The stand-alone best global food buffet I have had in the UK thus far. There is literally a floor-wide variety of food from hot Italian pizza and a pasta and salad bar to freshly prepared teppanyaki, Chinese dim sum, Japanese sushi, Indian curry, all sorts of fusion foods and fried foods; meat and vegetable assortments as well as several fresh fruits, a chocolate fountain, a few basic ice cream flavours, a long counter-full display of desserts from petit cakes to childhood sweets. To top it off there is also a counter dedicated to hot and cold drinks included in the buffet. Seating is timed but reasonable as otherwise we might all be unable to get up from our seats with all the food and drink we are tempted to stuff into our stomachs. Each time I've come here the restaurant is packed which helps to keep the food hot and continuously prepared. Everything is orderly and clean, payment is taken upon entry, and the fact that drinks are also self-service hugely helps in the independent-feel to the dining experience.  My one criticism is that the ice cream section has consistently been under the weather with the ice cream already being too soft and airy as well as the state of it all being unsightly e.g. the ice cream scoops being dirty and floating in murky water and the ice cream itself looking dishevelled with mixing of flavours and a hard-to-scoop texture.  Anyhow, as mentioned before, this global buffet is a lot to stomach - but in a good way!

This was the place they were reffering to. Something of a cult hit in the area, Gourmet Buffet earnt a repuatation for being good, being cheap and then hosting karaoke if you take a party of 15 with you. I havent seen the karaoke machine out recently, mostly because I go there for 5 pound lunch, because dinner only has peking duck and a couple of rather nice dishes extra for 10 or 11 pounds. Go, take some friends, call in advance on 020 8640 1115 to book the karaoke machine as you have to eat here and can't just turn up for a sing. I dont reccomend seeing if you can make some racist comments to see if Good Shoes were right, but if you do go say hi to Chinese 'Dave' who is a huge man who always makes me laugh and has a warmth that brings regular customers each and every evening!

Once the beer/wine has kicked in with the tasty buffet meal you will find yourself drawn to join in the fun, and before you know it the night is drawing to a close (all too soon) and all of you and your mates have decided it's a great idea to all get up and sing Bohmemium Rhapsody. A solid good night out - make sure you book in advance though as it is a popular night out

So let me contextualise this review a little for everyone. It started with Tim L. who created a…read morethread regarding what kind of restaurant would we open and one thing lead to another or should I say one Thalie A. led to a Josy A. who led to an Ela T. and here we are talking about buffets of all types good and bad. I'll be honest the more involve I got in to this conversation the more I had a craving for a Chinese buffet, so what did I do, I hid until the sun came down and out I went in search for my closet Chinese buffet fix. Yes just like that a simple conversation through yelp led me to a table with a fork in my hands within hours. Josy A. said I should be disappointed with the quality of the food I find which was sound advise to be honest as I was out to satisfy "the eternal hunger" that was a upon me. The second I've entered this place and the first time was not good it was bad but this time was different I had "the eternal hunger" which will last forever until my craving was satisfied for Chinese. I'd almost forgot this place is not Chinese it's a selection of pan Asia dishes ranging from Thai to Indian , which also had a barbecue station for grilled meet and veg as well as a man bread station that cooked the nan bread fresh in front if you. For £15 this is a good buffet purely because it was cheaper than the amount discussed in our thread but also the vast selection of food on offer. I feel my tip was accurate when I said indulge and overload, as I am now suffering from a pan Asia food coma onslaught all because I took Tim L's thread a little too far.

So I took note of an award given to Spice Village on its window saying it was the favourite curry house of the locals. Not sure though about a picture of the local MP eating here with the stock of MPs being at a historic low. It feels like a family restaurant with a lot of functional tables in the dining area and in common with most of the Upper Tooting restaurants, an open kitchen. I loved watching the chef make my roti in the tandoor oven. A bad start as they didn't have onion bhajis, my first choice starter and the mango lassi tasted artificial, possibly from a bottle. However, the methi gosht had nice spicing - fenugreek I think being the predominant flavour - and the lamb was tender. The roti was light and a good foil. 3.5 stars but not quite enough to tip it into 4 stars at the moment.

They told…read moreme about this place and that it was great value, had tasty food all in a simple location. They were right, except about the location. Since my friends have last been there they have totally renovated the place and now It's a stunningly fancy setting with long couches for seats, multiple chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, and an intimate vibe. Don't be too intimidated though, you won't need a shirt and tie. Service was fast and efficient. Expect a wait if you don't make a reservation, so try to phone ahead. I ordered the peshwari naan which is sweet and stuffed with cream and a cocoon filling. It's really a meal on it's own, but I had it with the lamb korma, which was fantastic. It was served piping hot, and was deliciously sweet and nutty. Even with the fancy decor, prices are still reasonable with Nann between £2-3 and the dishes from £7 and up. My korma was £9. I look forward to returning and would recommend the place for anyone who would like a nice curry in a nice setting.
