. Stopped on my way back home to Austin and I should have listened to my better judgment by the appearance of this restaurant, broken window and front doors that don't open and taped up glass, when you walk in you immediately notice an establishment that is only about 20 percent ready to be opened exposed ceilings, unpainted walls and dirt floors, electrical wires exposed and hanging down, definitely not a beautiful clean eating establishment, as for the food it was ok, the rice was dry and crunchy, the tacos were small and the meat was cut small and didn't even fill half of the taco. All in all I'd give the food a 3 out of ten and I would never recommend or return here. read more

Digs aren't much to look at but my friends had a nice lunch at Julio's in Rockdale. Chips were out immediately; refills were prompt. Service was decent, but it would have been nice if our waiter didn't have the entire restaurant. I had recently lost weight for no apparent reason; so the ol' numero uno to bust my gut back into Yelp shape. Wasn't called that here but basically a first plate of a taco, tostada, and guacamole. Second plate enchilada, queso chip, tamale, rice, and beans. Also, an ala carte shrimp enchilada for good measure. Favorite bites was pairing the guacamole with the shredded chicken taco. Solid ranchero sauce too. GF wasn't as enthusiastic about her "taco meat" chalupas. Said the texture of the beef was akin to gravel. So, good and some not good. Overall I think the group vibe was positive. IDK if I'd drive back over this far; perhaps visit the closer Hutto location instead. Heard the drinks are really good; decided on tea as we still had over two hours to drive home. read more

Great food at an affordable price. Staff was pretty much just down to business which is fine and establishment was clean. The Sonoran Enchilada was great as was the Chicken Cheese appetizer. WOW! Not sure why the negative reviews on this place and judging by how busy the place was, perhaps some are unfounded. Would come back if in the area for sure. read more

My partner recommended going to this restaurant, he loves the top shelf margaritas and regularly visits with coworkers. I ordered tacos and he ordered Shrimp Jambalaya, the food was good. I don't drink margaritas so I ordered a shot of Tequila, overall the waitress was nice and the place was clean. read more

Restaurant was dirty. Dead roach in the bathroom hallway. Papertowel dispenser wasn't working in Womens restroom. Chips and salsa were good. Nachos were soggy and lukewarm. Complained and the manager person said oh well you ate them. Not really concerned. To me the food was bland. The table closet to us were repeatedly cussing loudly. Trashy! Not crowded on a Saturday night and we should have taken that as a hint to stay away! read more

There aren't many places open in this town on a Sunday. So despite the bad reviews, we gave it a chance. It's not terrible. It's edible and didn't make us sick. If it were cheap food I'd probably have granted it a 4-5 star. But it's in that basically $10 per person out the door price range so I have some expectations when it gets that pricey. Chips were hot and crispy. 5 star chips. Salsa (a green and red) were homemade but not spectacular. 3-4 star chips. The sweet tea had a awful taste. Our family of 4 agreed and had it switched out. In a way that I kept scooping the room looking for others who may want to spit it out like we did. #truestory 0 star tea. The food was average. The service was medium to slow in speed. The cleanliness was average, maybe a hair less. We didn't use the restrooms. Like I said, it's all relative to price. read more

This place has ample seating and the staff are very friendly. The Bartender listened to what I want and made me an excellent drink. The food was fast and fresh. I am always afraid of trying Mexican restaurants but this one truly surprised me. My food was hot and is truly tex-mex in my opinion. The only I would do different next time is be sure they repeat my order to me after ordering. I said beef for my tacos but should have said cheese for my enchiladas. This place is unbelievable! The best Chicken Quesadillas that I have ever eaten. The Too Shelf Margarita made by owner Julio Sr. Are awesome. If I could rate this a zero or half star I would. Part of me doesn't want to waste my time with this review, but I'm going to in the hopes that someone out there will read this and avoid this place like the plague. First, the ONLY reason I wanted to try this place was because on friday & Saturday nights and some other nights the parking lot is literally full and it's a huge lot. Normally this would indicate to a person that they must have excellent food. WRONG! This is the most deceiving thing because it's absolutly horrible in every way. DON'T FALL FOR IT. The only reason I could come up with for this is that they must sell draft for a quarter a cup and bottles for .75 cents and that everybody only goes there for a cheap party. Or, that the people that do enjoy their food have NEVER had a worthwhile culinary experience. It's inconceivable to me really. The place is extremely dirty and crawling with bugs. We sat next to one of the windows and the window was filled with dead flies, as well as, live and dead crickets! Unbelievable right? Soo true. The tables and worn out booth benches were discusting too, they had to be re-cleaned before i would even sit down. We should have left right then, but I guess we thought maybe it was because they we're just busy...boy were we wrong. I'll try to not even go in to the food, it'd take too long, but suffice it to say that it's not what I would classify as food...food for the hogs maybe. I really don't mean to be so forthright nor mean, but it is true. As an example, I've never seen anything quite like it, the catfish my friend ordered came out looking more like a desert plate sized pancake than a piece of catfish. It was as thin as a thin pancake which was mostly crust and you could see a thin line of white in the middle when you bit into it. He said that it was dry and didn't resemble anything like catfish he had ever tasted. Since he wouldnt, I went to complain after I had already sent back a discusting bowl of what was supposed to be tortilla soup. I spoke to the owners daughter who claimed to me, "thats the way we cook our catfish". I thought OMG seriously? WHO DOES THAT?? She would not remove anything off of our ticket except the tortilla soup. She was a very young girl that had no clue how to interact with customers or run a restaurant. And she was rude as could be. The place clearly needs a manager and a chef with an overhaul of the entire menu if they ever expect to gain a clientele with even the minimalist of culinary standards. I won't ever go back unless it is under new management, with a new chef and new menu. Period. I suggest you don't either unless you like spending your money and leaving discusted and unsatisfied. read more

Ordered take out tonight - so ready for good fajitas, chips and salsa. Well.... when we got home and unpacked the food there were NO tortillas for the fajitas and NO SALSA. PLUS my husband saw our order sitting in the bar for the whole 10 minutes he was inside waiting. The service and the chips & salsa here were really the only decent part of our meal. The restaurant is dirty, there was a smell that hit us as soon as we walked in the door. The server even recommended against the meal I originally choose, the beef fajitas, and instead recommended the Jalisco plate, which was chopped steak with onions, tomatoes, peppers and bacon. The beef was decent, but combined with everything else just didn't taste good. I actually ended up picking the bacon out of it. Beans and rice were very bland. My brother ordered their quesadillas and thought they were good. Overall, the place needs a thorough cleaning and better food. read more

We went here for lunch while we where in town and the food was good. The service was a little slow but there about 8 of us. I had chicken with melted cheese and mushrooms (don't remember the name) and it came in a skillet sizzling. I enjoyed it. The group we were in town visiting come here regularly and love the place, I thought the place wasn't that bad compared to reading the reviews. read more

Not sure about the review before mine... almost didn't stop in here. We were also passing through on a Sunday and not much is open. Our food was great. Red sauce is fresh and spicy, green sauce is wonderful. Queso was good. My cheese enchiladas where excellent my Bf's beef fajitas looked legit...service was so so but hey what do you expect from high school kids. I would give it a negative five stars if I could!! This is probably the worst place I have ever tried!! It is completely outdated, dirty, & smells nasty!! The server was terrible & she, herself didn't like half the items on the menu! We watched in horror as a group of servers & who I later learned, the owner, sat around a table folding silverware into napkins as one of the servers had a big sneeze attack, promptly wipes her nose & face with her hand and then without skipping a beat continues to do her silverware!!!! As I was attempting to eat my food which was nasty and didn't get far then watched that I had had enough and asked for the manager. The owner comes over and I tell him about our terrible food and about witnessing the server spreading her snot & germs all over! His response was his food is good and he knows it because he does $3000 a day in business!!! And that he was sitting at the table with the servers and he didn't see her do that! . In shock and disbelief.....we left not feeling good and disgusted with our experience! I later at home spent the evening vomiting!!!! Needless to say, we will never step foot in here again!! Having to drive 20 minutes to get anywhere to eat is enough to hope to have great food. DISAPPOINTED. We come here plenty and every single time we come they never can seem to get the orders right. I'm not a picky person but when you specifically tell them what you want and they still can't get it right. Needless to say I don't think we will be coming back here. read more

Food taste good but in 20 minutes you are going v to realize how much salt was in this food. If they reduced the salt by 90% it would be great. Nice place for a date. I've been told the booze is good and they do have a big bar. i don't go hear because of the excess salt, I rather go to band as for just as good of food but way less salt. read more

Chirl about said it all. It truly is amazing to see so many cars in the lot. Last time I had to go there (family birthday and I had no say in picking the location) I ordered a chicken dish. Figured that would be pretty easy to fix...broil it, throw it on a plate, cover it with cheese. No so fast boys and girls. It was so rubbery (about the consistency of raw chicken) that I literally could not cut it with a knife. They did take it off the tab. Wow, we went to this restaurant, a restaurant that was named Julio's, decorated in a Latin Style, and a menu purporting to describe Tex-Mex food items, yet, when the food arrived, it was representative in appearance and name only. First, the appetizer round, queso, salsa and guacamole with chips, not much could go wrong here, am I right?? No, I'm afraid so much could go wrong here, and I should have walked at this point, my error, I hoped upon hope the entrees would save the day. The queso, at Julios, means melted velveeta cheese, or perhaps a lower class version, with no spices or jalapeños, or anything added. The guacamole like paste did have tomato chunks, but the paste had a blended consistency that was unnatural and again, no apparent spicing or flavors. Our table speculated that the "guacamole" paste was only avocado flavored, and perhaps arrived in industrial blue barrels. The two "salsas" were as pedestrian and plain as was possible, I would expect spicier salsa from an Amish kitchen. So I requested hot sauce, I was offered either Louisiana Chef or Tabasco. "Mexican" food, In Name Only. I'm tired of typing, the entrees were insipid, the very definition of insipid, if you need food, this was unobjectionable to eat, it was a bland conglomeration of ingredients arranged to look like Tex-Mex, avoid this restaurant unless you actually can't cook food. read more

I wish there was a negative star to give this place. I usually don't go here because I rarely have had a good experience, the food is not that great and service is usually awful. I decided to give this place one more try. After 10 min or so our grumpy waitress finally decided to bring us menus and then happily sit her ass down a fold napkins for another 10 min before she could break away from napkin folding and take our order. The food took forever to get to us and with our lunch hour being well over we had to get up to get our ticket to pay since she was in no hurry to check on us. We split the ticket and my order was less than my daughters, after taking our credit cards she seemed to be struggling at the register and when we got our receipts to sign she had charged my daughters card twice for her ticket and claimed my order was the same price even though I saw the receipt (which she did not return after she charged the wrong credit card). She would not let us explain that my order was less and that she didn't even charge my card. She literally walked away and would not correct it. If you want good food AND good service then DO NOT go here!! read more
