Most important thing: this business has different hours than posted online. They are not worker friendly-- opening at 730am (but not actually) and closing at 545pm. I attached a photo as well. This is super inconvenient. I waited until 8am then I had to leave to be to work on time. I ended up calling, and they said the train was late, but then when asked if they'll be open on time tomorrow, he also blamed the train. They were still really nice on the phone, and after I called, they were there on time the next day. The other thing is that it is so expensive. Maybe it's partly my Texan sensibilities, but everywhere else is charging way less for more. Though they advertise dry cleaning service, they are NOT DRY CLEANERS! They don't have the facility so they send your items out for dry cleaning. I brought in a men's dress shirt here one Monday morning to get it dry cleaned in advance of attending a wedding on the weekend. I handed the shirt to the man saying I needed it dry cleaned. He said, "regular, hanger?" So said yes, thinking he meant regular dry cleaning for cotton shirts, and sure, I didn't need it box-delivered. I get a ticket which says I can pick it up Wednesday afternoon. That's a bit long for dry cleaning a shirt but ok, I head out. Then I came back Thursday morning and I got a shirt that seemed to be somewhat cleaner but all wrinkly. WTF?!?! I was a bit flabbergasted but didn't have the time to discuss so I left. I called a couple of hours later inquiring about it, and he had the nerve to tell me it was a regular wash and machine press so that I shouldn't have expected anything better. I insisted that I brought it in saying I needed it DRY cleaned. The man responded that he couldn't get that done by Saturday because the dry cleaner they send out items to are closed. Again, WTF? Also, not only did he NOT say sorry but showed no sign of sympathy or sense of responsibility. It's ok though, there are plenty of other launders in this neighborhood. When FlyCleaners jacked up their prices for laundry to a whopping $1.50 per pound, I sought out other local cleaners who would pickup and deliver, had a more reasonable price per pound, had an app, and did a good job cleaning. Enter Joy Dry Cleaners. You can use the Clothespin app to coordinate pickups and deliveries with Joy Dry Cleaners with a tap or two. The price is an amazing $1 per pound. I am not sure of where they deliver to exactly, but I am 1 avenue and 2 streets away fro the location and they get to me in 10 minutes. Last but not least, the facility they send the clothes to does a good job cleaning. With other locations, sometimes I would get back a load of laundry that didn't even small like they used detergent, or was slightly damp from overloading of the dryers. None of this happens with Joy. I have not had an article gone missing (as far as I can tell), but I have received somebody else's maroon pillowcase. (If it's yours, drop me a line!) I have tried a few other local cleaners in my delivery zone and none of them hit all points on the laundry checklist like Joy Dry Cleaners did. read more

**This review is for delivery/drop-off laundry service only** Having recently moved to the area, I had to wave goodbye to my amazing laundry service in Astoria (Lucky Laundromat, for anyone who lives or is moving to the area) and find a new local laundromat. I chose Joy Dry for their convenient delivery options and relatively reasonable rates, priced at $1 per pound. Unfortunately, I'll never use their laundry service again. When my first load of laundry was delivered to me, I could hardly believe it had actually been cleaned. The clothes did not smell clean and there still marks and stains on several pieces that would have easily come out...had they actually used soap. Items that needed to be line-dried were actually put into the dryer, shrinking some items. My previous cleaner actually read labels and hung things up that could not be put into a dryer. Additionally, the clothes were hardly folded and I had to refold a buch of items before putting them away or hanging them up. A few socks were paired together that were not even matches, and I found one balled up by itself. They did not even bother to unball it and wash it properly. They jus threw it in as is and returned it to me this way. Upon speaking with someone at Joy and expressing my disappointment with their service, they informed me that they send it out to another company to be washed and dried. They also suggested that I provide my own detergent and dryer sheets. I said that I think for $1 a pound that's a little ridiculous I provide my own detergent, wherein she informed me that this was pretty standard pricing int he area. She also let me know that if I didn't like the way the clothes came back, that I should probably just try another laundromat because this is the company they use. Not a problem Joy...not a problem at all. There's a plethora of other delivery services in the area and even if I have to pay a few cents more, I'd rather do that and preserve my clothes than have them returned after being run through water and barely folded. read more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. When you drop off clothes, you know that there's a 50% chance they are going to lose some of them and charge you anyway. Everyone on the block knows that this place is horrible and only goes there out of sheer convenience before realizing that it's worth putting in a little effort not to have all of your clothes go missing. Even though my new place is a block farther (nyc gasp!) and slightly more expensive, the difference is cancelled out by the fact that I am no longer losing expensive athletic wear and sentimental t shirts. read more

Last review was from awhile ago but I'm shocked at the low star count! I love Joy Dry Cleaning! I bring my clothing from Brooklyn to Manhattan to have them dry cleaned here! Is that crazy?? They do an amazing job and I'm always happy with the results. It brings me peace to know that there won't be wonky iron marks on my collars and my blacks wont come back grey. I've also used them multiple times for alterations and that has been great. I brought designer stuff here to have zippers replaced, seams taken in, and I've been happy. The work is clean and professional. I take away one star cause they are on the expensive side. I would bring more of my alterations here, even the easy stuff, but pricing is not so competitive so I just end up dropping off the complicated pieces. Staff is always super nice and friendly. They also have a dish of Milky Way chocolates. I'm not saying that sways my rating but it definitely doesn't hurt. read more

Abolsutely awful. Dropped off 4 items. 2 of the 4 were not laundered properly and for over 35$$ that's pretty mind boggling to me. I was told a plaid button down needed a shaving AFTER having it dry cleaned. It certainly didn't look like that before. Now it's has weird lumps of fabric all over it that make it look cheap... Secondly a white V neck shirt came back with black thread interlaced in it. I walked out of the store with it before noticing and immediately returning. I was absolutely appalled they didn't notice it and managed to mess up laundering a white shirt. They then pulled out a lint roller and tried to get the black thread out. They did this after I told them to STOP!!! DON'T LINT ROLL THE SHIRT because of the material it's made from but yet they continue and pull more material out making it look worse. They said they would launder the white shirt BUT WOULD NOT REFUND ME. DO NOT GO HERE. I haven't even looked at the other two items yet God help me. read more

After going to an alteration place nearby and getting charged a huge fee for two outfits, and being told that it took two weeks for it to be altered, I decided to leave to try another store. On my way to the train station to another tailor uptown, I saw a little sign that said "Dry Cleaners" and, lo and behold, there was a sewing machine in the showcase. I stepped inside and Joy, I presume, took my measurements. I went in, they did their thing and two days later I have a romper and a dress that fit like they were made for my body. The last time I dropped stuff off it was expensive ($150 for 4-5 pieces) and the clothing came back looking the same (no stains removed, no fresh smell, no signs of cleaning). I went back wanting to give them the benefit of the doubt and very kindly asked the woman if we could make sure the dress I was dropping off could come back feeling clean (not even worried about the stains!!). The man interjected asked me to "shut up and listen" and went on a long speech letting me know that the clothing would come back the same and they would absolutely not do anything to it. Rude, expensive, and don't fix or clean the clothing properly at all. I have had other alterations done with them and their jobs last 1-2 uses Its so poorly done It comes unstitched. I'm not sure why I come back when they charge me $12-13 for a pair of pants dry cleaned. The first time because I pointed out some areas to focus on, not because there are stains, but they still charge me $12 for the same pair of pants, sans anything on it. Beware! Joy Dry Cleaners badly damaged the cuffs of two of my white shirts. While they made every effort to try to fix the shirts (I should give them credit for that), they have been unable to do so and are now refusing to pay for their screw up. The woman who manages the store told me that the pressing machine at her dry cleaning plant is broken and, consequently, has been damaging and burning her customers' shirts. According to her, "it costs too much to fix" so she is not going to do anything about it. This is, of course, a ridiculous and short-sighted approach to business, not to mention a complete violation of the duty that Joy Dry Cleaners owes their customers who trust them with cleaning their clothing. read more

Pros: Joy Dry Cleaners is a well run operation. I have not had any issues of damage clothes and if anything came back in an unsatisfactory condition, it was easy to get it cleared up. The employees are pleasant to deal with. Cons: I don't find them to be reliable with opening at the scheduled hour of 7 AM. Rude and unethical. We dropped off our wash and fold, and he made us separate whites and darks into two bags but didn't tell us he would charge the 10 pound minimum for each bag. Our darks were 9 pounds but the whites were only 3 pounds -- and he didn't give us a receipt listing the price because he was in a hurry to close. We were shocked when we picked up our small small bag of laundry the next day and it cost $25. We never would have separated it into two if he hadn't told us to. When we asked him about this charge, it was about 5:50 p.m. and he rudely said he was trying to close (again) and that we were causing him to miss his train. I asked what time they close and he said 5:30 p.m., but their hours on the door say they close 6 p.m. While we were polite but firm in our conversation with him, he was rude, dismissive and clearly cared more about closing the shop early than making their scam practices right with us. We live right across the street but will go elsewhere. Don't reward scam business owners who don't care about customer service just because they are close -- go somewhere else. read more

These cleaners are nice and friendly until you have an issue. I had been sending mine and my husbands cleaning there ever week for several months . One week I gave them a $500 dress to alter for me and they completely ruined my dress to the point that it cannot be repaired or salvaged in any way. I know mistakes happen and was open to seeing how they wanted to handle it. I was stunned when the lady accused me of "making up stories" and finally when I told her I would take my business somewhere else she told me to go right ahead and do that. I dropped off two reusable shopping bags with rags from work to be washed and folded. The laundry service was fine, but this review is for unfair pricing. They charged me for two 10 pound minimums equaling $10 per bag, $20 total. The first bag was 5 pounds = $5, and the second bag was 7 pounds = $7. I wish they would have allowed me to combine my bags (that weren't full, just convenient to carry two and all could have fit into one bag). Then I would have only been charged $12. I would have saved almost half the price. Just a disappointing experience where the business took advantage of a new customer in order to charge more money unjustly, so I wouldn't use them again. read more
