Joy Cup Genmaicha tiger bubble tea (large) with boba
    Lauren C.

I have been waiting for Joy Cup to finally open! The bubble tea is delicious. When I entered I was greeted with smiling faces and one of the owners offered to modify my order to her preferred roasted Genmaicha after I had ordered the roasted oolong. Her suggestion did not disappoint as she made it with fresh brewed Genmaicha (roasted rice green tea), added tiger caramel to the sides and pillowy soft and sweet boba. I'm so glad we finally have an amazing bubble tea place in town. The area looked bright and decorated with positive flair. Definitely a great place to work on your laptop or hang with friends. I highly recommend Joy Cup of you're craving authentic bubble tea and some happiness in a cup.

They use natural ingredients, fresh fruit ..fresh milk and none of the powder stuff which is what sets them apart. Some of their signature drinks are crème brûlée series, whale crystal series... But I wanted to get what I had gotten last week, "strawberry milk tea with boba".. but I didn't know if it was with milk tea or just milk so we ended up with one each... it tasted so good.. almost like blending fresh strawberries with milk and with the warm boba to chew on ... extremely delighted!! However I did not like the one with milk tea as much.

I got my usual oreo milk tea with 30 percent sugar and jelly boba, and it was the perfect treat, as always. I got the matcha egg puffs, and they looked so cute with their little smiley faces! The flavor and texture of the egg puffs was also delicious and standard, but I was disappointed because I was expecting an oozy matcha filling in the center, and, as you can see in the photo I posted, there is barely any filling at all. The matcha flavor was very weak, and I was basically just eating a plain egg puff. It was still good, but I hope their other flavors have better filling or it was just an off batch.

I am glad to see a new Vietnamese place in the area though, and especially with earlier hours. We were quickly greeted upon entry, and service throughout was pretty stellar. No complaints at all. We were pointed to what was available on the menu that day, which was probably one of the biggest frustrations about the overall experience. Given that this restaurant is a cafe, it already has a small/limited menu, and then to be told only certain items were being served was even further limiting (overall it was fine though because we knew what we wanted and it was available). The interior is well laid out given how little space they are utilizing, and there was a TV blasting a Vietnamese game show of some kind. I normally would be annoyed by this sort of thing, but it added to the overall charm of this place for me. Clean interior. The food was pretty great overall, you can tell everything is made from scratch. The pho broth was very unique and very complex in flavor. There was a little bit of heat in it, which I absolutely loved, and have never tasted in other pho broths that I've had before. I wish there was a little more meat in the dish than what we were given, but overall pretty solid. This place is a solid lunch time spot to get pho, though there is stiff competition for Vietnamese restaurants in this area...

I ordered the Rice with Korean Short Ribs and at first it's your typical Rice with Korean Short Ribs, but what sets them apart is how much food you're getting for the price that you're paying. I basically got half a plate of short ribs for $10 and just as much rice to balance it out. The short ribs were tender and well marinated. Initially, my thoughts on the short ribs were salty then I REALIZED that I was SUPPOSE to eat the short ribs with rice because unlike western cuisine, the short ribs and the rice are suppose to be eaten TOGETHER and not separately. D'OH! The two balanced each other out nicely when I ate it correctly (i.e. short ribs and rice together). The Pho broth that accompanied the rice dish is a nice touch because traditionally, rice dishes are accompanied with some sort of soup (even in Vietnamese Households at dinner time) because sometimes as you are eating rice, your throat might feel dry and the soup helps balance that out. +ELITE TIP: Before adding fish sauce to the rice, try the short rib with the rice first. Then if you think it's bland, add fish sauce to suit your taste.
