1 Star -- An Extremely Costly and Frustrating Experience. I Would Strongly Advise Against Using JTC for Complex Exotic Car Repairs.
I brought my 2013 Ferrari California to JTC Automotive for a malfunctioning convertible roof. What followed was one of the most frustrating and expensive automotive service experiences I've ever encountered.
JTC undertook an approximately $15,000 repair involving replacement of the roof's kinematic mechanisms and calibration of the convertible top. I trusted them to have the expertise necessary to perform this highly specialized work correctly.
The roof failed again almost immediately after I got the car back.
When the vehicle returned to JTC, their attempts to free the jammed roof resulted in scratches to a painted roof panel, damage they subsequently repaired. I also learned that components of the roof mechanism had been omitted during the original work and that JTC had attempted to bend or adjust a component that wasn't functioning properly.
Rather than receiving a properly functioning convertible top after an expensive repair, I was left with a vehicle in significantly worse condition.
The situation ultimately escalated to the point where JTC presented an estimate of nearly $69,000 to replace the entire convertible roof assembly, citing a bent driver's-side hinge.
Think about that: I brought in a functioning, drivable Ferrari with a roof mechanism problem, authorized a substantial repair, and ended up facing a proposed repair bill approaching $70,000 after their work.
An independent technical assessment subsequently documented abnormal mechanical contact, deformation, exposed-metal damage, and a cracked adjacent component consistent with the roof mechanism binding or jamming. Although the assessment did not conclusively determine responsibility, its findings reinforced my serious concerns about what had occurred during the repair process.
What made this experience particularly disappointing was the handling of the aftermath. Rather than a straightforward resolution, the situation escalated into a prolonged dispute involving warranty coverage, insurance, and legal correspondence.
I understand that exotic vehicles are complicated and that mechanical failures can happen. What I cannot accept is paying a premium for specialized expertise, having the original problem remain unresolved, experiencing additional damage while the vehicle is in the shop, and then being presented with an extraordinary replacement estimate.
My advice to anyone considering JTC for a Ferrari, particularly one involving a complex convertible roof mechanism, is to proceed with extreme caution.
Based on my experience, I would never entrust another vehicle to this shop. The financial exposure, aggravation, and loss of confidence simply aren't worth it. read more
