The servers and bartenders were super welcoming and provided the type of welcome that makes you smile. As an American I had to see what a Texas BBQ joint was like in the UK. The brisket was very delicious and juicy, but like all beef in the UK, very expensive and very small portions. Not very Texas, but I get it. The ribs were just as good and it felt like more value. The biggest difference was in the sides. Vinegar in London is not like in Texas. The potato salad was not what I expected, and the pickle packed a lot more punch. But the Fries were superb, as was the chili. We enjoyed the cornbread, but it was nothing extraordinary. All in all, this is a great place, awesome vibe, and I most likely will not revisit this place the next time I'm in London but I would recommend it to others. read more

We went to Texas Joes for our works Christmas Party and the whole experience was wonderful. Jenn was fantastic, very helpful and accommodating to our ever changing needs. The food was beyond amazing ( I will be dreaming of the brisket for a long time to come) and the cocktails were delicious! Texas Joe's is an absolute gem! For an American like me (and it seemed several other customers in there when I went), it's like finding a hidden piece of home. Very good place for American BBQ. I shared some Pork Ribs, Beef Brisket and Mutton Shoulder. The Pork Ribs and Mutton Shoulder my favorites, the former because they were so tender that they literally fell off the bones while the latter because of the decisive taste of the meat. The only problem in all three dishes was the extra salt put on the meat. Meat was tasty and not blend at all, it really didn't need any extra salt and the bites with the extra-salt were overly salty, overpowering the meat and ruining it. I was at the Shard with my partner and we were looking for a place for lunch. I checked Yelp and saw this place and we decided to give it a shot. I am very happy we did, because it has some of the best barbecue I have ever eaten. I got the pork sandwich and a side of brisket chili, and shared a plate of fries. The pork was absolute perfection, so flavorful and delicious that I didn't even need the sauce (served on the side). The brisket chili had a definite, spicy kick (I love things on the spicy side, but it may be too spicy for some). The fries were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Everyone working there was very friendly and welcoming, and the service was fast and efficient. It has only been a few hours since I ate there, and I am already anxious to visit again to try the other items on the menu! read more

Yum yum yum! I might be American by birth but the part I'm from has no barbeque at all. It's actually since living in London the past 15-20 years that I've tried lots of BBQ, including the chains and pop ups and even brisket from Franklin Barbeque (from Austin, TX) at Meatopia. My meal today at Texas Joe's was right up there in the top few. I had a brisket sandwich and was a bit dissapointed that it came pulled - I wanted to see the smoke ring. But the sandwich was £10 (and the brisket plate was £16) and to be honest, it didn't matter one bit as it was delicious. There were lovely bits of the ends and the flavour was great. The bun was a bit firm but it meant it held up to the meat (and the bbq sauce served on the side). I found the slaw and onions to be a bit sharp on the side, but paired with the rich meat, it made perfect sense. We shared 2 sides - mac & cheese and bacon wrapped stuffed jalapenos. Both were really nice but be careful of the jalapeno as it got a bit spicy by the stem! I was stuffed but really wanted pie, so got a slice of pecan to go. It is honestly the best pecan pie I've had in London and I highly recommend it. A meal here isn't cheap but it sure was tasty, and the staff are friendly. We spent £50 for 2 sandwiches, 2 cokes, 2 sides, and a slice of pie. Worth it, though. read more

"Texas" BBQ in London? As a fellow Texan and BBQ lover, you can understand why I was a bit skeptical when I first saw Texas Joe's appear one day on my walk home from work. I stopped to check out the place and the menu and was greeted by a man in full cowboy gear. Turns out it was Joe himself! He was enthusiastic and explained he was picky about his BBQ (spoken like a true Texan). I told him I would be sure to come back. We came back to give it a try on Friday night and were immediately seated. The menu is creatively presented on a old newspaper and had all the regular fixins' you'd expect at a proper BBQ joint - Beef (brisket or short rib); chicken (wings, thighs, breast); pork; and most importantly the sides (thank God for some mac & cheese)! There were some unique items like Mutton and tacos that made this menu stand out. We ordered our Lone Star beer, brisket, pork tacos, and Mac & cheese to share and were not disappointed. Brisket was pretty high up there with other Briskets I've had at home - lean yet extremely tender! And Mac & cheese is the best you'll find on this side of the pond. As a born and raised Texan, I was extremely skeptical about this place. We actually visited out of curiosity, to see what the English take on bbq was. No one does bbq like we do, and just about every single "Texan" meal i've had outside of Texas (apart from Whataburger) had been a disappointment. Until Texas Joe's. Everything we tried was juicy, delicious, and almost felt like biting into the friendly state. Every aspect of our experience was delightful. One word. BRISKET! After years of sampling my fair share of barbecue food, I have found the best brisket I have ever eaten in London! Moist, juicy, melts in your mouth brisket! You can tell it has been cooked slowly for many hours. It has a great smokey taste. I can almost taste it as I write this review! No need for any bbq sauce at this place! My friend and I actually intended to visit the bar next door (The Flying Saloon), which is part of Texas Joes, but it is quite a small bar and there was a large group/party in there, so we thought we would sit in the restaurant and have cocktails there instead. That changed when we saw the menu. We couldn't leave without sampling the food. We decided to share some dishes, we had brisket, lamb tacos & mac and cheese. The waitress commended us on our good choice of menu choices, so I was so excited for the food to come out. When it came and I tasted that brisket, nothing else mattered! 10/10! The lamb tacos were good, but had too much salsa & pickle topping for me, so it overpowered the meat a bit. The Mac and cheese was really good, I couldn't put it down and the brisket is what is going to get me going back again and again. The staff were really friendly and the restaurant has a great vibe to it. They have a Cadillac parked out the front and you are greeted by the owner in his cowboy hat, it's all just perfect. This is the best BBQ in London, hands down. Don't take my word for it though. Go in and have the brisket, or even better, burnt ends sandwich if they have it. It is good quality meat that's properly smoked. And you'd be surprised how hard that is to find outside of the lower 48. I know, because I've been unlucky enough to eat lots of bad BBQ across London, and around the world. It's similar to getting proper pancakes - it becomes a quest to find the right spot. Came here for the smoked meats and was very impressed by the beef brisket. Also had some of my boyfriend's mutton tacos and they were super good, definitely getting that next time. However, although smoked meat was the main reason we came, I was blown away by their carbs! The fries, corn bread were so good but the best was no doubt the Mac and Cheese which was just perfect. Goodness, I could have had a side of that all to myself and would come just for that! Relaxing ambience with nice Hipster/American diner style deco. Holy moly this was good. I thought I'd had some good barbecue in London since there seems to be a lot of places popping up these days (including some places that claim to do barbecue whereas it's just grilled food with sauce dumped on top). I was pleased that for a new place, in not exactly a prime location, it was quite busy - we came at the end of the Friday lunch rush I think. But still very happy to see a busy place when I'm trying it out for the first time. We came as a duo, since we both wanted to try the place out but the prices were a little bit steep for a lunchtime jaunt for one person. All in all, it came to about £50 including a 12.5% service charge automatically added, which is more than I'd normally spend on a lunch but I would probably happily spend as much again to come back here - although I'd order less sides, since I was so stuffed we couldn't finish all our food. So we had the brisket sandwiches, which were fab. The rolls weren't some brioche nonsense which takes a drop of sauce and turns into instant mush, instead they were good decent rolls that could stand up to the sauce yet weren't some dense nonsense. They were obviously sourced for the restaurant and weren't some random purchase from the wholesalers that week. The brisket on the sandwich was pulled and my god - even though it was pulled it was the best brisket I've ever had. Being Texas style, this wasn't the sort of place where you dump extra sauce on it - which was fine, as this really didn't need anything to obscure the meaty flavour being presented. For sides, we had the mac and cheese, which was good - I liked the use of truffle oil in it, although the fact that the noodles were chopped up really small was pretty odd. I'd rather have had normal size macaroni that these little almost cubes of pasta. The in-house made jalapeno poppers were awesome. I've had house made ones before at Sticky Fingers and they were god awful - nasty raw things. This was what those should have been - perfectly cooked bacon wrapped around the outside, the pepper was properly cooked and a tasty flavoured cream cheese filling. Texas Joe's nails it for me. I'm close to giving Texas Joe's five-stars and have faith it will get there...I should probably keep going just to make sure. I should also say I'm biased in my reviews of BBQ joints as I intentionally seek out new ones because I miss good 'merican BBQ after living abroad for so long. New places will always get mixed reviews, but I also try to keep it in perspective what kind of restaurant I'm going to...it's a slow smoked meat joint, which means, the emphasis is going to be on preparation and quality of meat and not necessarily on fast food delivery and huge portions. With that said, I also wouldn't be opposed to bigger portions of the brisket and the ribs given the cost associated. However, I have still come away from Texas Joe's twice now absolutely stuffed and content because I also got the starters and sides to go with it. The chili mac and cheese is awesome (especially with a bit of the hot hot sauce), the stuffed jalapeno poppers are definitely better than your average popper in London, and I was really pleased with the brisket nachos last week. The ribs weren't the star of the show for me yet, but the brisket main was great and the brisket tacos really nailed it for me. It's not an inexpensive meal and you won't get huge portions of your mains, but I haven't had a bad bite at Texas Joe's in either of my first visits. Definitely, definitely give it a shot. And say hi to Texas Joe, he's real and I found him to be super welcoming. And pick up some jerky on your way out, that extended my Texas Joe's joy. read more

Almost didn't want to review this place - it's that fine line between hoping a favorite joint doesn't get too busy, hip, and crowded or fearing it may not get enough traffic that it'll go outta business. Called to reserve 45 minutes before heading to Texas Joe's with a crew of 9 during off-hours in a Saturday ('round about 5pm) and luckily Joe's was able to accommodate us in the bar area - which is more cozy and to my taste. The roadhouse vibe, with the oh-so-tastefully curated playlists with the likes Willie Nelson and Lowell Fulsom perfectly suits the joint. Speaking of taste, everything we ordered was outstanding - from the brisket (get a double helping, best I've heard this side of the ocean), chicken thighs (so peppery!), pork ribs (not cut, but so juicy and succulent), LAMB ribs (never had these before, excellent) through to the sides (take sweet potato fries over regular), cornbread, mac n cheese, not a miss! Great selection of tequilas, bourbons and beers and better than usual London prices, as well as some clever and classy cocktails if that's your thing. Our waitress was funny and quick, attentive without being too in-your-face. Great selection of PIES, including apple, caramel apple, cherry (for the agent Cooper or Warrant in you), and of course pecan - my one qualm/quip And hope-for-improvement came here - my apple pie wasn't warm enough! Not what I was expecting in London. Found the restaurant on Yelp, and was really glad that we decided to go. Just walking in is enough to make get your mouth watering. There were a lot of great looking options on the menu, and we ended up ordering the brisket, pork ribs, and pork shoulder. Everything was delicious and the servings were generous. My wife decided to get a slice of apple pie to go, and was very happy that she did. To top it off, the service was great. I hope that I get back to London soon so that I can go back again. read more

Came here last night having cast around on Yelp for somewhere to eat following a few cocktails. It's an unprepossessing and basic place with wooden tables and chairs, and the food did not change that. We got there just before 9pm. It was very quiet, and one of the servers said it must be because it was the Easter weekend, as they would expect to be much busier on a Saturday night. And there the friendliness ended. The servers could not have been less interested in the punters if they tried. They were quite desperate to get us out of there as fast as they could and it showed. I would give zero stars for service. As to the food, we sought the server's advice and she told us: "it's all in the menu". Not even a semblance of helpfulness. So we ordered the pork ribs, the brisket and the pork shoulder, with mac n' cheese. The ribs were extremely good. The brisket and shoulder were dry and the mac n'cheese was ok. When we were the last table (at 9.30pm) we were hassled every few minutes to have our food taken away or packaged. Eventually we took a doggy bag, When we opened it the next day, everything had been just slung into a box in a completely unappetising way, and it all went straight in the bin. What a horrible experience, and for £70 it didn't come cheap. Avoid. read more

Coming from Texas, I have different expectations from eating amazing BBQ back home. Saying that, I really enjoyed the Texas themed laid back ambiance. It does really feel like a Texas BBQ spot. I enjoyed eating the rips, the meat was very tender it came off the bone quite easily. I have to say they make chili right, Texas style, bean-less! Apart from the tasty food, there's something about their pickles (gerkins) that make me want more. Overall, pretty good spot considering you will be thousands miles away from real Texas BBQ that costs a quarter of the prices here. It's definitely worth dining at and pigging out. Best BBQ I have had in London! Tender and juicy pieces of meat, perfectly cooked and seasoned. I had beef brisket and mutton shoulder which were both delicious. The meat portions are reasonable for the price but the sides are simply enormous: sweet potatoes for £4 could easily feed four people and bone marrow for £5 had three huge bones. Stop what you're doing and make this your go-to barbeque restaurant ASAP! Fantastic food (excellent brisket, amazing cornbread); it feels like you've been transported directly to Texas both in food style (slow smoked brisket) and decor (plenty of cattle horns and Texan flags). May successfully bring people a tiny bit farther off of Bermondsey Street and get more foot traffic through the Snowsfields area too. Only minor qualm was that it was on the high end price-wise (16 for a platter with only a side of slaw and a piece of bread), but not eye-poppingly high for London. read more

Pretty decent BBQ in the heart on London. This place would not be able to compete with the better BBQ places in Texas, Memphis, Kansas city etc, but to get you fix of American food in American portions it's not bad. The short rib is quite good. Very juicy and tender but did not carry much smoke. The brisket had a bit more smoke but the meat was dry. If you are missing BBQ, it's pretty good. read more
