Joyride is legit Detroit style pizza. I may still be partial to square pie guys, but joyride is still a great substitute. My go to is the green goddess that has a swirl of ricotta on top. Great pizza. I got the buffalo pizza and it was deep dish. I really liked the crust and sauce ratio. The one thing I will say is the buffalo has a ton of buffalo sauce, so be ready for a kick of flavor because I didn't expect it to be drenched the way it was, but it was really good and I would definitely get the pizza again. I know my pizzas as I grew up eating pizza on the East Coast and also ate my way thru a lot NYC pizzas all through my late 20s and 30s, so when I tell you a slice is good or bad, its from years of eating some of the best pizzas in the US. This place failed me on so many levels and I absolutely hate writing bad reviews but this place just did not live up to even a random $1.50 slice you can find anywhere in NYC. After having a snack of raw oysters nearby, I wanted a nice hearty slice of pizza and when Yelp pulled this place up for me, I was quite excited. A girlfriend of mine introduced me to some really good Detroit style pizza, so I was looking forward to trying this place out. I came in a little after 7:30pm and nary a soul in here, which should have been a sign. The woman who rung me up was nice but it was clear she couldn't understand much English, so when I needed a paper copy of my receipt, she had to call in another worker for help. I waited about 15 min for my order and then it was ready. I took it back to the hotel I was staying at and was ready to enjoy a good slice. Unfortunately, it wasnt very good. Besides the looks of the pizza, nothing else really passed. The toppings had no flavor, crust was also bland. The personal pan was super soggy, which is exactly how I HATE my pizzas. And for the price, which was close to $20 with tax and tip, it was just lousy. A pie this size shouldn't be more than $10, and also the taste just wasn't there. Needless to say, I won't be back. Casual ambiance with lots of indoor and scenic outdoor seating and very friendly service! I definitely came at the right time because there was no wait so my order came out fast. I tried the sausage and shrooms personal pizza, which was two slices. The pizza had a lot going for it: crust was crispy and the sauce was flavorful. Overall, it was definitely tasty and satisfying. But I had a hard time justifying the price. It was $16 + tax (~$18) for two medium-ish slices, which felt a bit steep for what I received. While the quality was there, I was expecting something more unique or standout in terms of flavor at that price. The portion size was also a little smaller than I had hoped. Well on a recent trip to SF,I found myself with some time to kill before my event started,after coming down from Sacramento and skipping breakfast,I was ready to eat when I got to the Ferry Building area.After looking around a bit,I saw a few of my favorite spots at the Ferry Building but I also saw a new spot,at least for me and I had to try it-I walked over to JoyRide Pizza to give them a try. No car to speak of on this trip,so parking not an issue but for others who do drive,this location is not for people in cars,this is for people who are walking up and down the piers as a walk in spot. I took a look at the menu and since there were 3 of us I decided to go with a large Meatzza($29.00) and a small Supreme($16.00)This place features Detroit-Style Pizza,so even though 2 of us in the party are pretty big eaters,this style pizza truly goes a long way,it's so dense and heavy. So when the pizza arrived I quickly realized mistakes were made,this was way too much pizza for us and since we had no means to bring it with us because the event we were going to had a "No Food" policy,I thought we're in trouble.Also I realized our 2 pizzas were very similar and with all the great options available to order,I should've had a bit more creativity when ordering. That being said-that pizza was dynamite-they have damn near perfected the Detroit-Style pizza recipe right here at this spot located in one of the most touristy spots in the city-that's rare,most of these spots located in touristy spots just mail it in because they know the customers are coming regardless,but not these guys,their product is pretty top notch-the flavors,the cheese,the seasonings,the sauce-they didn't miss a box,checked em all.I was highly impressed. We found ourselves at the Ferry Building looking for food, but wandered just outside instead and found this spot. We've walked by it lots of time - just never stopped in until now. I got the Sweet Bianca with fig jam not knowing what to expect. I have to say it was the most unconventionally delicious pizza I've ever had. We were on our way to catch our ferry but were super hungry. We went through the Ferry Building and nothing got us super excited. We went down the whole hallway and exited the building. We turned around and my son saw Joyride Pizza at the opposite end from where we were. We had 35 minutes to our ferry departure. The server at the counter said it would take 7-8 minutes. Of course, we expected the price to be a little inflated. The personal pizza was $16 and it was about 3" x 8". We ended up sharing a large one for $26 (8" x 10"). We ordered a pepperoni pizza and ended up waiting about 15 minutes. We had plenty of time to hustle to the ferry ramp. The pizza was hot and different from how I've eaten pizza before. The sauce was spread on TOP of the cheese and pepperoni. It made for a much more messy-looking pizza, but it wasn't hard to eat. It was very tasty, though I wish there had been more pepperoni on top. With how much I've seen pizzas costing recently (just spent $100 for two pizzas at another spot recently), a whole Detroit pizza for under $10 is a steal. Pizzas are random and I ended up with a classic "the cheese" as well as their pepperoni "yolo roni pepperoni". For TooGoodToGo, the pizzas are typically at room temp but are easy to take back home and reheat in the oven. Pizza is lighter due to the focaccia dough. I've had the pepperoni before and it comes generously loaded with these small pepperonis which curl up and have great flavor. The cheese on the cheese pizza was high quality Wisconsin brick cheese but I do wish there was a little more marina sauced on top of the pizza for some added moisture. read more

This last weekend we enjoyed lunch at joyride pizza next to the Ferry building. It was much less crowded there than the bustling Ferry building. The store is not too large but there are a few tables inside and a few tables outside. They specialize in Detroit style pizza. We got a personal sized pizza each. Each personal sized pizza comes with four slices. We got the mushroom and sausage pizza and the all veggies pizza. The tomato sauce on the sausage and mushroom pizza was absolutely amazing. The sauce was perfectly balanced between sweet and tart and had such great flavor of tomatoes. The pizza crust was perfectly crispy and had such a great texture. We gobbled up the pizza crust so quickly. There is only one restroom so it always seems to be filled. The cashier was nice and helpful. Ever since moving out of SF 2 years ago, I have been missing Detroit style pizza. There aren't too many, if any, in LA. I was in SF for a day trip and made it my mission to get Joyride Pizza. I love that they opened a location at the Ferry Building. It's a great spot. There is limited seating indoors and plenty outdoors. We ordered the 'Eat Your Veggies' and 'Supreme'. We ordered the 6 slices for 'Supreme' but they accidentally made the order wrong and corrected it immediately. Both pizzas were good but I preferred the veggie one. I felt the price point was far too expensive for the overall size and just was not a good value in general. I would classify this as a novelty meal for tourists, and not a go to! I can only give this a 2 1/2 to 3 stars at best. One pizza 7.5-inch x 9.5-inch will barely feed two people. This location is great! It is right there by the water and next to the Ferry Building. It is cozy and convenient for those who work within walking distance from the Financial District. The young people who work there are very nice and accommodating. I was planning to take my pizza to go, but after ordering the food, I changed my mind and decided to have it sitting by the counter. While my food was getting ready, I started reading about how the founders succeeded in growing the business fast despite the challenges of the pandemic. The Jacobs brothers specialize in Detroit-style pizza, known for its rectangular shape, thick crust, and caramelized edges. They have operated Samovar Tea Lounges since 2002 and had to change their business model when the pandemic severely impacted their tea business. Inspired by a friend opening a pizza shop, they converted their Valencia Street tea lounge into the first Joyride Pizza location in 2021. With Alastair Hannmann, formerly of Tony's Pizza, they began selling Detroit-style pizza. Their pizzas are visually appealing, with toppings like ricotta, arugula, and pesto. The holidays are here and the City is alive with December spirit! Over the weekend we went to the Ferry building on Saturday for the Farmer's Market and took note of a few new vendor/restaurant openings within and surrounding the building..one of those being Joyride Pizza! Wanting to introduce Detroit Style pizza to my family and grab a snack before heading to Union Square, we ordered a few slices and a few beers on-tap: cheese (topped with a strip of house made Marina), the Sweet Bianca (essentially a cheese slice topped with a dollop of ricotta and fig jam), and the Satisfying Sausage & Shrooms (this one you have to order as 2-slices). Looks like outside of their menu you can also build-your-own and they do offer gluten-free, dairy-free, plant-based options as well. Slices are a bit more pricey than I'm used to, but I figured crossing the bridge would mean opening the wallet a bit more for afternoon yummies and quality toppings. I've had Joyride before at Gilman Brewing in Berkeley, but haven't been to their own brick-and-mortar until this moment. Love how the windows are panned with beautiful slices almost like a candy store for outside traffic, just a fresh pizza version for City travelers :) Great staff, fun ambience, I think I'm just more of a traditional, NY slice kinda gal. Slices were light and airy, family loved trying something new and being East Coasters themselves, now have something to write home about. Our office had our holiday gathering at this JoyRide Pizza location. This location doesn't take reservations but as a one time courtesy they allowed our group of 15 to be seated in the tables across from the kitchen. We found the tables to be comfortable and perfect for our group. But more than that it was the Customer Service from the hostess autumn and the food prepared by the chefs in the kitchen that made this experience, the most memorable. A lot of us ordered the sausage and mushroom pizza and the chicken with bacon and ranch pizza. Both were delicious, but it was the tater tots with homemade gremolata sauce that stole the show. They were fantastic. Definitely give Joyride pizza a try. There are many locations in San Francisco and some in the East Bay if I'm not mistaken. This perfect location, just north of the Ferry Building, has been a variety of coffee shops and restaurants since the 90s when I moved here. Joyride Pizza makes delicious Detroit style pizza! And our slices were delicious -- classic Detroit style with almost caramelized edges. My "Sweet Heat" slice should have had way more heat and a bit less sweet. The price for the half dozen wings rang up $2 higher than the posted menu, and staff were curt when I asked a question regarding my choice. Despite a mostly empty dining room, we waited nearly 20 minutes for food with tables left dirty, and another customer had to come back in to wait very long for a single item with little to no acknowledgement from staff.
