This is the greatest tree company in all of Ann Arbor. I have now used them twice (5 years apart) within impeccable results both times. I won't even bother looking at other companies when I need services again. After the massive storms last month, I had a large tree in my front yard become uprooted. While it did not fall, it needed to be removed ASAP. To add to my headache, my next door neighbor was extremely difficult about the situation to say the least. Sara and Nicole responded with empathy and even though my difficult neighbor was not their problem, they got me in a full three weeks ahead of schedule. Had 2 6-foot spruce trees taken down today by none other than the owner himself, Jason. While scheduling the appointment was a bit confusing, when the boss of a company knocks on your door to do the grunt work, you gotta give the man props! Jason confirmed the job order, got the work done, cleaned up after himself and asked if everything was satisfactory and met our (obvious) expectations! We have a couple more trees on our property that will need work and we definitely know who to call! read more

Horrible horrible experience with their front office just trying to set up an estimate...person kept telling me "how busy they were" with storm damage work and refused to actually listen to what I was requesting (numerous times)....which was to be able to walk the property with the estimator so I could explain some details of the project. After rescheduling my 1st apt to help with their apparent scheduling issues I was then bumped again the day of my appointment. Even after letting them know I was no longer interested in rescheduling again (due to obvious reasons) they text and tell me a person will be at my property in an hour to review and give an estimate....what? To top it off the front office rep contacts me and proceeds to tell me I'm wrong regarding my request to be present during the walk through...WTF? I would have liked to have seen a quote from them but I think I'd rather light my trees on fire than deal with their front office again. What a great job and a great crew. They showed up on time and worked diligiently in the inclimate weather, like it was just another day. Our fraternity house has been on Washtenaw since 1926 and our trees as well. It was a sad day, but a necessity to have the aging pine removed. Jason treated us professionally during the bid as did the crew while on site to do the job. And other than a stump and an open space where a once majestic pine tree towered over our three story house, there was no trace of any tree work done. A great clean up! I personally, along with those at Chi Phi Fraternity, would recommend this company for your tree work, and we know we'll call them back for our needs in the future. read more

I had a pretty terrible experience with this company all around. I hired them to remove 5 trees at my property, and at first I was rather pleased with the attention and level of service. They were very good about communicating both via phone and via email. However, once we had a date decided on to do the work (i.e., they had secured the job, and were no longer in "sales mode"), it all went downhill. They were scheduled to show up at 9 am. I took the day off to be home for the work. By noon, nobody had shown up, and nobody had called me. When I called them, I was told the crew got sidetracked by an "emergency job" and should be to my place shortly. Then, a few hours later, I was told they would be coming back the next day. So, I took that day off as well, and when the crew showed up, the "foreman" told me he was new and wasn't comfortable backing the bucket truck into the spot it needed to go, so he'd have to return back the next day with his boss. At that point, I discussed with him, reinforcing what the sales person and I had discussed weeks earlier, that only two trees would be removed with the truck and the other 3 would have to be climbed, due to their location. He agreed. I couldn't be there for day 3, and when I got home, I found truck tire tracks leading up to all 5 trees, including the one that required driving their bucket truck directly across the middle of my septic field. There were ruts that were 6" deep and several dozen feet long. Even if we hadn't discussed it in advance, a professional should know better than to drive heavy equipment across a leach field. That's pretty universally known to be a terrible idea. Additionally, while I recognize that some collateral damage (broken branches, etc.) is expected with tree work, there was a 1' wide by 2-3' long patch of bark scraped completely off a nearby residual tree. That's large enough that it'll never heal fully. So, that tree is basically a lost cause now. I was issued an apology over the phone and by email, but despite me explaining that I would have to repair the lawn which will cost me in both time and materials, they decided to still invoice me for the full original price. There are lots of tree services in the area. I'll certainly be hiring a different one next time. read more

In early October, J's Tree told me they would be sending me a new contract for doing my snow plowing. I received nothing, emailed them a few weeks later and got no reply. I called them in early November and was told they were no longer in the snow plowing business. No apology, just a weak excuse. I asked for a referral and they have me a guy who knew nothing about this and then said he doesn't come as far as Whitmore Lake. Strike one, strike two and strike three. read more

J's crew recently trimmed some trees in our backyard, and also cut down a large tree and ground the stumps for us. The team was great while onsite and deserves 5 stars. However when we were invoiced for the work (via email) and I called to pay over the phone with a credit card on the same day, I was charged an additional 3% fee for that and a $10 processing fee. It's 2018 and not a great business model to charge your customers service fees for using a credit card for same day payment. read more

After struggling to find a tree trimming company that would return our calls, I was delighted to find J's Tree Trimming. We had a large maple that needed thinning out and two stumps removed from a previous job. J's was able to accommodate both requests in a very short timeframe at a great price. I was especially pleased to learn they have a dedicated office staff, which ensured prompt scheduling of appointments and processing billing paperwork. My neighbor recommended J's and very glad that I've chosen them. It was big job that took 4 days to cutting down 26 trees, grinding stumps and some more triming from my one acre land. Jason was polite, extremely timely, very fair with his pricing, and overall just fantastic to work with. He literally came to our rescue when we had an emergency situation and a large tree fell down and blocked the street. I had reported it to the city 2 hours before we called him and he beat the city workers to the scene and also gave us a good price. Considering how the day had been with the tree falling and everything, I am so glad Jason could have the street cleaned up within hours of it falling. read more

Completely unprofessional. Misquoted a site clearing project by a multiplier of five (roughly $20,000.00) and were not willing to negotiate their error, rather, they held up payment for other Subcontractors by refusing to sign a waiver. They also felt it was okay to stack logs, branches, etc. in adjacent parts of my property, which still have not been addressed. I would NOT recommend them. read more

Great work and fair prices! They always answer the phone when I call, they are extremely prompt, and have great employees. From the estimator I met with, to the scheduler, to the crew who showed up to do the work - everyone has been great to work with. The crew was right on time, they were quick, super friendly and did a great job! They had my 3 trees down very quickly, and did a great job with all of the clean up! Very disappointed with the service/lack of follow though from these folks. After setting a 9 am appointment for an estimate and staying home from work to meet with them, they called a few minutes prior to reschedule for 3 PM that afternoon. I went to work and then took off early to come back home for the 3 PM, only to have them no show with no phone call. read more
