Juice is juice except when you're at the juice caboose. Plenty of selections of smoothies and other victuals for an early rise or leisurely lunch. Came here today. This would have been a 5/5 if the bananas they blended the pitaya with weren't so OVERRIPE! The whole smoothie bowl just tasted and smelled like overripe banana, additionally the ones they gave me with it were overripe as you can tell. Really disappointed that they used old fruit. This is a quaint little shop with outdoor patio eating. The sandwiches were so fresh. I had the Albacore tuna sandwich. I love a well made sandwich and this was definitely one. I also had the Kapha Pacifier - ginger, beets, carrot, and celery. I loved it! I could eat there daily. I felt good eating there and will go back again and again. Note, if you want your drinks cold, let them know you want ice. Really good, clean fresh food and good customer service! read more

They have some tasty items but it's so wasteful and they refuse to consider single use plastic alternatives. It would be great if they offered a stainless steel container for their bowls and smoothies where customers could pay a deposit to take them home and return them. read more

I've been coming to the La Jolla Juice Kaboose for many years and really appreciate the fresh food and staff. I visit once to twice a week. In general, you hire very friendly individuals. I am leaving this review regrettably because the weekend manager (a gal with dark hair) was just so incredibly rude. I have seen her act this way with other customers in the past and just figured she was having a difficult day, but having experienced her poor attitude multiple times I wanted to leave a note and make sure the ownership understands that they can do better. It's a great location and you have an excellent menu but the Manager/Supervisor really makes it unfriendly to visit. I appreciate you listening. read more

I've been dealing with some tummy issues and this place has some very good juices (orange, lemon, ginger, garlic, and mint) and lots of shots - ginger and wheatgrass. Very healing and the man (Roman) who works here is super helpful and nice. The best juice bar I've ever been to. read more

I got the Nutty Dragon. The worker was approachable and nice. The price is great for the location and the size. I appreciated that the bowl was made fresh The bowl itself was sub-standard. The pitaya was quite underwhelming and the taste was not great. However, the main reason for my low rating is due to a crawling bug in my bowl that I spotted in my bowl mid-eating. So many of my college acai bowls were here at Juice Kaboose. It was the first acai place in downtown La Jolla, and still stands strong many years later. I always get their acai bowls, and have tried the pitaya ones too. The pitaya is a bit runny, which is actually what their bowls base tends to lean towards. I like firmer bowls, but Juice Kaboose always has friendly and efficient service and lots of fresh fruit, which is a big plus. They haven't upcharged their bowls in the last few years, so that's a kind gesture. Especially in pricey LJ, they could easily increase the prices...but they make it affordable for students and acai lovers who don't have that much to spend. I also love that their granola is nut-free, which is a big deal for those with nut allergies. They also have add-on toppings like coco flakes and more seeds and nutrient-rich things. I've heard good things about the sandwiches and other items they sell. They also are in an area that has outdoor seating, which is shared with the small plaza of other shops nearby. I always make it a point to come back to Juice Kaboose if I'm in the LJ area...but my favorite acai spots are in PB and OB for the icier acai texture. read more

After we left, my stomach was very upset, and I ended up having to make an emergency stop at the La Jolla Shores bathrooms before heading home. Our waiter was also a little slow. It took quite a while for our water to give us water after a long walk on the beach and then our bill took forever as well. On top of that, the waiter commented "Impressive" because I had finished my entire plate. I had been fasting for 24 hours, but regardless, I don't think commenting on how much a customer eats is really appropriate. It was just a little strange. Anyway, just a heads-up. I'm sure I'll come back, and hopefully everything will be back to normal and great as usual!

This was one of the first juice/smoothie places to open up in La Jolla. Since then, many others have opened up and the competition is overwhelming now. We now have too many to choose from. I really enjoy his place because the produce is so fresh and the sandwiches are excellent. The staff is great also. Yelp Now that I have been yelping for a while, I realize what a cool application this really is. Yelp has become my "go to" site whenever I go to a new city around the world. I've also been able to communicate with yelp friends from around the world whenever I travel to a new city in order to get advice of where to eat and also for business information. Yelp is also a great way to keep track of your past experiences and it has become a digital record of where I have been and how much I enjoyed those locations. Yelp is also a really great place to connect with people in your own town to see what is going on and what is fun and which restaurants are new and exciting. Try it, you may very well enjoy becoming a yelper also. read more

As a family we have been trying to support locals, until today. My daughter has always brought her friends to frequent here, and today after walking downtown LAJOLLa actually decided she was hot and bought a smoothie at Jamba Juice. BUT both girls decided to go to Juice kaboose for something to eat. When my daughter walked in with her Jamba Juice and after her friend placed her food/drink order the owner told my daughter she was "offensive" and that she needed to "throw her smoothie out if she wanted to stay in the store or go outside and drink it". My daughter who is 12 didn't know what to do and went outside so as not to make the owner mad, but then threw her entire Jamba Juice away so she could come back in and be with her friend who was waiting for her food to be ready. My daughter can go back if she wishes, but I will not spend another nickel there for the "rude"ness factor. read more

EVERYTHING on the JUICE KABOOSE menu is absolutely delicious. Whatever you need- a post-workout smoothie, a juice to fight a hangover, a quick snack, or a healthy meal- JUICE KABOOSE has it. Plus the staff at the JUICE KABOOSE are amazing! So helpful and always quick to crack a joke. Plus, your order is ready faster than you can find the spoons and straws. My favorite things on the menu are the acai bowls. Their acai is rich and creamy. it actually tastes like acai and not like ice. Acai bowl is good, which is why its so highly recommended on yelp. Juice Kaboose is a great place to grab a quick bite to go, and you can feel healthy while eating it too. The reason I give a 3 stars because as good as the acai bowl was, it didn't really scream GREAT for me. Especially since my buddies drag me to other healthy juice bars joint in LA that serve GREAT, and I mean GREAT acai bowls. On a recent visit to La Jolla we stopped by the juice kaboose on fay avenue. We were waiting for a table for the restaurant next door (Prepkitchen) and wanted some fresh juice to make the waiting feel a little shorter. I only got fresh carrot juice, but their blended juices and smoothies looked amazing. While I was there I must have seen about 10 of their acai bowls ordered; they look amazing. I will defniitely be trying one of those soon. read more

This place is amazing. I started coming here about a month ago and am now hooked. I bring my dog here and everyone is super friendly. I pretty much get the same thing every time which is the iron man bowl with extra peanut butter. soooo good. if you're into acai bowl then I'd highly suggest you try this place out. Unfortunately, I had higher hopes for Juice Kaboose. I came in after a workout and got the Iron Man acai bowl. It was completely liquified like a smoothie that sat out for an hour. When I tried to explain this to the girl behind the counter, she told me that she couldn't take it back because they were too busy and that that was how they were "supposed to be." One would think by the limited menu that they were focused on keeping the choices low and really working on making the best of what little they offered. But NO...our "smoothies" were the worst we have experienced. What they should do is drive on down to Lean n Green in La Jolla and learn a little bit about 1) ingredients 2)process 3) choices ... By far the best acai bowl I've ever had. You get more than what you pay for and the prices are very affordable. I don't even bother going anywhere else in San Diego anymore because there is just no comparison. They don't throw in ice or juices into the acai to save money and the food is consistently awesome. The gratis addition of frozen yogurt transcends any of the smoothies into the sublime. All of the fruit-based ones have been great, we've yet to encounter one we didn't like. Probably one of the most disgusting wraps I've ever had in my life. There was so much rice in it, it was like eating a floury rice ball with a touch of something forbidden in the center. During that time, I watched multiple people walk in, place orders after I had already checked in, and receive their food before me. The crazy part? It wasn't even busy. There was no line out the door, no rush, no obvious reason for such a ridiculous delay. After waiting long enough, I finally went up to an older gentleman working there (I'm assuming the owner) and politely explained that I had been waiting a very long time and was confused why people ordering after me were getting their food first. Instead of apologizing or even acknowledging the mistake, he was rude, dismissive, and acted like I was inconveniencing him for asking about an order that should have been ready ages ago. Then, after another 10 minutes, my bowls were finally ready. In total, I waited about 35 minutes after checking in for pickup. To top it all off, the older gentleman practically shoved the bowls at me without so much as a "sorry for the wait." Look, delays happen. Mistakes happen. What bothered me was the complete lack of communication, accountability, and basic customer service. If you're running behind, just be honest about it. Don't tell someone 10 minutes when it's really going to be over half an hour. The açaí is good, but not nearly good enough to make up for being treated like an annoyance. There are plenty of other places in San Diego serving great bowls without the attitude.

I found this place a little bit inconvenient to go to since the hours on Google and Yelp are incorrect and they didn't have any hours posted on their door, but they open at 10am on Tuesdays and not 7am. I also found it odd that they bill themselves as "on the go" food, but you cannot order ahead for pick up. If you order ahead you still have to go to the register to pay, which makes it a less convenient option than other campus options that do allow pick-up. There is no seating inside, but there are close tables and chairs that are outside. Note: This is on the UCSD campus, so it's not very convenient to go to unless you are already on the campus as you have to pay for parking.
