    Baked Brie

During a road trip, we stopped for dinner in Julian and decided to eat at the Julian Grille. The server seated us right at 5 p.m. at a nice table and the place filled up pretty quickly! It's very popular on weekends. From the menu, our server recommended the hot apple cider, which we ordered an loved. We also got the baked brie as an appetizer and I personally ordered the fettuccini alfredo which I enjoyed. The restaurant is in what looks like a small house and it makes this restaurant feel very cozy.

We accidentally came on a snow day, whole town was busy, but got seated within half an hour, good service. Cutest little place. Excellent food.

Super cute place with plenty of outdoor seating. We brought our dog along with us and they are super dog friendly. Their menu is very simple, a few entrees, a lot of sandwiches, few soups and various drinks. I ordered a roast beef sandwich which had an amazing aus gu sauce which I can't get over. The flavor was on point! We also ordered the fish and chips which was super crispy and tender. The fish was cut into nugget sizes for maximal crisp factor. For drinks, we had some hot spiced apple cider!

Wonderful and tasty dinner! The spaghetti and meatballs were excellent especially the seasoning and flavor. Meatballs were some of the best we've had. Loved the caesar with salmon, very fresh and well prepared. Split pea soup was definitely homemade. Quaint, friendly and reasonably priced.

Chicken Jerusalem - potato and veggies were yummy but the chicken was over cooked.

It's been about 10 years since we last visited the Julian Grille. The atmosphere is lovely and the servers were very nice and efficient. However we found the food to be average. The beef barely soup was pretty good to start. The complimentary bread was nicely served with whipped butter. The special was lamb Osso Buco with pasta and veggies. The presentation was very nice and but the taste and tenderness was average. Not bad, but not great. The chicken Jerusalem was not my favorite. The veggies and red potatoes were yummy but the chicken breast was very over cooked. In fairness, I prefer dark meat and Restaurants tend to overcook chicken breasts so I don't often order it. So maybe others would think it was good. Overall, for the price, we'd like everything to be top notch.

The 3 star is for the bed & breakfast type dining experience. Our server started out ok. But once she found out we were not going to order the most expensive items on the menu, she forgot all about us. Case in point. She never came back to check up on us. We had to yell at her when she was going by, to tend to other guests. I had asked for a refill on my club soda. And I waited and I waited and I waited. Asked her again about my club soda, as she was going by to the kitchen or whatever. And she then asked another server, "Can you get that for them. I noticed that the Caucasian guest had no problem getting top-notch service from her. And it wasn't as if the restaurant was swamped. There were only about 12 people in the entire place. 01/12/2023 16:34:18

This place was cool. Situated in a place that resembles a house, the staff was super friendly and welcoming. The wait was about 20 minutes and you can't wait inside. I should also note that they do not use technology or you phone number. They literally step outside and yell for you a couple of times to see if you're still around. The food was out of this world but it was pretty darn good. To start, my daughter ordered the spaghetti and meatballs which were pretty basic. I will note that it could've used a little more seasoning in every area of that dish. The fish and chips were pretty good as well but not the greatest. The batter was nice and crispy but I feel the fish used inside wasn't the best quality. The house made tartar sauce elevated the fish for sure. The chips (fries) were took notch. There fries will get you addicted to them as they were seasoned just right, hot, and crispy. Now the star of the show here was the BLT... I highly recommend the BLT... this will be one of the best BLT's you've had. The bacon was crispy, the veggies were fresh and the condiments weren't overdone... you must try the BLT. If you're in Julian I'd say check them out.

Stopping by Julian Grille has become a tradition for me and my close good friends, something we've done coincidentally on the same day in December for the last three years. We came here the first year by chance because the other restaurants we wanted to try were either closed or too busy. We had to sit outside in the cold because the inside was packed here too, but this was around 2pm so the sun was still relatively high. We didn't eat anything but we each tried a couple drinks and MAN I can't tell you how good each of them were. Not only do they have a great menu with some seasonal offerings, but each drink had a flavor profile that warms the soul and could probably cheer up Ebenezer Scrooge. I think at this point I've tried all of their seasonal cocktails (some pictures are attached), and I've even brought my parents here on a separate occasion. I've tried a few of their food items, which are decent but not much more than typical diner items (at a bit higher prices). The service is also akin to those at diners so "take it or leave it." For as long as Julian Grille is open and as long as I visit Julian, I will return every time!

I wanted to try everything, but we opt on getting a few dishes to share. Our son ordered the filet mignon and they were able to substitute mashed potatoes for fries. Amazing!! The mac & brisket appetizer appeared to be the highlight and specialty and we just had to order it. Every bite was cheeesy and delicious with the brisket very moist. We couldn't go without ordering the Brussels sprouts and it had a twist with ponzu sauce and pineapple. Definitely a different take and I thoroughly enjoyed the taste. Every bite was foodgasmic and I highly recommend!!! I knew coming here that some Yelpers have experienced wavering in quality, so glad we did not experience that at all. As of the date that we came, we understood that the restaurant had been listed for sale, not sure if Jeremy sold it yet or not. I hope not, we plan on coming back this summer!

We stumbled in here by accident because the bbq beer place nextdoor was busy and we were in a hurry and said this Rong-place makes ribs. What a mistake, and they don't even serve beer. We spent $60 on garbage food. The oven-cooked fall-of-the-bones pork ribs were sad, gray, tasteless, and slathered with their "Bumsteer" sauce - a sad attempt to make homemade bbq sauce out of cheap ketchup and vinegar. The sides included a dried out cornbread muffin, sour creamy coleslaw, and homemade baked beans that were basically canned beans in ketchup. Basically inedible. I've seen enough Gordon Ramsey to know this restaurant does not have an actual cook with any culinary experience whatsoever. They should be ashamed selling such garbage (especially with no beer to try to wash it down). I hate wasting $ on garbage. Do yourself a favor and learn from our sad lesson. Bumsteer sauce? I even brought friends who had never been here before, thinking it could become one of our regular stops when we're out hitting the trails. Instead, it left a bad taste in everyone's mouth... and not just from the food. Waitress: Where do I even start. She claimed she was hard of hearing--but her attitude spoke loud and clear. Tossing menus on the table, aggressively slamming salsa down, and getting snarky over being off because our party count was off by one person. Seriously? It took two seconds to adjust the table, but apparently that was just too much. Yes, she technically did her job... but with such a cold, unwelcoming, and rigid attitude that it made the whole experience uncomfortable. What really stood out? We were there first and ready to order, yet she chose to take care of every smaller table that came in after us. No communication, no "I'll be right with you," nothing. Just ignored. Basic courtesy clearly isn't part of the service here. And trust me--I used to be a waitress. I handled large parties all the time and actually communicated with my tables. It's not that hard. Honestly, if gratuity hadn't already been forced onto the bill, she would've gotten $0. The only pleasant person we encountered was the busser--quick, friendly, and actually seemed like he wanted to be there. Maybe swap their roles, because he outperformed her by a mile. Food: Let's talk about the food... if that's what we're calling it. Everything came out cold. Not "warm-ish," not "could be hotter"... just straight up cold. It felt like our plates were sitting under a heat lamp for way too long before making it to the table. One "white" friend asked to have her meal fixed--fine, no problem. But when another "Hispanic" friend asked the same thing? Suddenly there was attitude, menu slamming, and mumbling under her breath. So... what exactly was the difference? Why the inconsistency and hostility? If the kitchen is that backed up, maybe management should step in and help instead of letting food die in the window. Just a thought. Final Thoughts: This place had potential... but that waitress single-handedly ruined it. We'll be taking our group (and our money) elsewhere--Dudley's Bakery is looking like a much better option moving forward. I usually bring large groups out here, so this isn't a small loss. Unfortunately, if this is the level of service they're okay with, this place isn't going to improve anytime soon. At this point, it's less "Farmhouse charm" and more "junky barn energy."
