For those who don't know what the Dubai chocolates are, they are milk chocolates filled with shredded phyllo dough and pistachio cream. My first impression was whether or not I had walked into an art gallery or a confectionary shop. Uh...turns out both! According to their website, the owner and her partner were originally artists prior to becoming chocolatiers. This place just screams creativity and their chocolates are ethically-sourced and almost too pretty to eat. They even have a backroom gallery to showcase local artists' confectionary-inspired works. We couldn't find the Dubai chocolates, but one of the employees approached us and asked if we needed any assistance. Turns out they were in the back and they had just received a shipment! The female cashier who originally helped me was kind, welcoming, and handled my items with care. I purchased about half a bag of candy from her, and everything was pleasant. I later decided I wanted some dark chocolate, so I returned to make another purchase. By this point, the store was getting busier, and another employee stepped in. He asked whether the remaining candy was mine. I explained that it was not mine anymore because I had decided not to purchase it. Instead of simply leaving it at that, he continued confronting me about the candy and the original $43 price. I had already decided that $43 was far too much for a small bag of gummy candy, so I only purchased the portion I wanted and left the rest behind. His attitude toward me was rude and unnecessarily confrontational. While I was paying for my chocolate, he even threw it onto the scale rather than handling it with the same basic courtesy the previous cashier had shown. When I pointed it out, he picked it up and gently placed it down. I asked why he couldn't have handled it that way in the first place, and he continued arguing with me about the candy. At that point, I told him that he was being rude and disrespectful. There were children nearby, so I chose my words carefully and left the store. I understand that employees have to protect their merchandise and can question customers when necessary. However, there is a respectful way to handle those situations, and this was not it. I would have happily taken my business elsewhere if I had known I would be treated this way. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I Definitely won't be returning. Also, I must note for anyone wanting to buy candy in bulk: the gummies taste rancid. Whatever the store smells like is exactly what the candy tastes like...
