Seriously yum! When you have a late night meeting on Skype and no food in the house and a stomach…read morethat is grumbling like it hasn't been fed in days I would suggest turning to The Golden Bowl (of joy and takeaway food!). I have to say that my crunching through prawn crackers and eating so much I think I'm going to thrown up was all part of this 5 star experience. This Chinese is dirty, but the veggies are fresh, the rice greasy and the delivery prompt. Can't really beat that now can you?!

While I am still on…read morethe fence when it comes to these slightly soulless and eerily chair-less establishments, I am very firmly pro Americanized/Anglicanised Chinese food served straight-up in under 10 minutes flat. Greasy and hot, there is nothing that can beat a 5 quid plastic lunchbox of noodles stir fried with fresh veggies. I had a massive craving and Dalston has no love for Chinese food. This hit the spot. Plus the price is right and the speedy service is convenient, complete with good packing of the food into portable containers. The breakdown: Wonton soup: good but slightly small balls with a plain flavor. The broth was less than aromatic and lacked any kind of concentrated flavor, tasting rather watered down. Chicken noodle soup: rather lackluster as it used the same type of stock and the noodles were short vermicelli though there was a good amount of cut strips of chicken for the small size of the bowl Hot and Sour Soup: good mix of hot and sour and a hearty, thick mixture made busy with lots of stewed down ingredients and generous amount of tofu, mushroom, and egg. A bit inconsistent in terms of ingredients as the first time I ate it there was no visible seafood in it but two days later it had lots of mini shrimp (which I am not a fan of and is pretty unconventional as far as hot and sour soup goes) Shredded Duck Chow Mein: quite a decent amount of duck with a subdued overall flavor and a generous portion. I finished it for lunch the next day Sweet and Sour Hong Kong Chicken: fairly average, crunchy texture and with enough sauce to coat any accompanying rice I was not a fan of the woman at the front taking order who was rather terse and made no effort at any kind of eye contact. I was surprised when she noticed that I came in and added something to my original order. She shooed me out saying my food was not ready yet before I could open my mouth to add another entree. So that was less than good customer service. Otherwise, a decent place to get some food the go, but not open before 5pm unfortunately!

The rice was pleasantly spicy hot and was very nice with some of the curry sauce poured over it. The thick crispy chips had an unusual aniseed flavour, again very nice, which went down very well when dipped in the rest of the curry sauce. I recommend this takeaway, especially if you order what I had.

This is one of *those* Chinese takeaways. It seems to do a very brisk trade, and probably satisfies quite a few people's palates, but essentially it is third rate food they are serving. There aren't many others in the area, so I think this partly explains it's success, as it's not that cheap - say £5.40ish for the cheapest full meal, a sweet and sour dish with rice. For £4 you can get chicken or pork balls in batter with sweet and sour sauce. The sweet and sour sauce isn't good. I'll forgive some pretty bad sweet and sour sauces - if it's sweet, and it's sour, it will usually do, but this one is about level with a regular supermarket ready meal. It's got a strange taste to it, that's not quite right. I've tried about 5 different dishes - they were all at a similar level. The best was peking duck with pancakes and plum sauce - it was pretty good, nothing wrong with it. The staff are nice - always polite and friendly, even though they are often dealing with drunks and the wandering winos who stumble along Kingsland Road. In conclusion - if you know what good Chinese is, and that's what you want, look elsewhere. If you're not too fussy and just want something tasty with rice, then go ahead. I still order from here, but mainly because it's my local.

In the…read morerun up to the New Year and in the drag after Christmas, my flatmate and I decided to get some class and actually have dinner out rather than getting a take away and munching loudly in font of the TV. We walked down the street (Church street) and pondered our choices, after realising that between us we had eaten in all of them apart from this one, decided to try Haikksun - and what a gem of a place it is. Unfortunately even though I did enjoy myself I have tp give it just 2 stars. The food was nice but nothing that special, the service was slow and the bill was really expensive and without a breakdown so we couldn't understand why. But I still like this place, it had a nice atmosphere that was friendly and they even put the little heaters on at the back for us to keep us warm. Li, the waitress was full on entertainment. She slopped the wine into our glasses (and onto our table!) and then entertained us with tales of her shopping troubles, we even swapped numbers with her! Really friendly if a little useless but you have to want this - don't go there expecting a quite meal. For some reason I will definitely be going back there again soon.

Wrong assumption. First of all we were told to wait in the lobby for about 5 minutes although the place was almost empty. The menu wasn't very clear. Some dishes are just named special noodles or fried rice noodles singapore style but you wouldn't find small print explaining what they contain, not even information whether they're vegetarian or not. Plus about one third of the dishes from the menu were not available. We had to wait 20-25 minutes for our food to come, but probably this is what happens when you have one man to wait, serve the take-aways, answer the phones and serve the bar. The food arrived just warm and one of us got the wrong dish (maybe the waiter overheard him asking what the sizzling beef will be and he thought whatever he brings, the customer will take it for granted) . My noodles with mixed vegetables weren't much different from the plain ones the only difference was a few bits of tasteless veg here and there plus bamboo that was as hard as wood. The stir fried beancurd with ginger and spring onion was very good and the sizzling dish in the end was pretty tasty as well (although I just tried the veg and sauce). The sizes of the portions were OK-ish, but considering our hunger, it wasn't enough to make us feel satiated.

Seaweed can sometimes be hit and miss, not always the same nice texture. Duck and noodles are amazing, decent amount of both. Seaweed for over a fiver? The two big spring rolls were usually a bargain but now not worth it. A tenner if I ordered the duck and noodles again. I'm gutted as I did order fairly often despite it already being a bit dear, but there is no chance at those prices.

I was not a huge fan of the Pad Thai as is seemed very stuck together and almost re-heated in texture. Also it was not a very big portion. However, the Shredded Chilli Beef on rice and the King Prawn Sweet and Sour box meal were both quite good. And I can't speak highly enough about the roasted duck in black bean sauce on chow mein. Fabulous and a generous portion! Also, I have had the pho bo (beef) soup which was very good as well, with a good side portion of noodles, bean sprouts, and extra beef. The broth was very flavorful and rich as well.
