She helped me by answering all the questions I had about the office. She was so very KIND and UNDERSTANDING. I would definitely refer people to buy glasses there and get them fit by the fabulous duo Paul and Cynthia. They made my awful visit ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL.

Warning to the South Bay: This is NOT the local, caring optometry office it pretends to be. They are part of VSP Ventures, a massive corporate giant (Google it & see attached pic), and it shows. They treat patients like numbers on a spreadsheet, not humans and repeatedly got my eye exams wrong. The Negligence: For six years, they failed to diagnose a standard condition I've had since 2017. In July 2025, Dr. Lee removed my astigmatism correction entirely. When I explicitly told her I couldn't see and questioned the prescription, I was dismissed. A manager promised to call me back--no one ever did. The Result: I spent months driving with dangerous, blurry vision and wasted over $3,000 on 9 pairs of useless glasses because I thought better glasses would help me, but the problem was their incompetence. I finally went to a new independent doctor (Leaf Optometry), who immediately diagnosed the issue and confirmed Manhattan Beach Vision Group has been getting it wrong for years after looking over all my previous prescriptions. Do not trust your eyes to this factory. They care about volume, not accuracy. Go to a real local doctor who actually listens and cares.

Unfortunately, those inexpensive reading glasses from the drugstore weren't doing the job. With different vision in each eye, I needed something better. I visited Stein Optometric Center at the Manhattan Beach Mall for an eye exam and new glasses. Before cataract surgery, I'd worn progressive lenses for reading and computer work, and they'd served me well. So I decided to try progressives again, this time for both reading and distance vision. Unfortunately, the new glasses just didn't work for me. I was having difficulty reading, which was one of the main reasons I needed glasses in the first place! I returned to Stein Optometric Center within the exchange period and explained the problem. We switched from progressive lenses to glasses specifically for reading. What a difference. They handled the exchange without any hassle, refunded the price difference, and didn't charge me anything extra. No arguments, no pressure, no unnecessary fees. Before coming here, we were looking for the right doctor to help manage my son's myopia. For this particular need, we had been to 2 different doctors in the South Bay, each with limited experience in myopia management and each very focused on the dollars coming in, more than the service and finding the right program regimen for my son to lead to the best chance for desired results. I shopped around and "interviewed" over a half dozen optometrists about how they manage myopia with children. Dr. Stybel takes the best approach, in my opinion, and he has a wealth of experience and knowledge that he delivers professionally and with care in providing excellent customer service. His demeanor and service philosophy obviously flows to his (and the other doctor's (who also seems fantastic) team.
