I stopped in solo specifically to try the empanadas. This is a small, no-frills establishment with a nice variety to choose from--around eight savory options and another six or so fruit and dessert empanadas.
I tried the chorizo and bean, steak, and pear almond empanadas. The chorizo and bean was somewhat bland and could have used more seasoning or something to give the filling a little more flavor. The steak empanada, on the other hand, was very good and flavorful. Both savory empanadas had excellent crusts.
The pear almond empanada was less successful for me. The crust-to-filling ratio was quite heavy, so most bites were primarily crust. It was also tied closed with butcher's twine for baking, which I unfortunately did not notice until taking my first bite. That was definitely an unexpected surprise and something I think should be made more obvious when served.
Overall, the empanadas were decent, with the steak being the standout. I'm glad I gave the place a try, but I probably wouldn't make a special trip out of my way to return. read more
