Arancini

Stopped by Juana La Loca in Old San Juan while in town with friends. It's located about a 10 min walk from the main plaza near the entrance to old San Juan. Food: We ordered the cod fritters, arancini, empanadas, and croquettes for starters. The cod fritters and arancini being the table favorite. Empanadas didn't have much stuffing and the croquettes were on the blander side. For entrees we chose the churrasco, risotto, and chicken. My favorite parts of the entire meal by far were the chicken and the rice and beans you can order as a side. Probably the best of each I've had in San Juan, the chicken had a delicious guava sauce and the rice and beans was standard but bursting with flavor. The churrasco was just ok and very overpriced for skirt steak at about $70. Service: Our server was very friendly. Made recommendations on items to order and checked in on us regularly. He was also actually making our drinks and made a great pina colada. A house special apparently. I'd recommend making a reservation if you have a party of 4 or more. The restaurant filled up quickly and singles/couples were sent to the bar for the most part. Ambiance: The restaurant was small on the interior but really nicely designed. Had an older exterior to fit the Old San Juan aesthetic, including the exposed brick on the interior. Lots of classical painting and interesting furniture pieces throughout. Past the main bar and dining room area they also have a beer garden which appeared to be closed. There were live performances happening during our visit and we got the chance to see a great guitarist and a dancer. Dinner and a show is always a good time. I'd definitely revisit Juana La Loca next time I'm in San Juan. But will probably skip the steak!

Walking around Old San Juan on a Saturday and heard live music. We went in for a sangria. The sangrias were strong and fabulous with rum added. The musician was good as was his partner who played castanets and danced. Air conditioning another plus. The service was very friendly. Great respite from the heat.

Fantastic bartender!

Best Night Ever! If you're in Puerto Rico and looking for an unforgettable dining experience, this is the place to go! From the moment we walked in, the staff went above and beyond to accommodate our large girls' trip party, making sure we were comfortable and well taken care of. The food? Absolutely delicious. Every dish was full of flavor and beautifully presented. But the real star of the night? The bartender. Hands down, the best I've ever encountered. Not only did he craft incredible cocktails, but he also took the time to explain his techniques, incorporating creative designs that made each drink feel like a work of art. A true professional! And just when we thought the night couldn't get any better, the DJ started playing old-school '70s and '80s R&B, setting the perfect vibe. Then--karaoke! We had an absolute blast, singing and dancing well past midnight. The energy, the music, the people--it was all perfection. If you're looking for a restaurant that delivers amazing food, top-tier service, and an atmosphere that turns dinner into an unforgettable party, look no further. 10/10 would go back in a heartbeat!

A talented Guitarist who should have a record deal.

Upon my arrival to San Juan, I spoke with Karina while at the Airport. She highly recommended Juana La Loca for good authentic food. I was in town for one night only. I secured a rental and drove about 15 minutes. Juana La Loca did not disappoint. Excellent food and Drinks with live entertainment. The Staff was great. I was welcomed with open arms. My experience was wonderful. I will be returning soon.

The food was good, but not outstanding. You can find better Puerto Rican restaurants in San Juan at a much lower price. While the steak I ordered was tasty, it wasn't worth $80 for just a piece of steak and a salad. The atmosphere was beautiful and had an elegant vibe, and the service was excellent with no complaints. Unfortunately I did not take a photo of the steak. Also the empanadas came with three pieces and they were really delicious

Live music

This restaurant surpassed every expectation. The servers, especially Isaac, were EXCELLENT and so hospitable. There was live music and dancing as well as lovely brunch and coffee. I could not have asked for more.

AMBIANCE You're in the city so it's an eventful area. There's street parking and nearby lots but your best to carpool or rideshare. As for the vibes, I'm told in the daytime it's a local marketplace that's filled with vendors and other fresh produce booths. It's pretty chill with a nice neighborhood feel. As for the evening, this is where to turn up and get a pulse of Puerto Rico parties. EXPERIENCE Go to your bar, pick your vibe from community, club excessive, lounge feel, live music or etc. Drink choices rangeThey have it here! Plenty of photo op spots and good energy. I was here peak of the #DTMF era so it was magical to see people come together with a speaker and a cowbell. A local put into perspective how this was way better than paying for an expensive hotel party. It was truly a 1 of 1 experience. TL;DR OVERALL 5 Stars. It doesn't get any better. There's a reason why this space is dropped in lyrics and people's recommendations because this is the heart of the people. So don't be shy! Grab a drink, walk around, catch a dance, and be safe! TIPS: * Don't just settle for one spot. Be sure to explore around to experience the entire Santurce experience!

Review #1,047 Posted on 4.26.26…read more We came to La Placita on Thursday the 23rd, when in town to celebrate my buddies 50th birthday. I guess this was purposefully done as I've heard it's nuts here on Fridays & Saturdays. When you get dropped off at the main road when you walk down it takes you to all the action in a few hundred feet. This place was still packed, but it was popping, the place to be at night I'd guess. They've got all JJ da of restaurants, bars, & clubs here. Tons of music, & a good time.

I had the protein lover bagel, but it was a little oily for me. But I mean, that's usually normal with bacon and all the other meats in there. The Dominican special was simple and good, it was not oily. The bread was fluffy and crunchy. Everything on the plate just went well together! I asked for hot sauce, and they gave a Puerto Rican brand hot sauce! Other restaurants will always offer me tobasco or siracha, which is fine. But I'm in Puerto Rico, and I want to try hot sauce brands from this place!

We caught sight of this scene on Monday and couldn't get that off our minds all week. Before leaving the island we made sure to drop in for a fresh coconut...only to learn this cafe without a menu makes food and beverage to suit your needs. We had plans to get dinner after our coconuts but once we learned what this spot was all about we determined there was no longer a need to go anywhere else. Jonas Serrano is the beautiful mind behind Phyt NYC and has a gym in the same building. He also happens to sometimes be at the cafe ensuring guests with good vibes only are welcomed in. We had the entire space to ourselves on our last night on the island. It couldn't have been more perfect. The food was so good we ordered an extra plate to go for the plane ride the next day. BEST. IDEA. EVER. Thanks to Jonas I had a healthy, delicious meal to keep me satiated on my long haul home. And our last evening in Condado was perfect! After a stressful and busy workweek this was the ideal place to unwind. We had a lovely perch above the busy street below and enjoyed giving Junior (the adorable resident pup) lots of love. If you are a low-key visitor looking for a relaxing space and delicious meal look no further. Don't expect to be served if you are unruly or just looking for your next drink. This is not the place for all that. Have a seat, meet Junior, enjoy the breeze, and if you're lucky, learn a thing or two from Jonas!

When I came to San Juan last in 2014 I swore that I would return and get some more mofongo here…read more. and I did! I may not be here all the time (though I'd love to be), but when I come.. I need to go here. If it seems that I base some of my travel (*most of my travel) around food, well..that may be true..! Conveniently located in Viejo (Old San Juan) you can find this little kiosk at the plaza de colon, the central square in the old part of town with the statue of the guy on a tall post. Can't miss it - truly. The kiosk has a couple of quick, delicious (to go) options available .. hence the punny name. Thirsty? Get some fresh, tangy lemonade. Or better yet.. buy a fresh young coconut.. they will drill a hole in it for you and give you a straw. So good! Hungry? Well.. listen up. Get an alcapurria or two, these things are so good you'll probably want another. They are essentially fried oblong things filled with meat, cheese and surrounded by a mixture of plantain and yucca. Crispy but also soft on the outside with a savory meat filling.. quite addicting! Then, mofongo wise they have several options which is kindof neat if you want to change it up. To start you pick your base, either regular mashed plantain, sweet mashed plantain, mashed yucca, or trifongo; ra combination of all three. Then, you pick your topping.. I recommend the beef paired with regular green plantain. The veggie is quite good as well, it has several different kinds of marinated beans in the mix.

A picture is worth a thousand words and i gotta tell you - this place is worth checking out.read more

Review #1,046 Posted on 4.26.26…read more We came here on Thursday the 23rd while in San Juan area for my buddies 50th birthday. This spot we had seen on social media a ton for being famous for their Mallorca sandwich, a special type bread, we got the one with bacon & American cheese. Man, I made the mistake of doing the bacon instead of ham, overthought that deal. I tried my buddies with ham n cheese and I think that was way to go. I loved how this spot had that super old school feel of like a diner. You can sit at one of the table tops, or you can do the countertop too, which has tons of seats, we all were able to sit there. I'd 100% recommend this spot, but get the ham n cheese mallorca sandwich, don't overthink it.

After a few minutes, people started trickling down and soon the place was close to being full. I liked the mallorca with ham, bacon, cheese! It was delicious. They looked small but they were filling. The pastries displayed at the window were inviting. If you're dining in, you have to tell your server that you're getting some pastries that are on display then you ask the person at the counter who also serves as the cashier to get them for you. The guava pastry was good. The vanilla bread with strawberry and pineapple/lemon was okay. They looked better than they tasted in my opinion. Payment for everything would be at the cashier after dining. If you're in San Juan, this is a place to try!

The shop is a few minutes detour from the expressway, but the easy parking situation, comfortable ambience and friendly staff, make it a nice pit stop. Be prepared to spend some cash for these cheeses, but I love supporting a local, agricultural business in PR. I would love to try their tours and make your own cheese experiences, but these are super pricey at around $100 per person: spendy even after factoring the cheese and wine offered.
