I generally don't review stores, but for this lovely Christmas shop in Solvang, I'll happily make an exception. It's got an amazing selection of Christmas and Holiday items beautifully laid out that come from all over the world. Yes, there is a large selection of Danish items, but if you love a certain type of Christmas item - I would be shocked if they didn't have it. What makes this place special is the amazing customer service - incredibly warm, inviting, friendly and helpful without being overbearing. They also manage to stay themed in what they say without coming across as cheesy. Very glad we stopped in! read more

Christmas time tends to bring out the child in most of us, Jule hus is the place to go to relive that magic the entire year through, Decorated Christmas trees, garland, tinsel, and scents of the winter season dance throughout the shop, trees are decorated by theme. Baby's first Christmas, Armed Services, Firefighters, and so on... they have wine lover ornaments, foodie ornaments, and then of course the more traditional religious ornaments, ah and advent calendars, I almost got one for myself. The lighting is dim, and the shop is a little warm, (at least it was that day) it's a quiet store, so just take your time and enjoy browsing the merchandise. If you enjoy a heavy customer service store, this isn't it, we were not greeted when we arrived, the two workers looked to be very deep in conversation,and while I did not need help, I did notice the lack of acknowledgement and they never broke the conversation in the twenty minutes I was in the store, and in fact continued on as I left. I have a feeling that this store might get overlooked, depending on the time of year and tourist season, but it would be a great place to go if you want a special ornament for someone. read more

My obsession with Christmas ornaments leads me back to this place every time I'm in the area and I always seem to make a unique find. Besides the more traditional stuff, they also have a stellar selection of everything else imaginable for your tree. Best of all, their prices run the gamut so you're bound to find something in your price range. I'd definitely spend double the amount of time in here if it weren't for the husband's bored grumblings. Definitely a girl thing. The ladies who work here are friendly and take their shop pretty seriously. I would not recommend this place for small children - things are a little tight in here and "breakables" have the tendency to break if mishandled by little hands. read more

High quality crafts but extremely rude staff. Particular two older ladies working the evening shift on Wednesday 12/14. One lady was carrying a conversation with a customer for over 5 minutes. I was waiting to purchase 4 ornaments and the second lady did not even offer help. Maybe racist? I set my ornaments aside on the counter , and she said "not there. They won't fit thru the plastic barrier". I had my 5YO so I was not going to crest a scene. Maybe hire some actual employees interested in helping customers or train them in customer service. read more

Sorry to be Scrooge. This place literally looks like a Danish Santa Clause ate one too many cookies and vomited in California. Okay, okay, I'm sure this has probably one of the best year round selections in ornaments, Christmas decorations, and other holiday flair of really any place in the country. Prices are pretty good considering you don't have to pay shipping. They wrap all if your treasures up safely & remove the price tags for you. Christmas all year round!! If Christmas is one of your favorite holidays, then this store is a must-stop if you're in Solvang! Okay, even if it's not your favorite, you still have to check it out! It'll make you happy! :) This place is like a holiday time travel. You couldn't help but smile as you wander through the store. They have cute Christmas decorations! There is one wall with only nutcrackers! i just love saying 'nutcrackers'! But of course they have everything from xmas decorations, to ornaments, to stocking stuffers, and numbers of nativity scene! This place is very well-lit with christmas lights and the different themed-christmas tree can bring a smile to anyone's face! The only complained I have is, not much room for a stroller (or a wheelchair for that matter). I had my son with me in an umbrella stroller, and I was afraid of knocking everything off the shelves and my son grabbing everything. So we had to leave the stroller outside and just had to carry him in. But, if you are in the area, definitely check it out! You won't regret it! :) read more

I LOVE THIS STORE! I love Christmas decorations and this place gets me excited for December. I love it! They have ornaments from all over, including some of the nostalgic and odd ornaments, like the pickle and carrot ornaments. The staff is wonderful, cheerful and just down-right adorable. There are ornaments for all budgets, from under a dollar, to nearly a hundred bucks. Whatever theme(s) you have in your Christmas decor, you are bound to find a new addition here. My favorite ornament from my last visit is the "Mom's Favorite Middle Child" ornament, which I made my mom buy for me! A cute little story about this place...my two great aunts, Mary Margaret and Rose, were a crazy pair. Probably about 20 or 30 years ago, they went to this store and on their way out saw a display of "Grab Bags", where you buy them without knowing what was inside. They went in halves and purchased one. When they got home, they opened the package to find the most hideous chili pepper ornament ever. Rose insisted that Mary Margaret keep it. So, for Christmas that year, Mary Margaret wrapped it up in this huge elaborate package and gifted it back to Rose. It was tossed back and forth for years, each time in a unique and funny way, until finally it was in Rose's possession. Rose passed away some years ago. She got the last laugh at the reading of her will. When it came time to read what Rose left to Mary Margaret, she left her none other than the ugly chili pepper! Bunch o' nuts! Solvang has quite a few "must visit" places that I recommend any and all visitors to explore. Jule hus is right there near the top! Its a Christmas store...in a Danish-style village...and its open all year long!!! How can you not wanna pay a visit even in the middle of Summer? I mean...really?! This is a lovely, beautiful place. You walk in and you're transported to the holiday season, and really...you can't help but smile and wander through their displays and offering, looking all around in wonder. You can find all kinds of European, "old world" ornaments and decorations for your home or office here. Anything and everything for trees, hearths, mantels or wherever you like to decorate during the holidays is here. Some of it with the "Solvang" logo on it...and much of it without. The workers here are delightful, and some still have Danish accents! Its quaint in a heartwarming way. The wife and I try to pick up and item or two from here whenever we stop bye to put on our Christmas tree, something to represent Solvang...a town we've fallen in love with. The prices are fairly reasonable for such a touristy spot...and every budget can find something here. Seriously.. when you're in the area...do stop by. You'll be happy you did! Oh. My. Goodness. It's like a museum, only you can actually buy the pieces....if you're a millionaire, maybe. Right at the entrance was an antique grandfather clock "on sale" for $65,000! So many cool clocks, music boxes, furniture, and jewelry. Oh, the jewelry. I was in love. It's a mix of antiques and estate pieces, and I was in love with a large art deco ring. For all the fanciness of this store, the sales clerk was not pretentious and very kind. I didn't ask for help, but she saw me admiring a particular ring and she took it out of the case for me. I wanted it so badly and she even offered layaway for me (and what stores do that anymore? Very cool). The ring, by the way, cost $2800, so obviously I wasn't going to splurge on an art deco style cocktail ring. Anyway, it instilled enormous envy at those who can afford to purchase ANYTHING there, but I loved my visit, regardless!!! read more

I had been wanting to bring my son's to this store for 3 years. Every year we get a new ornament and I thought this would be a fun experience for my 10 year old and my 22 year old autistic son. We spent awhile deciding on our choices and that was fun. But the mood of the store changed when I asked a clerk for assistance in finding an angel ornament. She seemed put out that I didn't find them myself. I let it go figuring if I was in my 80's and having to wearing a Heidi's costume I would be in a pissy mood too. However when my autistic son went to pay for his own ornament the same lady decided to grill him on national parks. Sounds strange, well it was. My son just stood there trying to understand the clerk who put my son on the spot about now knowing the national parks in Utah. She then went on and on about googling the parks because he should knows the parks. I finally intervened and had the boys go outside to wait for me to finish the transaction. I tried to explain to the clerk my son's condition and that is why he wasn't responding to her questions or understood completely what she was asking but she would not stop talking to hear what I had to say. Maybe out of boredom she wanted to have someone hear her talk...I don't know but I quickly got out of there and unfortunately this left a weird "taste" in our mouth regarding this store. It's Christmas everyday here and it was great until we walked in with my 3 yr old nephew. Christmas ornaments + 3 year old boy = BAD COMBO! They have nice things and it's a great place to buy gifts but I really hate getting a Christmas ornament as a gift cause you can only enjoy it for one more day before it ends up in the garage so if you're nice, buy something from here in Sept or Oct and send it to grandma when she'll actually have a chance to enjoy it. I have always loved this store before, but I was disappointed with their inventory, today. Maybe Covid has caused them to have little choices. But maybe they need to get a designer in their store. The entrance and decorative garland on the building front looked old and faded. Today, I was especially looking for quality garland for my fireplace mantel, but found none in the store. Not even candles in the store. The string lights to choose from looked dated and also very few to choose from. If I was in the market for a Nutcracker or Nativity set, I may have been satisfied and made a purchase, but that wasn't my objective, today. I hope to see the store return to its glory. read more
