We came here because all the other ideal restaurants have one hour wait time, this place did not have any wait; however, we waited for one hour for our food, which is ridiculously long for a restaurant that is not even full at the time. The server was accommodating but did not notice our wait until 45min later, she offered salad which was a nice gesture. The potpie was on the salty side, the breading was good, flaky dough. The skillet breakfast item has a nice puff pastry, but felt a little empty. I would hope that they would improve their management, as others around us were waiting for a long while, too. The restaurant had a gift shop in the front and back of it. There was a lot to look at while we were waiting, which helped kill some time.

We took a trip to Julian to buy pies (that'll be another review). Since we were there we decided to get lunch. Our first choice had a wait so we came to the Rongbranch. We were seated right away and given menus. We had plenty of time to look at the menu because it took a while for the server to come over. She was very nice. We had a long wait to get our food and when it came only three of our four orders came out. There was no explanation. It took at least five minutes for the missing meal to come out. Our server apologized for the wait. By then, our sons were almost done eating. Food was good, but not great. I had a Pattie Melt with Fries. It was a little dry but not bad. The place is cute and cozy with fun signs on the walls. There were some interesting souvenirs for sale near the front. Everyone was friendly and they were quick with refills. Not sure if we'll go back again.

This place was a disappointment. One of the first times, I did not look at the reviews first. The ambience is nice and toasty. Service is polite. They also have a large assortment of things to buy inside. Now the food was not to the standards of the Julian community. The steak had no flavor. The pulled pork tasted as if it was boiled. The bbq sauce on it was on the sweet side. The baked beans had a strong ketchup taste. The chicken pot pie was filled with gravy. More gravy than chicken or mixed vegetables. Now the winner, was the kids waffle. It's had a crispy outside and a soft inside. For what you get. The price is too much. I will not revisit.

Restaurant and shop all in one. Our host was a sweet young gentleman. The restaurant seemed family owned. The service and people were great. The low star rating was the food. From what we ordered was very basic diner food. I was surprised that the Country Fried Steak was an actual steak. I never had it prepared like that before.

We came out for the tree lighting during Christmas time. The food was bland, no seasoning on anything. The kids cheeseburgers were burnt and they were out of everything.

Should have been a warning sign that there was no line in the heart of Julian. The atmosphere was nice and plenty of seating. Ordered the chicken sandwich with a side of ranch. What arrived looked like the precooked chicken pieces from the frozen food section and the fries were lukewarm and tasted freezer burned. Additionally the side of ranch tasted like it was spoiled. The cowboy skillet was a very runny and tasteless gravy and would have thought the pasty topping would've been baked into the skillet, instead what it featured is just a pasty thrown on top of the sausage and gravy.

We wanted to check out their gift shop, the staff were very welcoming when we entered the restaurant/gift shop. It was a very cute place, they have a gift shop when you first enter and one in the back of the restaurant. They have a lot of random stuff for sale and a counter full of different homemade fudge. They looked so good.

We were originally planning to eat somewhere else but the line was too long. Upon walking in, there is a small candy store which leads to the restaurant. It was very dark and it almost felt like a dungeon. The omelet was very bland and I thought it was strange for the meal to not come with toast or potatoes. I had to order a la carte which was very inconvenient. The avocado toast was dry and had too much lemon pepper on it. Very hard to eat. The only reason I am giving 2 stars is because the servers and waitresses were very kind. They gave our daughter things to color with also. I don't see myself coming back for the food.

There is outdoor and indoor seating, but at the time we came it appeared that the outdoor was reserved for an event. We happily sat inside! Having met Jeremy's parents earlier in the day who also recommended his restaurant, and they were just lovely, we had hoped to possibly meet Jeremy too. I wanted to try everything, but we opt on getting a few dishes to share. Our son ordered the filet mignon and they were able to substitute mashed potatoes for fries. Amazing!! The mac & brisket appetizer appeared to be the highlight and specialty and we just had to order it. Every bite was cheeesy and delicious with the brisket very moist. We couldn't go without ordering the Brussels sprouts and it had a twist with ponzu sauce and pineapple. Definitely a different take and I thoroughly enjoyed the taste. Every bite was foodgasmic and I highly recommend!!! I knew coming here that some Yelpers have experienced wavering in quality, so glad we did not experience that at all. This is a tough one. This place does good food. And beer. But I went in asking about their…read moreprotocols for gluten allergies. There are limited dinner options in Julian. And with a kid with celiac, who can get sick for days if a crumb of bread is digested, options are even more limited. We were stoked when the woman at the register pointed out that the bbq and salads were mostly GF (without croutons). And while she did mention there's a chance of cross-contamination with the gluten free pizza, as they make pizzas and there's flour around, she mentioned they change gloves and use clean utensils and have had many celiac folks eat there without issue. Bit we went instead for the most basic and least risky options. Half smoked chicken and a wedge salad. Then I saw the house made pickles. My kid loves pickles. I asked if they were GF. Any seasoning or anything that might contain gluten? She asked the cook and he said no. Gluten free. Which makes sense. They're pickles. Took the order back to the house and the kid went straight for the pickles. I don't have the time to explain how awesome it is when this kid, who's whole outlook on food has been shattered because of the celiac, can have some pickles and not have to think about getting sick. But here we are. From pure joy to anxiety and sadness in two seconds flat. I'm posting this not to bag on this establishment or the people that work there. We know it's a kitchen that serves food and drinks containing gluten. But when I've asked about protocols and tried to do my best to get the info, as well as making it clear that we are trying to be very careful about gluten as it's an allergy, not a preference, and then being reassured that the pickles and the bbq is as safe as they can make it, I was pretty bummed to find a whole freakin crouton in the middle of the container of pickles. Half of which the kid had already happily devoured. We The restaurant industry is not set up for people with food allergies. We know this. We try our best to navigate it by asking questions and getting as much info as possible. There are places that don't even know what celiac is. So we leave. There are places that are extremely knowledgeable about it from front of house to the chef. Those places we can put more trust in. It's never 100%. But fortunately we've had more good experiences than bad with restaurants that take it seriously. I'm sure this was a mistake. Not intentional. Pickles too close to the croutons. I can see how it can happen. All I'm asking is to be better about it. Be aware. Especially when I've asked repeatedly if it's all good and the answer given is yes. Or just tell me it's not safe to eat there for people with celiac and we can be on our way. A lot of restaurants are becoming more aware and offering more GF options. This is great. Lots of people eat gluten free to avoid carbs or because of gluten sensitivity. Celiac is another level. And a painful one at that. We appreciate and love going to eat food at places that take it seriously. Hoping for more of those places in the future. Julian Beer Co. we love you, but take note. Croutons don't belong in your pickles.

I even brought friends who had never been here before, thinking it could become one of our regular stops when we're out hitting the trails. Instead, it left a bad taste in everyone's mouth... and not just from the food. Waitress: Where do I even start. She claimed she was hard of hearing--but her attitude spoke loud and clear. Tossing menus on the table, aggressively slamming salsa down, and getting snarky over being off because our party count was off by one person. Seriously? It took two seconds to adjust the table, but apparently that was just too much. Yes, she technically did her job... but with such a cold, unwelcoming, and rigid attitude that it made the whole experience uncomfortable. What really stood out? We were there first and ready to order, yet she chose to take care of every smaller table that came in after us. No communication, no "I'll be right with you," nothing. Just ignored. Basic courtesy clearly isn't part of the service here. And trust me--I used to be a waitress. I handled large parties all the time and actually communicated with my tables. It's not that hard. Honestly, if gratuity hadn't already been forced onto the bill, she would've gotten $0. The only pleasant person we encountered was the busser--quick, friendly, and actually seemed like he wanted to be there. Maybe swap their roles, because he outperformed her by a mile. Food: Let's talk about the food... if that's what we're calling it. Everything came out cold. Not "warm-ish," not "could be hotter"... just straight up cold. It felt like our plates were sitting under a heat lamp for way too long before making it to the table. One "white" friend asked to have her meal fixed--fine, no problem. But when another "Hispanic" friend asked the same thing? Suddenly there was attitude, menu slamming, and mumbling under her breath. So... what exactly was the difference? Why the inconsistency and hostility? If the kitchen is that backed up, maybe management should step in and help instead of letting food die in the window. Just a thought. Final Thoughts: This place had potential... but that waitress single-handedly ruined it. We'll be taking our group (and our money) elsewhere--Dudley's Bakery is looking like a much better option moving forward. I usually bring large groups out here, so this isn't a small loss. Unfortunately, if this is the level of service they're okay with, this place isn't going to improve anytime soon. At this point, it's less "Farmhouse charm" and more "junky barn energy."
