I went in to get my back brakes replaced and my back tire inner tube replaced (I brought the inner…read moretube). I was told this service would take a couple days, which I expected, and left my bike with them. I then received a message 2 days later saying they had replaced the inner tube and just needed to get confirmation to go ahead with some brake repairs, which I approved for the estimated price of 76.02. I then heard nothing from them for 3 weeks. As it is midterm season and I am in a challenging major, I didn't have time to be thinking about my bike, so I assumed parts were on back order or something. Eventually I caved and messaged possible times I could pick up the bike. I was then messaged after both of the times I gave, such that I couldn't pick up my bike for another week. When finally messaged back, I discovered they uncharged me to 116.02 for a service I did not approve. When I eventually made it into the shop, I inquired about the time and the price. The employee I talked to gave me attitude saying, "It sounds like you should open your own bike shop." After repeatedly telling the employee I was talking to I was not mad and simply curious as to what happened, he told me someone put the bike on a rack upstairs and forgot about it for nearly a month. In the end, they took 20$ off the total (still 20$ more than what I was sent in an itemized list). Overall extremely unprofessional experience, I will be fixing my bike on my own from now on.

Additionally, making fun of the gift (bike computer) given to me from my kids shows their real character and should not be conveyed by a business owner to anyone. Taking 2 weeks to mount tire to a new wheel was my frustration and disappointment with Virtuous. Business owner did not address this in his reply. I did not accuse staff of stealing, I asked where bike was stored during the 2 weeks and if everyone visiting business has access. When visiting the store and seeing the disorganization and randomness of which the bikes were stored about, it seemed likely that something could go missing, that's why I asked. Tire on new wheel has not been able to keep air in it since bringing home. Worst service experience I have ever had, would give zero stars if could. Left bike at shop as it needed a new wheel, gave directions on size of wheel and tire to order to the service tech. Received notice that items were ordered and it arrived in a few days, however it took 2 weeks to get it installed. When picking up noticed tire and valve was incorrect size. Positive note, they were able to switch out and get me out the door in 15min and I appreciated that, but it left me thinking.... why did it take 2 weeks to get my wheel and tire installed when it took 15min. when they had it incorrect. Entire operation felt disorganized, and that technicians were working to accommodate everyone who stops in for minor repairs vs those who had come in before them. Side note, when testing riding my bike noticed front tire was flat, gears did not shift correctly, and I was missing my bike computer. Want to support local businesses but this experience was terrible.

There's a nice bike shop in Gosport inside the former Gosport Opera Building. I stopped in mainly…read moreto gain access to the store next door (they have a common internal passage and the bike shop folks watch over the other place when that person steps out.) When I returned, the bike shop guy was very helpful with information about the town and other places to check out. The store itself is a shotgun style with high ceilings, so they can stack bikes two rows high and even hang rims from the top. They also have lots of accessories and items for skateboarding too. When you walk in, it looks a bit cluttered with the space being so narrow, but if you need anything, you can simply ask the staff to help you. Seemed pretty knowledgeable. I can't say how good the repair service or even how competitive the pricing is since I haven't bought a bike in years. But if you want to deal with someone who has a personality instead of some mindless automaton, check them out! Review #1782

They have a great selection of products ranging from Bicycles to Longboards and everything in between. If you can't find what you're looking for (which is very unlikely) they are quick to order it. If you're looking for quality bicycles, part/accessories, outstanding customer service or maybe just a quick tune up you have to check out Pengin Cycle Werks!

I am new in town and this was the first bike shop I tried based on reviews online. Now I realize…read morethat there are sort of a handful only, probably from family and friends of the owner. My recommendation: trust your gut. If the person interacting with you looks miserable, rude, and does not want to talk about your bike...run away. The staff is not the most patient and friendly. Going there feels like going through a McDonald's Drive Through, even though there is no one in the store most of times. They did not want to discuss the details of the service or what could be the issue with the bike. When asked about the possibility to get a part replacement, they brushed it off as it would take too much time and did not stop moving forward with "it's going to be ready in 2 days" before I could follow up on the matter. I really needed the bike done, otherwise I would have just walked out the door. The service was very disappointing to say the least. My bike was dirty, and I assumed that paying for tune-up on top of the specific repair it needed would make them clean it up. Again, it is hard to have expectations for the service clear if the person seems unwilling to discuss it at drop off. To my surprise, the bike was as dirty as when I dropped it off. How can you make sure all mechanisms are running smoothly if you did not even clean the bike? I am pretty sure there was no tune-up there. It is frustrating to pay $100 for a ghost tune-up. Makes you wonder if the main repair was really done properly as well. I just did not give the lowest score because they were actually very fast and returned the bike in 2 days as promised. But it's kind of easy when you don't actually do much work on it.
