So there I was at Juanito's Bistro, a popular watering hole in Kapitolyo, on a Saturday night for dinner... With my best friend and our kids. And hey, it wasn't bad.
We sat in a booth inside the air conditioned area, overlooking the outdoor tables as they filled up, appreciating the lifestyle of 'em younguns' like the titas we had become. We had spent the day chasing after our toddlers so we were mainly there to have beers and a hearty, wholesome dinner.
We had the bestsellers: tofu in oyster sauce with shiitake mushroom (get it!), chicken salpicao, and fish fillet in mushroom cream sauce. All of them were simple and good, the right kind of comfort and savory to fill us up good. It wasn't too heavy, too, to enjoy the (cheap-o 50-peso) beer we were having. The kids had some of the tofu and shared a hefty portion of the carbonara pasta.
Most of the food came without rice. Obviously they were meant as pulutan, but a cup of rice came at a reasonable 30 pesos, which is good to know in case you get the tipsy munchies. I guess things start happenin' at 9 p.m. which is right about the time we left, so it's safe to assume that Juanito's isn't too bad for a nice and early kid-friendly dinner while being a chill spot to drink with your friends. Oh, just a warning, though: parking will be a pain! read more
