I am new to providence but not new to brunch and this was one of my faves in my life!

Tried Julian's for the first time today. It lived up to and exceeded the hype. And the wait wasn't anything close to what I was expecting. I had an egg scramble with curried peas, chickpeas, and bitter greens with greens on the side, and a huge piece of crazy good toasted rye. My friend had scallion and bacon pancakes with a fried egg. My cocktail was soda water, cucumber, lemonade, and ginger beer. Friend had pom juice, pineapple juice, champagne, and peach schnapps!! (I think - am I right on that?). I'm over a week late on this but the memory is still fresh. My boyfriend and I went to Providence for a concert and craved a tasty good boozy brunch. Julians did that and more. There was a short wait (we got there at 11:30am) but they make it a point to get you started with brunch drinks asap. I had the mango mimosa .. yum! He had the traditional. Still yum. I had Reina (Rayna) was our server. Sweet, fast and efficient. Her recommendations were on point. My boyfriend had the chicken with waffles and since Julien is able to split meals I half half of a meatloaf Benedict (the Benny) served on a biscuit and the fried chicken on cornbread Benedict. We ordered a side of banana pancakes. Savory explosion in my mouth. Everything was perfect. The vibe, the people and the food. The manager Brian had a good flow. It was a great start to our day. When you were good, you were great but over the years, I feel like things have changed. The customer service has changed. I don't get a welcoming vibe from many of the staff members. It's like it's an inconvenience that I've decided to put my name down since there is always a wait. I get it, it's busy but being a host/hostess... you would think they would be pleasant since, ya know... it's their job. And, I can't begin to tell you how many times the waiters have forgotten my orders. I'd like to see a stronger team. The prices still remain affordable and I like options on the menu. The food is decent and if somebody from out of town suggested a place, I would feel compelled to sway to them to Julians. A favorite of mine is the Paesano Omelette even though I do like many of the omelettes they have to offer. It just always hits the spot with the tomato and mozzarella. I used to love Julian's homefries, but now I'm just indifferent about them. I do enjoy the house made ketchup. The best I've ever had. I think one of the things that sets Julian's apart from the other brunch spots, are the mimosas and drinks. There are so many to choose from and they're always really delicious and strong. The ambiance is pretty hip. They always have local art on the wall and they have quite the collection of Pez in the bathroom while you watch cartoons sitting on the toilet. Interesting to say the least but it's a cool kids hangout. So many good things about Julian's but to me, it's just lost it's appeal. If I'm going to head to Providence for breakfast, I'm hitting kitchen. Now that's worth the wait. read more

Really lovely place here at Julian's. The energy is really nice and I like the environment. Pretty cool and nice art on the walls. The staff is really nice and friendly. Pretty down to earth people. Service was really cool and I enjoy that a lot. Felt really clean and just like the staff over all was on point and knew what they were doing fairly well. For food we had Crispy Spick Chickpeas to start off, which were really great. We also had Vegetable Pakora to also start off with. For the main dishes we had Roast Lamb Ribs which was my first time having Lamb Ribs. Really delicious actually! Perfect seasoning and super tender. I met my son sunday morning for breakfast and had the most delicious meals with an amazing staff to serve us, set in an eclectic atmosphere. I was amazed at the quality and quantity of the food. We picked Julian's based on its proximity to our Airbnb and weren't aware that it's a bit of an institution. It was late on a Saturday night and we seated right away. Julian's has a great cocktail and beer list and I was happy to see I could get a half pint of beer instead of a whole pint. You can also order a taste. My son and I both ordered the Wimpy Burger and split an order of smoked onion rings with a dipping sauce. The burgers were cooked to order and delicious. I especially appreciated the sturdy bun which held this not-actually-wimpy burger together. The onion rings were very good, as well. Other reviews mention poor service but we had excellent service. The only thing I didn't enjoy about Julian's was how dark it was inside and how loud the hard core music was. I'm probably not the typical demographic for Julian's, though, as I'm middle-aged and not hipster. read more

A few looking for a great brunch spot, this is it in Providence. We've been here a few times, it's always busy, always fresh and always new things on the specials menu to offer. Love the vegan options as well! Today is the tofu scramble with beats corn and roasted pub Llano peppers. It was delicious. My husband ordered the veggie egg wrap and it was also wonderful. The hash today was awesome as usual and everything came out steaming hot and fresh from the kitchen. Great specialty cocktails awesome! Always busy loud restaurant as it is very small. The first time I came to Julian's was for dinner. I wasn't terribly impress so when a friend invited me for brunch I was sceptical. There were 8 of us and the wait was 35-45 minutes which I expect anywhere in Providence on a Sunday morning. I couldn't be more happy that I gave them a second chance. I order the Oakel Bowl and have every other time I've come. It's so savoury and amazing. " Poached eggs, Home fries, carrot-Napa kimchi, house bacon, sriracha hollandaise." It's amazing. A super trendy brunch joint with art on the walls, serves an eccentric array of giant mimosas, hearty and high quality brunch items, AND has pages in their menu devoted to scotch? Sold and sold again. And again. Having been to Providence a few times over, I've consistently heard "Julians this and Julians that, you gotta go to Julians." So what was this hype, and did it live up to the incessant word-of-mouth to give it a go? It did all that and more. First, they have a huge selection of adult beverages. I'm not huge on mimosas but at Julians, there are twists. For example, I had one made with pineapple juice and Midori, which tasted like Hawaii and sour patch apple candies all at once. They are also served in huge portions, and made with moderate quality bubbly that won't leave you with a splitting headache hours later. The portions are sized for a giant's appetite. You might think you're ordering "a half portion benedict" at $7 instead of $14 for a full, but you're actually getting a huge benediction with a heaping side of potatoes. It's a full plate of food for a mere $7. None of this a la carte business. I'd say, without beverages/alcohol, if you're on a budget, you could definitely get out of this place at under $10 a head. Service is great, attentive, fast, and friendly. Despite the heaving line for brunch, which I hear is fairly consistent each weekend, they don't rush you to order or hurry you out of your table like most brunch places. Only issue here is that it's almost unbearably loud. I can take some amount of loud, especially since I adore all those bottomless mimosa brunches in San Francisco with techno music blasting and people dancing on the bar countertops, but this place redefines LOUD. There also isn't a great/prime place to sit because you're either going to be seated in the main dining area where hoards of people are heaving/waiting for a table because it's bitter cold outside, or you're near the kitchen where these tiny wooden saloon doors (unnecessary except for decor, IMO) constantly crack against one another any time anyone goes in and out of them, which is like every 45 seconds. Regardless, it was so superb I will make an effort to return here any time I'm in the area. There's simply too many brunch items to try to steer clear. :) Pro-tip: as of 4/8/17, they are a "dine here for 7% cash back" Yelp biz listing. read more

We found Julians, west of downtown Providence R.I. We're not big fans of vegan food, but the kickback hipster vibe, brought use in!! Our waiter was extremely attentive, man could he rattle off the menu, truly amazing!! My wife's pancakes were large and fluffy, and crispy on the sides, and a extremely soft texture in the middle, out standing!! I had the avocado, mushroom omelet, exactly the way I like it. Both of our coffee cups, never went below half a cup! Plus the lone bathroom decor, takes you back to your childhood, brings back great memories... If you just drive past Julians, without stopping, you'll have missed a true jem of Rhode Island!! read more

Servers and I assume the male was the manager (or owner) but they were all so kind and welcoming. This place is definitely a hole in the wall if you're not from the area. Okay this is THE spot to get brunch on the West side. Seriously. You are missing out if you haven't. Everything from the coffee to the mimosas to the eggs Benedict makes it the perfect, most satisfying brunch experience you can have. The avocado Benedict had a literal WHOLE avocado. I feel like I am always complaining about the stinginess of restaurants when they use avocados in dishes. This alone made me fall in love with the place. Yes, you will probably be waiting 45 minutes to get a table but, guess what? You can order drinks and coffee and sit outside while you wait. It makes the wait totally bearable and fly by. Not only for brunch though, this place is great for some late night food and drinks. I love the open windows and atmosphere when the weather is nice. The service is always awesome, even when they are at full capacity, we never have felt like we have to go out of our way to get the attention of the server. The menu is huge and as a vegetarian, I love that I feel like they are catering to me. Parking is definitely annoying around here but never impossible. All in all, this place is probably my favorite casual restaurant in providence. read more

there was a line for us when we got there for brunch but luckily the host hooked us up, didnt have to wait too long. the portion was huge. the hash doesnt come with the eggs but you can ask to add the eggs and it will be extra charge. the sausage hash was a bit spicy for me but I used the toast to make a sandwich. Great breakfast and brunch spot. If you're in town, be sure to check Julian's out. But plan accordingly as the crowd/line gets longs. We arrived shortly after open and already had a 20min wait. For a party of 4, we were seated relatively quickly. Great mimosa list, lots of creative and fun options. I went for the bloody mary which was solid. Just leaving Julians now from a Saturday brunch. The wait was told to be 25min but the prompt service had us seated within 10. Our server was excellent, friendly, and managed to communicate easily in such a loud and exciting restaurant. Our food was amazing, flavorful, and didn't leave us feeling heavy and gross. The service you receive in this establishment is always AWFUL. I'm in the industry and I always wonder why they don't properly staff their restaurant. It's disappointing because the overall vibe, food and drinks in Julian's is pretty good. I've gone here so many times within the past couple years and never leave happy for the money I'm spending to go there. Must say I don't think I'll be going back. We waited over 20 minutes for our drinks that came after our food and the server had to come back and ask what we ordered to drink because she forgot. Another 5 minutes later we got the drinks. Then our empty plates sat in front of us for 15 minutes and we wanted to order more drinks but I had to go ask one of the servers for the bill cause we decided we wanted to spend our money elsewhere. It has so much potential but service ruins the entire experience every time. If you have endless hours to hang around and don't care about quality customer service then maybe you can handle dining at Julian's. read more

I've been here a few times for brunch and have always had a mediocre experience. Depending on the time of day you go, you can wait anywhere between 5 to 45 minutes. This place is unique- very hipster, loud, and trendy. I've never had a problem with the service as the servers are usually prompt and attentive. I'm not sure if it's my taste palette, but unlike other reviewers, I've never been impressed with the food. I've ordered/tried a few different things off the brunch menu, and I thought everything was just okay. The eggs Benedict is decent. The eggs are placed on thick Italian bread, which I didn't really enjoy. I'm not a fan of the French toast (very thick and dry). The sandwiches are also not bad, but not great. The only thing I really love about this place is the home fries. I can also attest that the portions are HUGE and the prices are pretty standard to comparable brunch spots. Overall, this is a place that I would settle for when my usual breakfast spots are closed. I wouldn't necessarily suggest it as a top choice for breakfast to anyone, but I wouldn't discourage them from trying it. I have a lot of friends who love this place, but for me, the taste of the food just isn't quite there. read more

We took a weekend trip out to Providence and this was the first brunch place that popped up. Going in, I was a little suspect because it seemed more like a dive bar but I was pleasantly surprised. I have been to Julian's at least 10 times over the past year and have had excellent service and superio food of great quality. I was here with my significant other before a concert this past Thursday and let the host know that we would like a table to have drinks and bar food before the show. He seated us in about 5 minutes (they were busy) and came over with water. We sat there neglected by all staff for 20 minutes (I started keeping track after 10 minutes of not receiving any acknowledgment) and I even flagged down the host once and he nodded at me and then continued to go behind the bar to make other people's drinks. I watched him and the Server go to the same tables multiple times and spend frivolous time entertaining them without coming to our table to take our drink orders. After 20 minutes, our server comes over confused asking if we are dining because our table wasn't even set up. I replied yes, and they set it up for us and then grabbed our drinks. We ordered the appetizer special of the night and it was phenomenal, as always. I asked for the check and it was promptly given to us. I wrote on the check explaining why I gave a 10% tip as opposed to my usual 30% due to lack of adequate service, I left and thought that was that. However, after the show I was sitting on the bench outside of Julian's waiting for my ride to pick me up. The same host from earlier comes out, does a double take at me, scowls and throws up his hands as he goes back into Julian's. This is my reason for 3 stars. The host made a mistake in not Setting up our table in the beginning, resulting in delayed service. I was on a time crunch, and I communicated this to him in the very beginning. I even attempted to get your attention to expedite service, which you ignored. Then you unprofessionally scowl at me and act like I was unfair in my explanation of a less than adequate tip.. it was justified given your mistake and I truly do not appreciate your exaggerated emotions towards paying customers. A more appropriate response would have been to ask me to speak with you, or a manager, or the server. All of my expierences have been positive at Julian's except this past one, only because of the host. Our Server was wondeful. I wish both of them had given names so I could properly identify them. Maybe something else to work on in the future is giving tables your name. I appreciate being able to get somebody's attention with a name as opposed to holding my hand out or waving you down. 3/5 stars. Do not like this host with an attitude. I will be returning to Julian's in the future. Hopefully next time he acts more professional. read more

I've lived in this City for years and have always steered clear of Julian's, heading instead to Nick's on Broadway just down the street. Julian's cusine/food is sort of college cafeteria food served by hipsters. Once you grow out of cafeteria food, you can't go back. One positive thing about Julians are the Mimoa's. Beyond that there's not much my own kitchen at home can't do. On my last visit the home fries were ice cold like they just came out of the fridge and were thrown on the grill for about 11 seconds. When I brought how cold the home fries were to our server's attention, she simply said 'not much I can do about that' and walked away. If food, service and courtesy matter to you, save yourself the trouble and just drink the Mimosa. One star for the Mimosa. read more

Omg delicious goodness! From the time you enter you know you are in the right spot anytime the kitchen is called the Office some serious business is going down! The service was great, several employees greeted us and made sure we received service immediately. The coffee was great, a nice French roast. I ordered the chicken and waffles, I ate every piece of that chicken, it was cooked to crispy perfection and seasoned just right. Be sure to add the hot sauce yummy!!! The waffles were good especially with the butter and pure maple syrup. The hubs had the Oakel bowl(sp) or you can ask for the kimchi bowl.
