Heavenly! My friend and I shared the mango, watermelon, and strawberry iced goodness (it's pretty large). In the huge bowl there was an inch of perfectly crushed ice, chopped mango, strawberries, and balls of mellon covered in condensed milk and topped with a scoop of strawberry ice cream. Wow! What a dessert! We devoured it in about 8 minutes. I've never experienced so many textures and flavors going on in my mouth at the same time. Everyone I know is a fan of this place, and it's always packed on the weekends. Juice Box offers an extensive fruit drink menu, and every drink I've had there is delicious and good for you! I recommend the mango smoothie, as well as any freshly-made juice. This place is surprisingly simple yet the flavors are simply perfect. They specialize in shaved ice with a twist. It's a combination of shaved ice, sweet condensed milk, and your choice of fruit. We came from eating dim sum and it was packed with people doing the same. I was going to order one for myself but my friend stopped me and I'm glad she did because one is more than enough for 3-4 people. All in all its a great place to come on the weekends although it does get pretty packed during the lunch rush but clears out fairly quickly. Came here twice while i was in H-Tine. It's a popular place, lot's of people here. The one thing i didn't like was that it was cash only. You walk inside and it's a typical chinese drink shop setup. I ordered the avocado smoothie the first time and i liked the fact that they only needed 4 ingredients for the smoothie. They only used a whole avocado, ice, simple syrup, and milk. The problem was they really didn't put enough simple syrup. The smoothie ended up being a little unsweet, but hey it's avocado, i still enjoyed it. On the second trip, a group of friends and I got the famous shaved ice bowls. Mango and Banana Split. This is where juice box gets it's stars. The ice is shaved fine, not coarse which means the ice isn't crunchy. It melts in your mouth. The mango shaved ice is has a bed of shaved ice with some milk poured over it. Then mango is topped all over the ice with condensed milk. The final touch is a nice scoop of vanilla ice cream. Everything worked extremely well and was perfect for spring. The banana split had the same concept except it was chocolate syrup, strawberry and banana pieces, and a scoop of chocolate ice cream. Others in my normal Houston entrouage seem to love this place, bot sure I'm too big a fan. While I prefer either a really dense peach/strawberry/banana bubble tea from down the way (Teahouse), I usually get outvoted for ice cream and fruit from this place. The tea I get really isn't as dense or flavorful as I'd like, plus they don't offer the key ingredient to my preferred concoction (peach or banana...I forget which one...maybe it was both). I used to absolutely love this place, but the last couple visits they seem to have lost a step. For one thing the price went up...and the fruit doesn't seem as fresh...and the last one we got there was drowned (absolutely drowned) in condensed milk. We've also tried their hot deserts, no bueno. Who doesn't love things smothered in condensed milk? Juicebox is known for their shaved ice topped with assorted fruit of your choice, a scoop of ice cream and then topped with condensed milk. They've lost a star on inconsistency with the amount of condensed milk they put--I guess some people are more heavy handed than others and it can be a bit overwhelming. A good idea is to get the condensed milk on the side so you can control the amount yourself. Overall, Juicebox is a great, safe bet for a fast and cheap dessert. read more

Juice box. Noms. I love the strawberry and mango shaved ice, and while it sounds like a weird concept -- ice with ice cream and condensed milk? what? -- it really is delicious. I was quickly converted after a friend took me to the exotic neighborhood of Chinatown and convinced me to try it. My one pet peeve with JB is the cash only policy. At this point in the tech age, there's really no excuse for not accepting credit cards, especially with iPhone and iPad based programs for doing just that. If you have an issue with the fees, pass it along to the consumer; I'm totally okay with paying an extra $0.50 to avoid the hassle of going down the street to an ATM and paying $2.50 to get cash. Nevertheless, it's really tasty and if I'm in the mood for it, I'll suck it up. But still, guys. Get with the times. read more

With the openings of more shaved ice places on the street, the crowd isn't as saturated anymore, but it's still thriving! Juice Box is your answer to your sweet tooth- without making you feel too guilty about it. They serve fresh fruit juices, smoothies, fruit shaved ice, and traditional Asian hot/cold desserts. Everything is very light and lightly sweet, and delicious. My recent trip here consisted of a fruit shaved ice with watermelon, strawberry, and mango. They take finely shaved ice , top it with fruit and fruit syrup, top it with your choice of ice cream (there are a lot of choices!) and drizzle the whole thing in condensed milk. Yum! The ice isn't as finely shaved as I would have liked, but it made for a good medium for all the sweet toppings. A refreshing treat for a summer day. Ordered the regular mixed fruits to share with my fiancé and it was the perfect size to overstuff us after lunch; had to throw some of it away which hurt me deeply *tears.* Definitely not greedy on the fruits! I absolutely love this place. I've never been one for deserts but this really tales the cake for me. There isn't a place like this in New Orleans, the city I live in. I was in Houston last month in March for an Anime convention and we all went to Juice Box literally everyday we were there including one more time on the day we left. We became addicted. The item on the menu we ordered the most was the Thai Ice. It's basically shaved ice, topped with condensed milk, your choice of an assortment of 3-5 fruits, and a scoop of ice cream of your choice! They offer other sweets but the Thai ice was what I kept ordering because it's not available in my area. I can get boba tea, milk tea, mochi ice cream, and stuff like that at a handful of establishments in the area but to my knowledge the Thai shaved ice hasn't made its way down to Nola. The fruit is always fresh and the selection is humongous. Although they're expensive, the fruits are always fresh and nothing is powder. I really like their mango fruit tea ($5 after tax), mango milk, and durian avocado mango milk ($6 after tax). I usually order the mango fruit tea because it's refreshing to have, and I get to munch on mango pieces after I'm done. The durian avocado mango milk tastes mostly like durian, hardly any avocado, and like no mango at all. I might be tracked down and in risk of getting shot after this review, but I just wasn't all that impressed... It was however hilarious bringing my out of town friend here to experience China Town. She was just absolutely amused how many shops there were and how busy it was. We were there on a Saturday night. It looked jammed packed from looking in, so we thought this place must be really awesome. Walked in, and was absolutely overwhelmed with all of the options. Luckily I spotted a printed flyer on the counter that said "mixed fruits shaved ice" So we just ordered that. We found a spot at the very end of the bar and shortly the shaved ice came out. A pretty big bowl that could be shared with two people topped with strawberries, melon, pineapple, cantelope... annndd there was probably more but you get the gist. Topped off with condensed milk and a scoop of strawberry ice cream. One side had a lot more condensed milk than the other. The texture was too chewy for me. I guess because I've had Texas Blizzard Ice I thought it would at least be comparable, but to my dismay it wasn't . My friend however did enjoy it, and that's all that really mattered. Really really really like this place especially when i am visiting during the super hot summers of Texas. I heard their fruit juices are all really good although I havent tried them before. The thing i always get is their mango shaved ice. A big bowl of ice with fresh delicious mangos with a scoop of icecream on top with condensed milk. It is the best tasting ice that I've had in the states. My mom is also obsessed with the ice haha.
