This was my first time visiting this establishment. They serve chips, salsa and a crema/white dip as a complimentary appetizer. We also ordrred a warm queso to accompany the chips. The chips tasted as if they were made in-house - warm and fresh. I had the grilled salmon with mango salmon as my entree; it had the right amount of sabor and plenty of heat. The portion sizes were plentiful as well as we walked out with enough to cover our next meal. The service could be better. While the server was very friendly and pleasant, we regularly had to ask for refills on chips and drinks. We swear by Taco Tuesday's in our house, but with food so good in here I'm happy to introduce Mexican Monday's, Tamale Thursday's and Flan Friday's into the household. We were greeted very warmly at the door by the manager and taken through to our seats with menus. The lunch menu is of phenomenal value, so definitely check it out! I ordered the shrimp tacos off the main menu, and I was not disappointed. The three shrimp tacos came served with some lettuce and cheese, with a side of tomato and sour cream special jalapeño coleslaw. The shrimp were grilled to perfection; tender and juicy. I wasn't a fan of the coleslaw - it didn't have the spicy kick to it I was expecting, but that's just personal preference. I was so full after that I had to pass on dessert sadly. But I will be back! JUAN'S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I guess it goes without saying how much I enjoyed this place, its in the chain of the best in its class. Looking at the amount of Mexican Restaurants opening in the are, I would say that Juan's has established itself among the elite. As with all places I visit, I try to do so when it is not busy. This way I can get quality of the food and service without having to experience the busy wind-and-grind! I think we visited on a Sunday afternoon. It was not busy so my wife and I had the undivided attention of the staff. So it goes without saying we had good service. Seated immediately by a friendly host who happen to be our server as well. For drinks I had the house beer, it was called the Devils Backbone. I always order the house beers when I go out because they always exceed in expectations. The Devils Backbone did not let me down. So smooth I had a second one before we even got our food. Wife had steak fajitas and I had some tacos. Her food was served on a sizzling platter like fajitas are served. Portions so nice that she did take it home with her. My tacos were light but filling. I had some sauces to go with them along with rice and some refried beans. Meanwhile our server kept checking on us. Service as face and very friendly. The ambiance was very pleasing and in tune with the theme of the restaurant. This is the old Abuelos restaurant so the décor did change some, but at the same time Juan's made its own! To top off the dinner we were served with a nice price for our food. We were stuffed for what we paid. Yelp offers free deserts when you check in which I forgot to take advantage of. Also the give military, law enforcement and federal employee discounts. Be sure and take advantage of those if you are in this category. Looking forward to our next visit. I suggest you give them a try. Oh, why only 4 stars. Well under the umbrella of Mexican food, it is American influenced which keeps it from the authentic Mexican. What is going on with prices ??? Inflation on the least expensive food ingredients??? You can not get anything under 15$. We ordered chimichangas. No bueno the chicken had a hunk of chicken in it no flavor just chicken stuffed in the smallest changa .... Beef is slimy shredded no flavor .... I ate at the bar and had several issues. 1) my ribeye was overcooked and it took over 20 minutes to get a new one (cooks in less than 5); 2) the bartender, Steve, called me a bitch and told me to get out of the bar for joking with the other bartender about not getting a steak knife (can't cut a steak with a butter knife). The brochetta (steak and chicken) was dry and one piece of steak was almost all fat. Pork belly tacos- great potential but they cut them up into cubes, 1/4 inch wide or less. If the pork cubes were bigger, it would feel like a taco with actual meat. The slaw with the wasabi was great. The Long Island was toooo sweet; maybe it was heavy on the rum???? Reminded me of a rum and coke, which I hate. If there was equal gin, vodka, and tequila in that drink, I couldn't appreciate it. Triple sec- nonexistent. The establishment covered up the large party sign with decorations and charged a party of 5, 20% gratuities with very poor service. Been here 3 times and loved the food every time. I had carne asada fries, carne asada nachos, and one of their wet burritos and all of them were super satisfying. The customer service was nice and on time with everything from taking orders, giving us our food, and our check. The only issue I had was one time I was served my food and the waiter didn't tell me the plate was piping hot, so I burned my palm trying to center my plate in front of me. Was working near peninsula town center today and remembered a great spot called abuelos. I parked my car and walked through the 40 degree mist, thinking of the yummy chips and salsa sure to great me soon after I sit down. To my surprise, abuelos is now called Juan's. No big deal. Restaurants change hands or rebrand. It's cool as long as they have Mexican food. Wrong. Everything about the food here is horrible. Store bought chips. Salsa that tastes like bland tomato sauce you'd use as an ingredient in spaghetti. Everything on the menu seemed like it was trying hard to be fancy but the descriptions just fell flat. I asked about a couple items but the server was clearly unenthusiastic about them so I passed. Settled on the classic steak fajitas. Can't mess that up, right? Oh, buddy, you naive bastard. Wrong again. These fajitas were technically made from steak but the pieces were so big and so flavorless it was hard to choke them down even after drowning them in hot sauce. The peppers and onions were barely cooked and I would be shocked if they were even in the same room as salt and pepper or any other spices. Just bland bland bland. Now I have to drag my ass out the door through the freezing fog twelve dollars poorer and wishing I had just gotten Taco Bell. After a long travel day back home we stopped in for a quick dinner. Easy to located in PTC and of course ample parking. Atmosphere is beautiful, seating is spacious, lighting just right, temperature perfect. We were Immediately greeted and seated, chips and salsa soon followed. Waiter was new and very anxious to please. With his coworker available to assist if needed, we placed our drink orders which arrived timely and cold and refilled without noticed. Chips, salsa, and the creamy white dip were served. I ordered chori pollo, grilled chicken and chorizo with a lot of gooey cheese. It came with a healthy serving of rice, beans, and lettuce. There was actually so much food that I ended up eating just shy of 1/2 for lunch and the rest was dinner. While we all know Mexican restaurants to serve food quickly, it wasn't as quick as the guy behind the bar had some sort of confusion. Either way, it wasn't a big deal.
