Sunday Roast today for two at noon and it did not disappoint! A welcoming gal took us to our table from the upstairs reception area to our table downstairs. The decor is classic and comfortable, not stuffy. And for all the food being cooked nearby, ventilation is excellent because we did not smell of roasted food when we left! We opted for the Three Beast Feast with a cocktail (delicious!) each and the cheese cauliflower. We especially liked the beef, pork crackling of the pork chop (the "eye" of the chop dried out, but still tasted nice), and the melt-in-your mouth lamb. Truly my favorite Sunday Roast I've had. The location is stellar, the service is awkward but kind, and the space is lovely. Being able to sit at the counter and watch them make the meats is just such a treat, and I cannot wait to come back for a meal that is not Sunday Roast. In addition to the typical Sunday Roast items, they have a few fun additional possibilities including goat cheese tacos and burnt end tacos which you should most definitely get while you're here! The mint sauce for the lamb, horseradish for the roast beef, and apple sauce for the pork are all great, but they also have a homemade chili sauce that you can ask for that goes splendidly on the cauliflower if you're feeling in the mood for something a bit spicy. Though my strong suggestion is do the goat cheese tacos over the cauliflower - they're to die for. The roast beef is my favorite of the meats followed by the Lamb, however my wife loved the Pork. Not hard to order all three - someone I talked to was not impressed with the chicken, but I don't eat much chicken to begin with. Cocktails are good and so is the coffee - dessert is even better! Smokiness is the name of the game at this restaurant. And, in the case of my friend and I... so is food poisoning. I came here after hearing some pretty rave reviews on Instagram- don't ask why I think they're trustworthy anymore- and despite several rather disappointing letdowns in the past, I thought I'd give this place a shot. I mean how hard is it to screw up Sunday Roast? Since there were two of us, I thought we would be spared having to sit at the counter, seeing as eating in such cramped conditions should only be saved for poor singles who have no one to come with them; that's usually me. But, no. I had to calmly- but firmly- ask them to seat us at a table, as I could barely fit my bag, let alone my friend. Though they weren't happy, they obliged. The actual servers were much nicer. However, a few mistakes were made, and my friend ended up getting the wrong dish. Having ordered the baby chicken, I was pleasantly surprised- only in the beginning- by the sheer enormity of the thing. However, a few bites in, both I and my friend noticed that it was pretty undercooked, to the point I was having trouble pulling it apart from the bone. The veggies were decidedly over-cooked, so you can imagine how this meal went down. The only decent parts of the whole dish were the Yorkshire Pudding and the sweet cabbage. My friend and I ordered just one cocktail each, given that we just wanted the experience to be over at that point; and let me tell you, those were also pretty underwhelming. The space was almost too loud and cramped to have a decent conversation, so this definitely isn't a place I'd recommend. Temper was a very interesting restaurant and overall I had a pretty good meal here. Temper specializes in Tapa's and the food is mostly all served as small plates. My colleagues and I were looking for a quick bite to eat after a busy day and most places couldn't get us in because of reservations, but Temper got us right in. When you walk in you first see a counter with a hostess. The you can either take the Lift or the stairs down to where the tables are. They have big long booths, tables and an open kitchen where you can see what they got cooking. The menu is very modern and the menu ranges from a wide selection of tapa's to a pretty large steak menu. We decided to just go with the Tapa's. As soon the our waiter came to take our drink orders I got some Aged Beef Nachos for the table. It was not nachos like I had expected, it was tortilla chips with a bowl of quesso with beef mixed in the cheese sauce. It was really good, but not really nachos. For my main dish I ordered 3 Wild Mushroom Tacos, Tossed Salad and the Smacked Cucumbers. All were pretty good except for the tossed salad. I thought I wanted some greens, but it was not tossed at all. I actually don't think their was any dressing on it at all. The tacos were interesting. 2 other people at my table also ordered the wild mushroom tacos, so instead of bringing out 3 plates they put them all on 1 big plate. That did not bother us as we are all friends. The Smacked Cucumbers were my favorite as they had a great pickle taste to them. They were heavenly! This place is not too expensive and the food quality is really good for what we pay. My friend has the cheeseburger taco and even though it did not look appetizing, she said it was really good and tasted pretty fresh! Overall I think this is a nice little restaurant in London Town! We had an unique and enjoyable experience. It was a really cozy chill atmosphere. We could relax from our trip while watching the cooks working on preparing our food. The service was very friendly. As French tourists we were pleasantly surprised to meet a French waiter who took the time to welcome us and explain the concept of the restaurant and gave us advice to guide our choice. We were not disappointed at all by the dishes that were so tasty and delicious. Although the side dish (gratin) was a bit too oily, the tacos were excellent and the meat was a real treat. We popped into Temper on a Saturday evening with no reservations and they were so accommodating, allowing us to take a table for a short stay between reservations. The staff was incredibly kind, especially our server who spent time explaining the menu and helping a vegetarian have a great experience. The loved the corn and the goat cheese dip. Every taco experience was beyond. The restaurant is very loud and hearing your partner across the table is difficult, but well worth the visit. read more

I'm not sure why the ratings are so low on Temper? This has to be one of my current favs! The restaurant itself is very spacious and the best slots are at the bar around the central cooking area. The staff are attentive and knowledgable around their broad Mezcal list and advise well and are passionate about the menu. The cheese burger taco we had was well cooked and tasty. However to be perfectly honest I would seriously consider going all in and just grabbing a bunch of mains and sides. This is where it's at! The Argentinian sausage, the smoked goat and pork carnitas in particular are to die for. For side the grilled Hispi is left field and refreshing - perfect for cutting through the richness. Wash all that down with a selection from their very well rounded wine list (mid range online with the restaurant pricing) - we had a bottle of Californian red. And you will leave happy. read more

One of Soho's current 'it' restaurants, buzzy, loud, atmospheric and rammed full off fun seeking people.  Having booked a table for 2 earlier in the day, we arrived at 8pm and were swiftly seated at the bar. An observant member of staff immediately noticed that we looked somewhat uncomfortable at the bar, which was clearly not designed for 6ft tall overweight individuals! We were reseated again in moments and were most impressed by our attentive waitress.  Our starter arrived quickly but our mains were delayed for over an hour, very strange as many other tables were being served. The taco starter was somewhat diminutive but the flavours were all fresh and brimming with flavour. The same could be said for our mains, beef, goat and lamb but a real shame about the long wait.  A good night out and I'd go again, hopefully the overall service would be better next time! read more

This place was on my radar for a while so while out in Soho my friend and I decided to try it and it was delicious (mind that we were starving so we might have been biased ) I love the atmosphere of the place it wasnt too busy and we got sit at the bar where we met the cool meat chef for the shift! So to the dishes we both opted for Sunday Roast: beef for me and lamb for my friend and both were delicious. I was really disappointed that they ran out of porchetta but I will come back! One of my favourites, this Mexican/steak restaurant is full of beautiful starters, mains, and desserts. From the Caramelised spicy corn to the gochujang butter cornbread, you must get one of their incredible starters. The mains are all wonderful; me and my girlfriend have had almost all of them at this point and can't find fault with any of them. To cap off the night, you must also try the brigadeiro cookie, one of the best desserts in London. It's one the pricey side of things but it's worth it; anything you get will be quality. Had a hankerin' to try Temper for some time now, and finally got a chance yesterday eve. A choice joint, which ill definitely return to, and a little wiser next time round as I sampled much of the menu. Upon entering Temper you're taken to the cavernous basement setting where you're nostrils are immediately assaulted with the smell of delicious smoked and grilled meats. Temper boasts a huge fire pit where they cook the bulk of their wares, from all the meats (beef, pork, goat, lamb, and a mixture of all the aforementioned burnt ends presented as a Thai-style larb), much of the sides, and homemade flat breads and tortillas. Of course I had to indulge in all of them meats and the burnt ends as well - well aware that fire cooking is an art, and not a science consistency can be tricky; that said, my sampling platter was as follows, the goat was outstanding and my favorite of the bunch, succulent, moist and a great mix of fat and meat. Beef was next, with excellent carmalized fat and rare chunks of meat. The pork and lamb were a little hit n' miss - some nicely rendered fat, but I found the meat of both a little dry for my taste, likely due to the finicky nature of open fire cooking. The burnt-ends larb is really more of an uber salty side or accompaniment rather than a dish, I wouldn't order it again. As for sides, the jalapeño and pesto burrata was the star of the show, the refreshing cheese and chilli providing a nice palate refresher for the heavy meats. Dessert was also a surprising highlight, with this cookie-dough-esque sweet topped with milk ice cream. Delicious, and I'm not a dessert man. Definitely worth a return visit. read more

Plus, it's lively crew makes for some great dinner entertainment. But I have to say that I was a bit disappointed in my actual meal. My barbecue beef had far too much fat for my taste. Plus, my appetizer (cheeseburger tacos) and Sunday roast accompaniments were far too salty and oily. I'm not too sure if that's how these dishes are always served. I just didn't enjoy the mouth feel very much. The oil actually pooled on both of my plates, because there was so much of it. The bits I did get that weren't greasy and salty were superb, however! I will definitely try visiting again, because I have to imagine my meal was an exception and not the rule. read more

You would be forgiven for thinking Temper is a laddish, loutish fad, what with the central fire pit and the unflinching emphasis on meat and more meat. You would be wrong, though. Temper is absolutely top notch dining. The Yelp label says "Latin American" which is true to an extent. Half the menu comes under the heading "tacos" and the half that doesn't comes served on a tortilla anyway. The digestif menu is exclusively populated with Mezcal, and the drams arrive in a little terra cotta dishes that are embossed with the word "Mexico" at the bottom, in case you had missed the hints. Despite all that, Temper is not chained to any particular cuisine. The sauce served alongside the steaks when we were there was kimchi-spiced bearnaise. There's a beautiful jhal muri. The pork larb is served with a generous helping of toasted rice powder, the authentic touch that many London Thai restaurants leave out. Thematic consistency is not a priority at Temper and I wouldn't change a thing. It's the best restaurant I've been to in 2017. read more

First things first, sit at the counter, that's where all the actions at! You can see all the meat being cooked on the open grills, which is a totally entertaining way to eat! The menu is meant for sharing, and the tacos are considered the apps-3small taco shells and a bowl of the meat or taco filling. The Scallop was way spicier than I expected that I tried a bite and couldn't eat much more. The crab taco had a bit too much sauce on it to taste the crab, so of the three different tacos I tried, I'd only recommend the Mushrooms, which were delicious. Then we went with 2 meats served over flatbread- Smoked goat, and Beef chili with bone marrow. Both of these were incredibly tasty and seasoned, so when they ask you if you want to add sauce, say no. If you want to enjoy the flavors of the meat, you don't need to smother it in one of the sauces. I came here the other day for a catch up dinner with 3 friends. It's a beautiful dining room (though in the basement), with a mix of counter dining (all of which is the size of The Barbary), a number of tables, and a few booths along the wall. We were seated at one of the tables in large, sturdy chairs, with plenty of space, similar to German Gymnasium, Galley, or 45 Jermyn Street where you feel like a real adult in such nice surroundings. If you're a larger group, I imagine you end up in the booths. The menu seems like a mix of Blacklock meets Breddos Tacos. We were recommended to get 2-3 tacos, 2-3 vegetable sides, and 200g of meat per person. No one explained the sauce and sprinkles bit, but you should order some of those as well (otherwise the meats are just served on plain flatbread). For tacos, we got the soy-cured beef and the crab & pickled onion pork skin. Both were very good, and come with 3 tacos, although we politely asked for a fourth so we could share. They're bite sized and more of an appetizer. The vegetable dishes came with the meat and I thought they were very special. In particular we loved the burrata with lime and jalapeno, the grilled corn with lamb fat béarnaise, and the beef fat potatoes that come as a gratin. As for the meats, we ordered all of them and then got seconds... I couldn't really tell which was which, since they didn't come with much of an explanation, but with the sauces and the flatbread it was great. To drink we had a few bottles of the Lama di Pietra from Italy. Everyone thought the food was great and we had a lovely time. read more

I'm glad I found this place as it was one of the best meals I had in London. The restaurant is quit new and modern with a large wood grill in the middle. Service was decent and the waitress was very friendly though I did sit with an empty drink for a while. I had 2 cocktails over the course of dinner and they were both delicious. I had the soy cured beef tacos to start. You get 2 small tacos with what is essentially soy cured beef tartare. I thought they were great. I then moved on to the burnt end thai larb. It wasn't a traditional larb but it was delicious; Sweet and spicy with a little kick but not too overpowering. I also got 100g of pork which I enjoyed. On my first bite a got a piece of the charred outside which had great smoky flavors but otherwise it was a bit bland. It definitely need a sauce so I'm glad i went with the msg ketchup which tasted like ketchup and parmesan. For a side I had the grilled corn with pop corn which was just ok. It was a bit dry and not really enjoyable. It was the only thing I didn't finish. Overall I really enjoyed temper. I'd love to go back on my next visit to London. They really are doing some great things with the giant grill and yet somehow the restaurant stays smoke free and clean. I highly recommend it. read more

The good : the smoked goat tacos are absolutely on point - taste, portion, price, presentation, I could keep going. My vegetarian friend said the veg option was similarly praiseworthy. The steak was good, I was expecting a more noticeable taste for 35 day dry aged but it was still very good. The beer selection was limited but I got what I wanted. The overall experience and ambience was on point as well. Everything I expected from having heard about this place in a YouTube video. I WAS going to give them at least 4 stars. The bad : nothing really but small things. I would offer an expanded beer selection - some of us lightweights would like a Newcastle or Stella option. I would also explore the possibility of having the chefs serve the meat directly to the customer sitting around the fire at least. Also, the beer could be colder, not a complaint but a suggestion. To be clear, the food is very high quality. The ugly : the reasons I reduced my rating and to be fair will visit again and change my rating IF it's a different experience. The 90 minute policy can be communicated more professionally and politely. Also, if that applies to everyone why don't you just put up a clearly visible sign? Or does it not apply to everyone (notice the hint)? They were in such a rush to get us out that I was asked if we'd like to get some quick dessert. To be fair, we ordered a starter, a main, a side and a second starter EACH. I had 3 drinks and my buddy had 5. Is that not enough to warrant a little extra time past 90 minutes? Almost all the tables were empty and there were many open seats around the fire. Even so, I was willing to give them the benefit of doubt that they were just forced into that policy because there might've been customers who don't spend much but occupy space which is not cool at all. Until I saw the last item on the bill the next day ... a service charge ... IF they'd been polite or professional, I wouldn't mind at all ... this place is mostly fair priced but the person who greeted us upstairs and the person who waited on us were not deserving at all. I dined in the main restaurant area and was pleased that my three guests and I sampled a reasonable portion of the menu. In short I'd return to Temper for the lovely wait staff and superb bar service, but not the food. For groups: a scam! - Do yourself a favour and stay away from this hipster wannabe-hotspot I booked this restaurant for a 15-people company dinner on Tuesday February 6 after having done quite a bit of research on London spots. It was recommended by Eater in their "top 38" for London and ranked #3 of Time Out's top 100. The reviews said the meat was sublime and that the reviewers were so full after the main course that they could barely eat dessert. The process of tweaking the set "feast menu" that they offer for groups at 55 pounds went smoothly enough, they did have a table for us when we arrived, the starter tacos were delicious, and the desserts were nice. However, that's all the positive things I can say. Service was a disaster. Despite knowing when we were supposed to arrive and having agreed on a set menu, it took more than 45 minutes from sitting down until we got our starters. Trying to order drinks was hopeless most of the time. And the attitude of the head server and the manager on duty was deplorable, but I will explain that later. The tacos we were served as starters were served with less mini-tortillas than the people we were on the table, so people just had to eat the filling with their fork. But the worst thing was the main course: three different meats that were supposed to be a "feast" and were anything but. Quantity per person was ridiculously small - at one end of the table they left a plate (that was not piled up) for 7 people! It probably had enough meat for 4, if that, lukewarm, and actually nothing special taste-wise, rather bland. When they posed that plate on the table I asked the server whether they were bringing more meat because that was not enough (each person on that side got the equivalent of two bites of each of the three meats), and he said he'd check with the chef and get back to us. We all wished afterwards that we had taken pictures of that ridiculous plate of meat to be able to share them here. Ten minutes later he came back and said that what we'd been served was the weight of meat we were supposed to have and that if we wanted more we'd have to pay for it. That was the first we heard about a weight limit on the main course meat, which is in and of itself not an issue, but we said that whatever that limit was (he didn't want to tell us), what we had was not enough meat per person, something had to have gone wrong! We asked him to get the on-duty manager and he said it was himself, just great. We asked him to fix the situation and check again with the chef, and he didn't come back until 20 minutes later to ask: "is everything ok?" as if nothing had happened. Really? I told him to ask the side of the table with one plate per 7 people if they had eaten enough and he didn't want to do it. The third time I told him, he asked, and people said they were still hungry. It didn't matter, since he didn't budge. And he left again. After 5 more minutes an equally hopeless girl came over, saying she was indeed the on-duty manager and that the other guy was only the head server. That the weight of meat on the main course per person was 180g and that we had gotten that, when there was no way that infamous 7-people plate had 1.26kg of meat on it. At that point, the dinner and fantastic mood we'd arrived in had been ruined for all of us. We kept discussing with her, but she just kept parroting the same words over and over. We (my boss, a Marketing Senior Vice President, sitting next to me talking to her, and myself, an event manager with over 10 years' experience in hospitality) had never run into such an incompetent restaurant responsible and gave up and requested to get the desserts brought over so that at least people would stop being hungry. To top it off, out of the four sauces we'd negotiated to have together with the meat when organising the set menu, only two were ever brought over, and there was only one tiny saucer of each of the two to be shared along the 15-people table: a few people ate their lukewarm bland two bites of meat with no sauce whatsoever. In the end she brought two extra desserts and removed the service charge (the least she could do considering the fiasco), but the night and the restaurant had already been labelled a disaster. We could only count ourselves lucky that it wasn't customers we'd brought here but only our own colleagues. Our point of view is that they've gotten too successful for their own good and that they're squeezing the cow for as much as they can before people move on to the next thing, not caring what experience their customers have in the meantime.
