What a wonderful way to end the evening. I loved this place! When walking in, the young ladies greet you with a smile. This was my first time to visit, and one of the young ladies went over some of the things they offer. They have a beautiful display of macarons, which was simply stunning. My choices: Pistachio (2), Honey & Lavender, Lemon, Almond, Italian Cream - My goodness, they were so good. The moment you bit into each one, you knew exactly what it was. You could be wearing a blindfold and would still be able to identify the flavors; they didn't miss a beat. In particular, the almond and pistachio were my favorites. The small bits of nuts added to the tasty bliss. They also have macaron ice cream sandwiches/ice cream; they all looked so good. My friend had the buttered pecan sandwich; you could see the chunks of pecans in the ice cream, which reminded me of pralines. I wanted to buy one to take home, but it would have been a puddle of ice cream by the time I made it home. On a sun day there is nothing better than stopping by Joy and getting one of their ice cream sandwiches. They are the perfect size and such amazing flavors combined with the cookies being macarons. I had a scoop of the cookie dough which had cookie dough from a variety of different cookies and the scoop was generous. Very creamy and tasty. Such a simple but pretty little shop! The ladies working were lovely. I purchased the smallest tiered tower (around 100$). I asked for a least one of each and then add the specialties as all the extra. Super sad to realize they gave me a LOT of lavender (which is kind of gross, maybe that's why) and only one of each specialty cookies. Alright y'all, I'm about to say something that may be very controversial. After just getting back from Paris and then trying the macarons from JOY..... I have to admit that I like these better. I KNOW! The ones I had at Laduree in France were beautiful like JOY's, but much more subtle in flavor. These pack a punch and I mean that in the best way. If you claim that your macaron is lemon, then I expect to taste it and here you most certainly will. They also offer flavors you would never find overseas such as Mexican hot chocolate and Butter Pecan (to name a few). I love that they do seasonal ones as well like gingerbread, and you can even have a glass of champagne while you enjoy them! Can I move in? Better yet is that they don't stop at just macarons, oh no. They have macaron ice cream sandwiches too. Let that sink in for a moment if you would. Macarons and ice cream together as one in flavors like cereal milk (in which they roll one side in fruity pebbles!) and Vietnamese cinnamon. Best of all is that you even get rewarded for treating yourself here. If you sign up for their free rewards program (which takes all of 2 seconds), you earn a point for every dollar that you spend and can then redeem those points for free macarons, coffee, and tea! I feel like I am using a lot of exclamation points in this review, but discovering this store has been very exciting for me you guys. With the holidays right around the corner, you should consider gifting these to the family and friends on your list that you never quite know what to get. I've been to JOY a couple of times and never ran into the problem I had today.... all my macarons were hard, tough, and extremely chewy. It was probably the worst set of macaroons I've ever had. I was busy thinking about which flavors to pick out next but my bf was quick to observe that the lady was "cherry picking" and felt some of the macarons prior to placing it in our box. I was unaware of this, but it now makes sense because our batch was absolutely terrible. The place had a very vibrant atmosphere, and I was immediately helped when I came in. They had an assortment of macarons and macaron ice cream sandwiches - the 3 flavors that stuck out to me was vanilla, strawberry coconut, and lavender. I was not disappointed! I highly recommend the Strawberry Coconut flavor! It had such an unique and addicting flavor, which...will eventually force me to come back another day for seconds. I'm not really a macaroon connoisseur. I've tried random fresh ones and packaged ones and never really understood the hype until I tried the ones here. They are a little pricey, around $2 for one little piece but oh boy these things are worth it. They taste amazing. The texture has a nice crisp outside and a soft chewy center. There are so many flavors. The seasonal flavor we tried (March 10) was blueberry cheesecake and I'd definitely get them again until they stop selling them! The place has a really neat design. The windows are curved and have a bubble-like design it looks like some some kind of Candy Crush land. The whole place is colorful. You walk in through these huge pink doors that don't have a typical doorknob so it's hard to tell if it's an entrance but if you look closely there's some words that tell you to "pull here" or something. They have unique little bar seats in an interesting shape and the macaroons are displayed on a flat wooden pull out case with grooves for each macaroon. It looks pretty neat for all you Instagram and snap chatters and they come in a neat box that fits each piece in so you can take a pic of that too. Also I'd like to mention the worker there was really nice. My friend and I wanted to split the ice cream sandwich and she was able to do that for us right away! read more
