Overall I had a good experience at La Parrilla Mexican Restaurant in Hampton. The restaurant has that classic Mexican restaurant atmosphere--colorful and casual. There are plenty of booths and larger tables, so it seems like a great place for families, large groups, birthdays, or other celebrations. The food was good, and the portions were generous. Everything came out looking fresh and was nicely presented. Of course, we started with the chips and salsa. The staff was attentive throughout our meal and made sure we had everything we needed. ZERO STARS As a Latina who grew up eating excellent Mexican and Tex-Mex food, I can tell you that this food was AWFUL. We tried the Stuffed Jalapeños, Steak Fajitas, and Fried Whole Tilapia and after a couple of bites of each dish, we had to abandon ship. Even the complimentary chips and salsa were bad, and the ranch dressing that also accompanied the chips for some reason also didn't help. What really sealed the experience for us was the response when we told the waitress (Alejandra E) that the food was terrible. Instead of showing any concern or trying to make things right, she copped an attitude and simply asked if we wanted everything wrapped up to go. Why would we take home food we couldn't even eat in the restaurant? (((BAFFLED!))) Our "Go-To" Mexican restaurants back home are Uncle Julio's, On The Border, and Guapo's, so if you have a similar taste palate, RUN the other way. SAVE your money, SAVE your appetite, and spend it somewhere that actually cares about the food and customer experience! This was easily one of the WORST restaurant experiences we've had--EVER. I was glad they had tortilla soup since it was a cold day and it was decent but their attitude was unwelcoming. They seemed annoyed that I asked what came in the tortilla soup even after I informed them I had never been there. I'd rather cook at home than spend money at a business that doesn't value its customers. The most disrespectful variation of horchata I have ever subjected my taste bud to. I was stuck at home recently recovering from a minor surgical procedure and felt like some Mexican food. I found this place on DoorDash and ordered some chimichangas so I could check it out. Personally, I wasn't super impressed. Everything was OK, but didn't really have a whole lot of flavor for what I would expect from a Mexican place, and the chips were extra greasy. We loved our food here and would go back if we're in Hampton! This was the best food we had during our visit to Hampton for the jazz festival. The margaritas were great and strong for the price. The chips were good and the guac was a nice size and was really fresh. The fajitas were great. The chicken was flavorful with lots of veggies. They also remember to leave off the cheese and sour cream as I requested. The shrimp dish was also really good. The beans and rice were well seasoned and tasty. Stopped by on Thursday afternoon 10-22-26 to place a to-go order at the bar area and to have a cocktail while I waited. After sitting down was given menus and chips and sauce for appetizer and waited for bartender to take my order. Then things went downhill fast. He couldn't understand a word of English, screwed up the drink order twice, and had his boss come over to assist. The boss splashed a little rum into the glass, he splashed a squirt of coke, and the glass wasn't even a quarter full of liquid - for 8.50!!! I got up, paid my bill, and left. This is my favorite Mexican spot with authentic food in this area so I decided to hold a farewell for one of our military members here. I was impressed before with the food and customer service when it's just me and my husband, but this time we had 20 people. Let me tell you, it was the best large party experience I've had at a restaurant! We had two waiters taking orders, all our food came out at the same time, and all of our checks were separated and ready to go by the time we were ready to pay. It was the smoothest experience which made everything else so much more enjoyable. I decided to meet some friends for dinner at La Parrilla Mexican Grill when we walked in we were greeted by some wonderful smiling faces. They welcome us and they were able to see us right away. The waitress came and she took our drink orders and offered us some chips and dip. The chips and dip were excellent and freshly made. While she was getting our drinks, we decided on what food items we wanted. We decided on quesadillas and on Pollo Popeyes. The food came out, super quick and piping hot. It has now been several days since this incident, and despite attempting to contact the restaurant through Instagram and email, I still have not received any response from management. My party of three spent over $300 dining here. Before briefly stepping away to the restroom, we asked our waitress to watch our table and bring us a to-go bag, and he agreed. When we returned, our food had been thrown away without permission. The manager refused to resolve the issue, was dismissive and unprofessional, laughed with coworkers, and escalated the situation by calling the police instead of handling a customer service matter appropriately. What made the situation even worse was that staff later retrieved our to-go container from the trash and attempted to hand it back to us, which raised serious health concerns. At this point, I have filed a formal complaint with the Virginia Attorney General's Office due to the lack of response and handling of the situation. read more

I've ordered steak and rice bowls with vegetables at many Mexican restaurants, which typically cost around $20-$22 all-in. When my check arrived here, it came out to $36 for a single bowl. When I checked the itemized receipt, I realized why: The $16.99 menu base for the bowl already includes vegetables, but they unbundled them and charged an extra $5.99 for vegetables. Instead of charging the standard $3 protein upgrade, they billed the steak as an a la carte side of steak for $4.99. Tacking on tax and an automatic gratuity brought a standard $20 meal to $36. When I calmly brought this up to the manager and explained that I was charged extra for ingredients that were already supposed to be included in the bowl, he refused to listen or adjust the ticket. Instead of correcting the clear billing error or handling the situation professionally, he was dismissive, told me to "cough it up," and became belligerent. I was willing to pay a fair price ($25) for what I actually ordered based on the menu, but management refused to fix the inflated charges. Extremely disappointing customer service and deceptive billing practices. I will not be returning. Wanted that 10$ so bad, that he lost a repeat customer and his family. read more

only down side I would say is price is high at first sight. However, DONT I mean DONT let that fool you.. this food and place is by far the BEST food, I have had and Worth every dollar. The staff is friendly and approachable. Not to mention the server gave ample time for ordering and even did an exceptional job anticipating the needs of our party. my only regret is I wish I could have given a bigger tip. For Hampton, the food isn't bad. There is plenty of seating and the decor is your typical Mexican restaurant. My food wasn't bland like the rest of the restaurants in Hampton VA area. No one in my table complained about their food; however, no one raved about it. The portions were big, enough leftovers for lunch the next day. We stopped by here on a long drive from NC to DC, and it was a great lunch experience. It has the feel of a larger American Mexican restaurant with plenty of space, fun decor, a big bar, all the chips and salsa you can chow down, and very friendly and helpful staff. I enjoyed the food. I ordered chicken fajita which was seasoned well. I asked about which sauces came with the order and they were less then helpful. I paid $6 for sauce to later discover that sauce did actually come with the order. They were young but had a goofy energy and then started speaking Spanish to each other. I went here the other day when I needed to grab a quick meal. I didn't want anything too heavy, and no rice - I'm limiting my carbs (wink, wink). I got the La Parrilla salad which was good. It had chicken, shrimp, tomatoes, mushroom, pico, and cheese over lettuce, and a side of black beans. The beans weren't as tender as I'm used to, so I added them to my salad. The only thing the salad was missing was a heartier lettuce, but most Mexican restaurants serve iceberg lettuce. The server was nice. It did take awhile to get the food, which is odd for a Mexican restaurant. They have lots of seating, and accommodate larger groups. Good food and good service - I'd go back! read more

We were seated immediately and brought a basket of chips, side of salsa and a special dipping sauce that ive never had before. It was amazing! We ordered and the food came out very quickly, I ordered the Burrito Mexicanos, my youngest son ordered the California Burrito, and the oldest ordered nachos, my husband ordered the fajitas.
