We wanted chips and salsa, which they charge for. We were told that a side of cheese would cost $5! If they had put it on our entree in the first place, we wouldn't have had to ask. The tamales were dry on the inside and outside. The chicken was stringy and tough and the masa was dry af. Also, the portions were about half of what they used to be and the prices are higher. The ingredients are less quality. Also, microwaved food is not my idea of authentic Mexican. On top of it all they charge 3% for using a credit card. Would not recommend. First off, it took nearly 30 minutes to get our meal. The "enchilada" I received was covered in CHILI. Not red sauce. Not green sauce. Gross chili. The cheese seemed to be some variety of American. My colleague ordered the taco salad, and was gifted sour cream in a tube. At least take two seconds to squeeze it out. Let the fact that ketchup and mustard were the two available condiments tip you off to the authenticity of the place. If you're dying for greasy tortillas and American cheese, this is your place. My Parents took me to Jose's when I was a kid and the food used to be a Family favorite. It continued to be our favorite Mexican in town. Complete slip I wish I would've taken a picture. The cheese was just goo (seeing another reviewer refer to it as cheese whizz made perfect sense) and the amount of grease/beef/cheese whizz mixture made it seem just like a disgusting chili. This is on some kitchen nightmares level disgusting and just confusing. If you absolutely must eat here, the flour shell American style tacos were half decent after a pint of liquor. They don't really offer you any toppings except a heap of shredded lettuce and very little tomato, unless you ask for extra. Brad had the wet burrito. He said he enjoyed it, but the velveeta cheese they smothered it with was what he didn't like about his last visit or this one. We love Jose's! We've been going since it was just hole in the wall just a block or two away... when the parking lot could hold four vehicles. Firstly their pop is the fizziest pop you'll ever have! Goes great with all the delicious food! I love the cheese enchiladas with rice! Girlfriend always gets the taco combo. We share, and it's pretty much best of both worlds! Truly the pinnacle of mediocrity. First of all, I'll never understand certain Mexican restaurant's affinity towards putting chunky salsa into a squeeze bottle that constantly gets clogged, yielding nothing but tomato water. Extracting the incredibly unremarkable tasting salsa unto my incredibly unremarkable food was a constant chore. I will say, I don't really have any complaints about the service, other than my waiter coming to drop off my chips, and instead of saying something to the effect of "Are you ready to order?" like a socially adept person, merely standing there awkwardly until I took it upon myself to tell him what I want. Other than that, he was polite enough and the food came out in a timely manner. Speaking of the food, to put it bluntly, it's basically ass. Not quite disgusting or inedible, but massively underwhelming; the worst offense being the absolutely hilarious amount of crappy, processed cheese-like product they use. I've been to this place s few times and have always liked the food. A good friend of mine went in for a late lunch. She got the combo plate and I got the full order of tostadas. When asked to put 2 on each plate. He then said he had to charge extra for him to get two plates and half it up. Apparently he figured he could charge extra for grabbing 2 plates from the same pile he would have reached for anyway. Dude, ur things are expensive enough without being charged for 3 second of extra labor. I guess there's a reason that guy is back where u don't see him. Someone who lives around here told us of the great Mexican restaurant that was on Division between Wadsworth and 44th st. We realized after eating here he did not mean this one but the one south of here closer to 44th st. My beef tacos were fine..nothing special but overpriced for 2 and a little bit of beans. My husband ordered a steak torta which was just awful. Barely anything on it with chewy meat and less than a teaspoon of guacamole. One water and one soda brought our bill to over $19!! What a waste of money for what we were served. Place smelled like Lysol and no one was in there on a Saturday night which should have been our first clue we were at the wrong place. read more
