First time here while visiting Brown. My rating is 3.5 stars I ordered the tofu scramble and substituted my potato so for the hash. Hash flavor was good. The tofu was bland and needed a touch of salt or seasoning. I personally do not like much salt but the tofu has zero. The tofu scramble was bland but ok- needed additional spice or onions. My daughter ordered the shrimp and grits. A little different from the south but still tasty. Shrimp was not as good. I also ordered 1 pancake. I like to order pancakes at every breakfast place. Unfortunately the pancake was not very good. Much better at other restaurants. On the plus side- service is excellent. My sister, her boyfriend and I went to Julian's for a rainy Sunday brunch. I can't overstate what a great experience it was, since then every time I've been in town we try and work in a visit. The vibe was excellent, super cool and hip (see tv in bathroom pic lol) but cozy too. No commercial chain restaurant vibes at all. The food was fantastic. I ordered a BLT with avocado. They forgot the avocado but the BLT was the best I've ever had so it was easy to look past (and they refunded the upcharge with no fuss.) My sister and her boyfriend loved their food as well. Julian's is a staple of federal hill. You can expect very long lines, but pretty decent food. There are pancakes and French toast aren't necessarily my favorites, but come with real maple syrup, which is very nice. Their portions are pretty big, so I always just get one or two pancakes, with a side of bacon. They have a delicious, hot chocolate, though, with their steamer, they can't get it very hot. That was a little hard, if eating outside, but totally doable. We were looking for hot drinks. Will eat at Julian's again, but probably wouldn't get the scrambled eggs. read more

Discovered this place on a fathers day brunch hunt and glad we did, it sits Broadway adjacent to Atwells ave on Federal Hill in Providence and this area has changed quite a bit. Parking is a little tricky but there is plenty of street parking. I would recommend you get here for the 9am opening if going on a Sunday, this place had a line crowded out front when we got there at 8:30am. The inside of this place is pretty cool, not sure what it used to be, looks like maybe an old soda fountain or diner but cool stuff inside, exposed brick wall and even seats at the bar to eat and outside seating. The menu here is a collection of breakfast and lunch items, omelets, eggs, hash and all sorts of other treats like french toast and pancakes. The staff here is cool, friendly and tries to keep up. Service started a bit slow for us but picked up eventually, not sure if the kitchen was short handed or just operates slow but food took a while to emerge. The breakfast here is decent, homefries have a serious kick, not sure if there is red pepper loaded inside but they were spicy and pretty tasty. The Omelet I ordered was great, loaded with Italian sausage and peppers, really good, side of toast and coffee cake, which was great to start. They have all sorts of specials here and a full bar which is nice. Prices were average, bit higher but for the amount of food you get, worth it. We came here for a late brunch last weekend while we were in the area. Hubby thought Julians was a good pick for us since I'm trending towards the vegetarian side, and saw that they had a lot of vegetarian and vegan items so we decided to give them a try. Brunch is a popular thing just about everywhere in big cities, so we knew we were going to have a wait. When we arrived, we were herded inside, and pressed against many others waiting for seating while we placed an order for beverages. Hubby ordered a bottomless coffee ($3), and I opted to try their vegan irish cream($8). The coffee was good but not great, and the irish cream was super sweet and syrupy to the point of making me feel a little queasy. Once we were able to get a table, we were starving so we ordered promptly. Hubby got the tofu scramble ($11) with upgrading the potatoes to corned beef hash (+$8), and I ordered the shakshuka ($14) with upgraded potatoes to mushroom hash (+$5) as well. Both of us felt like our dishes were really heavy, oily, not well seasoned, and left us feeling like we didn't want to finish anything we ordered. I even tried to order their shhhh sauce ($2) to see if it could liven up our meal, but it was too far to save. Service was fast but cold, bathroom was in disrepair and hard to lock the door because it was off its hinges, and I think they try to do too much with their menu and it is reflected in their hurried and poorly seasoned dishes. My family and I came here while driving through to get to Boston. I was honestly surprised at how few restaurants Providence has in the downtown area that was open on a Thursday afternoon. We chose this restaurant because we have quite the eclectic group of eaters in our family. My dad wanted a burger, mom wanted American food, sister is vegan, and I am trying to eliminate dairy, sugar, and carbs. After looking at the menu we felt this place would work for everyone. We came in and only had to wait about 10 minutes before being sat with no reservation. They let us order drinks at the bar and stand around while we waited. The restaurant itself was super cool and I loved that the bathroom had a tv in it playing hocus pocus! The food was really good and we got A LOT of it. I highly recommend the sweet potato hash! Delicious! We ALL enjoyed our meals and we all left with a ton of leftovers. This restaurant is great for those with multiple food allergies or dietary restrictions. Plus the food is good! read more

I came to Julian's the very 1st time the night I arrived in Providence. That was August 2018. I moved to Providence, sight unseen, from Oregon and my new landlords recommended that my friend and I go to Julian's for dinner. It will always hold a very special place in my heart. Over those past 5 years, I have come to Julian's a variety of times and very recently, another friend and I stopped by for a dinner after attending the LitArts RI grand opening. We wanted to go to a place nearcy, with easy parking, and not a super long wait. And then I saw they were offering tempura asparagus. OMG! Of course, my friend and I enjoyed a plate of that and it was amazing! Our server was a delight to interact with and I even got a picture with the mixologist and the delicious drink special he prepared for me. If you haven't been here yet, go! If you have been here many times, go back! They change out that menu every so often and, like me, you will finally learn that not all hipsters are unfriendly. This place is deserving of the title of one of Providence's best brunches. I got a fried chicken and waffles and a blueberry mimosa, while my friend ordered the vegan St Jamez Benedict and a coffee. The chicken was super flavorful! There was a good amount of spice (not overwhelming), and it was quite tender. I wish I could've ordered this without the waffles; those were very ordinary and flaccid. Still, the chicken was the star. The mimosa was strong! I also didn't realize that there wouldn't be orange juice, so be careful if you stray away from the traditional mimosa. I stole a bit of my friend's plate. The vegan St. Jamez Benedict lived up to the hype that I've seen in other reviews! It tastes quite close to a regular eggs Benedict. The potatoes were good as well. My friend enjoyed the coffee too. It was the three of us and we ordered their Bennys, special hash and omelette. They were all very good according to everyone. My omelette was good but after trying the special hash, I wish I had ordered that instead. Get here early because the place fills up fast. Parking was difficult to find and we had to wait for a bit outside for a table as walk-ins for brunch, but it was well worth the wait. The inside of the restaurant is quirky but inviting, and all of the staff we interacted with were wonderful! It was busy but didn't feel crowded and we got our food pretty quickly. I enjoyed the special tofu scram, but the vegan black bean burger was truly phenomenal! I was lucky my boyfriend shared a few bites with me. I had the Wishing Well, a simple spiked iced coffee. Great brunch drink for coffee lovers looking for something different than a mimosa! The food was outstanding. My boyfriend's chicken and waffles was the best we'd ever tried. The seasoning on the chicken was so good - I'd kill for the recipe! I had the chicken egg wrap. A little bland on it's own, but 10/10 with the sour cream/pico de gallo combo on the side. Didn't know it came with potatoes, so that was a pleasant, perfectly seasoned surprise. Was so excited to eat I forgot a picture until halfway through We shared the special coffee cake as well - so good!!! Here's my problem with Julians: Their breakfast is so fucking delicious that I'm unable to go to any other breakfast place because it doesn't even come close to Julians. I tried to go to a spot in EP and felt like I was cheating on Julians. Every weekend I tell myself I should give it a rest... and then every weekend I eat in or takeout from Julians. Also during the week. *Also* during off hours. :) For me, I still am doing takeout but this combo during the week ensured that I was the only person out on the patio for the majority of my meal. And I can easily see why Julians is so popular--I'm sure on the weekends, there is a wait. And I can see why: I had the Nova Scotia benedict, and it was my first benny I've ever had on Italian toast, and wasn't sure how I would like it... oh man, it was good. So were the home fries. So was the pomegranate mimosa. The server was really attentive and friendly, and I overall had a great experience. I also loved the hugest collection of Pez dispensers I've ever seen in my life in the bathroom, lol. Calling all brunch lovers in Rhode Island!! This is a legit spot for a great brunch gathering!! I arrived at Julians on a Sunday morning 10 minutes after they opened and it was busy at heck! Luckily I was able to grab a seat at the bar to see all of the cooking action behind the scene! I ordered the fried chicken and waffles. To my surprise, the portion size was GINORMOUS!! I mean, size does matter (LOL)!! The chicken was so moist in the inside and crunchy on the outside. The waffles say less! The combination of warm syrup dripping on the waffles and chicken is a one, two combo flavor explosion!! My kind of brunch with a cappuccino to pair it with this dish! On a Saturday evening, my friends and I were looking for a vegan friendly place to catch dinner and Julians came up on Yelp search. Some of the other places we tried had a 1+ hour wait, so we were glad to see Julians had some bar seating available when we got there. We put in a request for a table and within 5-10 minutes, they got one ready for us so we moved from the bar to a table. For food, we shared a bunch of stuff: including their french fries with sweet makhni sauce (kinda like an Indian poutine), the fried beer battered pickles (pretty great!) and I got the Carrot appetizer with soba noodles as my entree. The soba noodle with carrots was definitely the hit for me and a nice light, entree. I'd definitely recommend it! My vegan friend seemed satisfied with her vegan choices as well and service was nice. Decent brunch spot. Was very affordable. Went with my cousin and friend on a Saturday morning at 11am. Line was long and we were told to wait for forty minutes. We got back around 1140 and we were immediately seated I got the buccaneer omelette $13. Portions were big! Two pieces of toast on a bed of potato fries definitely adds a lot of carbs on the plate. The salmon omelette was also decently portioned and so was very filling. I liked the flavors that the smoked salmon came with dill and capers, as that combination can never disappoint with that smokiness and acidity to each omelette bite. Julian's is a great place to grab casual brunch on a weekend. It's pretty standard brunch fair, and they aren't reinventing the wheel when it comes to breakfast.
