I have on three separate occasions tried to get a quote for a new system from JT Mechanical. Have talked to the boss/owner who shared he was setting up his best sales guy and would give me a time. I've reached out 3 times to try and get the appointment lined up with no joy. Have worked with them twice in the past with good results. Who needs Angie's List when you can have YELP for free. We returned home from vacation to a very cold house late on a Saturday evening. I let my fingers do some walking on the YELP pages and found JT Mechanicals to be well reviewed. Thank you Lance and Mary R. for making my decision easier. I left a message on Sunday hoping for a call back Monday morning but no....I got a call back within 2 minutes. I assured Jeff that we had a toasty fireplace and an electric blanket, we can wait until Monday am. He was punctual and came with very cute booties to cover his shoes. Jeff verified that my husband had done all the resets listed on the furnace properly and that we needed a new logic board, ugh. He then drove to the Trane Parts Store, brought it back and installed it. We felt that the service and labor charges were on par with what we expected. I waited about a year to submit my review of JT Mechanical, just to give all the equipment and workmanship ample time to pass or fail (I have a two zone system in a two story house). The good news is, it has been a little more than a year with both the equipment that was installed and the workmanship are performing flawlessly. I did significant research on HVAC systems and local companies before I started taking bids (I got bids from 4 local companies to include JT M. ranging from about $6.5K to about $18K); if I am going to drop a significant amount of $$$$ on anything I am going to make sure I am comfortable with the equipment and the company I am handing my hard earned dollars over to. Just to be clear here, JT M. wasn't the lowest bid I received and below are a few of the reasons in addition to the flawless operation and workmanship. First, the owner himself "Jeff" came to our house to do the initial consultation. He was straight forward and didn't attempt to "up sell" me on equipment or services I didn't need. He spent a significant amount of time with me and answered all my questions to my complete satisfaction. Even after he left if I had any questiones (and I did come up with a few after meeting with other companies) he took my call and answered my questions. After about two weeks of bids, conversations, and phone calls I felt the most comfortable that JT M. was the company I wanted to work with. I contacted Jeff and we set a date, time, and time frame to start and complete the install. Second, and probably most importantly here in Va. Beach, is that they actually showed up on the right day, time, with all the right gear, and an appropriate number of people to meet our agreed to install and completion. The owners son was leading the install crew and he (and the crew) were all very courteous, professional, and attentive to detail. These guys even wore the shoe covering booties each and every time they came in doors. The install went flawlessly and their attention to detail was top notch. Lastly, they didn't just take my money and run. JT M. contacted me a few months later to check on things and even included the first seasonal system check as part of their install. I even get responses when I email them to ask questions like when the thermostat was flashing a "service required" pop up window. Anyway, if you are going to make a large capital investment like an HVAC system do your research, ask a lot of questions to your satisfaction, get multiple bids so you can see the range in price/cost, and make sure you include JT Mechanical as one of the companies to bid your job. read more

Glad to see Jeff and the crew getting some positive reviews on yelp. I should have done this sooner, myself. A couple of months back we were have some furnace issues, so we called JT Mechanical. Jeff was out the next day and diagnosed several issues that needed to be addressed. What impressed me was that one part that needed to be replaced was under warranty and that saved me some money. However, I wouldn't have known that and only Jeff's honesty saved that money for me. He easily could have charged me for that part. A week or so later, we had more issues and Jeff was out the same day. It turned out to be an easy fix (unrelated to the previous work) but Jeff's prompt service was again the thing that impressed me most. We were up and running in no time. Our experience with Jeff and Mike from JT Mechanical began a little over a year ago after another large, local HVAC company informed us that the problem we were having with our heater was the result of a cracked heat exchanger and would require us to replace the entire system. The technician from this "much publicized" company even retrieved a similar part from his truck to demonstrate the damage he told us had occured to ours. When we went back through our paperwork and told him it was still under warranty, he claimed it would cost almost as much in labor to swap out the "bad" part as it would to replace the entire system. YEAH RIGHT! After deciding to get a second opinion, I found JT Mechanical online; they were close by, had excellent reviews, and Jeff agreed to come out the next day. He inspected our system, told us our heat exchanger was in fact NOT cracked, and although it wasn't in "A-1" condition (the system did need a thorough cleaning), it was not in imminent need of replacement as suggested by the first company. We were so impressed by Jeff--he didn't even charge us for the second opinion, which we were prepared to pay--that from now on, we will only be using JT Mechanical Co. for all our HVAC and plumbing needs. We've since subscribed to their yearly maintenance service, and when our water heater was in need of repair a couple of months ago, Jeff and Mike came to our rescue again. This was no easy swapping "in and out" either. The way our unit was originally vented required extra time and research due to the local inspection code, and working with them made what could have been a headache a breeze! We'd HIGHLY recommend them to anyone looking for a dependable, trust-worthy, family-owned company with a personal touch. Our experience with JT Mechanical was better than perfect. Jeff, the owner, was a teacher patiently taking the time to explain everything we wanted to know. His son, Mike, and his team did a consummately excellent job, wiping their fingerprints off shiny surfaces on the furnace (I mean, really, who even THINKS of doing that?) They were on time. Our AC system has been struggling for the past 2 years and finally died. We got 3 estimates and went with JT's even though it wasn't the cheapest. (All 3 estimates were within a few hundred dollars.) We went with company for a few reasons. First, it's family owned, and the owner Jeff and the technicians Mike, Dave and Dave took the time to answer all of our questions as well as keeping us updated through every step of the process. We also appreciated the lack of high pressure sales tactics. They were professional, friendly and took extra care protecting our floors and house in general. They were also very timely when they came out to check our unit and when Jeff came out for the estimate. Once we decided on JT's, they started the same day. We heard that Mike is the best technician in the area, and it was definitely NOT an exaggeration. He told us he was a little OCD, and that showed through the work. After snaking my old sewer line a few weeks ago, I asked them to repair/replace the clogged and broken section under the front yard. It was not a fun job and more damage than was anticipated was discovered. I'm very impressed! We bought a new house in January this year, and were told by the house inspector and builder to get the AC checked when it is warmer. We had somebody from this company inspected my aunts house few weeks ago so we can get a quote for heating. After he inspected the house, he told us he will send a quote/ estimated cost thru my email but never did. They even moved the original appointment we had, supposedly Friday afternoon then they called me morning that same day that they won't be able to come, so basically it was a short notice. The guy who inspected the house was not even approachable, like he just came in, started measuring things inside the house and etc. The big thing that made me really upset is, don't tell me you will send me email for a quote if you're not really going to. If they weren't able to or not comfortable installing heating system in the house he could have just emailed me atleast rather than keeping us waiting for nothing. read more

Called for an estimate to replace duct work in my crawl space. I was impressed with the person who visited. However, after three weeks, I had not received an estimate. They finally fessed up that that their duct work guy had quit and they couldn't do the job. Woke up this morning to a freezing cold house. Our furnace wasn't working. Called JT as they'd done work for us in our previous VA Beach home and were very helpful and reasonably priced then. They came out today within 3 hours of our call, right at the promised time, and fixed the issue for a minimal charge. Since we just moved to this house in Chesapeake recently, Mike even looked up the serial numbers of our other components to inform me of when they were installed and what was covered in the warranties.
