The crust was very thin, even for a NYC slice, and was alright, being a bit doughy at the top. I found the sauce too sweet for my liking, which almost reminded me of the rather terrible Little Italy chain. There was plenty of cheese, and it had a good pull, even if it looked a bit overcooked on top. I'm presuming the average ratings here and on other sites are because of their location and the fact that a lot of tourists who go here can't tell the difference between Joe's and a dollar slice. Perfectly decent slice on the level, if not worse than many slices in the city, as I disliked the sauce, while the rest was fine.

They sat us upstairs along the balcony overlooking the main dining room, and the decor... honestly, just look at the photo because I don't even know how to describe it The space used to be a church, and it is SO cool inside. Definitely not your average pizza joint. This place is popular -- there were plenty of people eating -- but surprisingly, our wait wasn't long at all. And even with all the bodies in there, it never felt crammed or uncomfortable. We ordered a small pizza and did half Shrimp Fra Diavolo and half Margherita. The Fra Diavolo had a little kick, but nothing crazy -- and this is coming from someone who cannot handle big spice The Margherita had just the right amount of basil and mozzarella, and that crispy crust was exactly what I wanted. Although there was no major cheese pull, it was still perfect. The small was plenty for the two of us and honestly just perfect. We also had a couple cocktails, which were delicious too. I always say NYC food pricing is kind of deceiving. You look at the price and go, "Ummm..." but then the food comes out and you realize they give you A LOT. Definitely felt like we got our money's worth here. Great pizza, really cool atmosphere, and a fun first NYC pizza experience for the husband. Happy Eating, Chass

John's Pizzeria of Times Square is located inside a restored 19th‑century church. I sampled the a la vodka pasta. I was not over impressed. It was cold in parts and warm in others and the pasta was stuck together in places. It was also dry with not enough sauce. I had to ask for some extra. By the time the lack luster server returned with the sauce I was almost finished. I would not visit again, as now I have seen the historical element. The story began in 1995, when Madeline Castellotti, a hardworking single mother and former human resources professional, saw potential in a derelict Gospel Tabernacle Church on West 44th Street in Times Square. At the time, the area was gritty, with homelessness, graffiti, and adult‑shop culture, but Madeline envisioned a unique, family‑friendly space. She was drawn to the church's intact stained‑glass ceiling, divided into eight equal panels -- a design she likened to slices of pizza. After two years of renovation, Madeline converted the abandoned church into a modern pizzeria while preserving its historic character. The project included restoring the stained glass, adding balcony seating, and installing four 800‑degree coal‑fired brick ovens with no thermostats.

Last year, I was at Nothing Really Matters, the bar next door, with a group of friends. Someone ordered pizza, and I had no idea where it came from. I just remember thinking, "Wow, this pizza is really good." That memory stuck with me, so when a friend and I decided to stop by See No Evil Pizza yesterday, I was excited to finally visit. I didn't realize reservations were recommended, but thankfully Ariel, the host, was able to fit us in. Ariel was fantastic - he was friendly, welcoming, and so accommodating despite us showing up without a reservation. Ariel provided excellent service from the moment we walked in until we left. I didn't take any photos, which I now regret, because their pepperoni pizza was salty, addictive, and just really, really good. The pepperoni was crisp, the crust had that perfect char and crunch, and I couldn't stop reaching for another slice. The restaurant is small, cozy, and inviting. If you've been thinking about checking this place out, go for it. You won't regret it.

Also, the different textures of the arugula, creaminess of the cheese, and the perfect crust will make it a memorable selection. For dessert, we shared the Buttermilk Panna Cotta. Do people not realize that putting a bar near a door on a freezing cold night benefits no one? Good thing I did not order alcohol or I would have froze to death. Seriously, none of the pies stood out in grand memory. All I can think of is, well, nothing. Nothing positive anyway. The names of the pies are funny, and the staff is friendly, but besides that, the quality of the food for lack of a better word, dare I say it, sucks. Hoping to salvage the meal, I ordered their Chicken Parmesan. It was the Hail Mary pass that unfortunately did not connect. The cutlets are overcooked and dry, and the red sauce cooked with it has minimal tomato flavor. At least the spaghetti is cooked to a nice al dente and mellow garlic butter flavor, but like the sauce cooked in, it is also minimal. Part of the problem I feel is they are trying to go for a vibe that has a New York and modern feel. It does not work. Stay true to one or the other. Or at least look at other business models. I will use another pizzeria in Bushwick that exemplifies it perfectly. It is a hipster pizzeria in a hipster neighborhood. Through balance, it creates an ambiance both welcoming and warm without losing any of its Bushwick character. It does this by not beating you over the head with hipster vibes, just enough to let you know that you are in Bushwick. The band Franz Ferdinand was playing as I was wrapping up. The first thing you notice is the main bar wall, with its exposed centuries-old brick that has survived every bit of chaos this city could throw at it. It's subtly backlit from with a warm, amber glow that highlights every single historic groove and imperfection, making the whole room look like it's breathing. I have to say the centerpiece of the entire narrow room is the bar itself, and let me tell you, it is an absolute stunner of a contrast. Instead of the usual dark, sticky tavern wood, they've dropped in a long, continuous slab of pristine, elegantly smooth white stone. It glows under the soft lighting like a block of polished marble. There are no strobe lights and no obnoxious, skull-rattling bass in this joint. Instead, the room is wrapped in a blanket of incredibly chill music that matches the pulse of the room perfectly. It's just loud enough to drown out the noise in your own head, but quiet enough that you don't have to scream over the smooth white counter to be heard. People aren't here to be seen on TikTok; they're here to disappear for an hour or three. You slide into a chair, order a proper Old Fashioned from a bartender who doesn't rush the pour, and watch the ice melt against the amber-lit brick. It's the ultimate underground exhale--a perfect, narrow slice of peace in a city that never shuts up. Cheers!
