SRG Hardscapes & Masonry

SRG Hardscapes & Masonry

Both had been damaged by long term soil settlement and an unfortunately aggressive tree root. The interior garage slab process went extremely well with no issues. They were able to remove the tree root, re-prep the substrate and pour a new slab that slopes to the door so water from wet vehicles will drain. The exterior porch was a bit more of a challenge. We had experienced significant settlement of the soil against the house due to improper backfill and compaction during the original construction. SRG excavation down approx. 6' and removed all of the bad soil and backfilled with road base and recycled concrete while compacting in lifts. Once this was complete, they prepped and poured and new front porch, patio and sidewalk in front of the garage/driveway. Unfortunately the concrete pour did not go according to plan. The concrete material was not per specification (we think it had flyash in it from the plant). This made the concrete material sticky and difficult to place and stamp. After 24 hours of cure time, we noticed that the surface of the concrete was starting to develop many small hairline cracks (plastic shrinkage cracks) throughout the surface of the concrete. After multiple discussions with SRG, and Sergio's subsequent discussions with the concrete supplier, I made the decision to have all of the stamped patio removed and re-poured. Sergio at SRG displayed his business integrity by agreeing to perform this re-work at no additional cost to me, while also being told by the concrete supplier that they took no responsibility for the issue. SRG returned approx. 3 weeks after the initial pour, removed all of the stamped concrete, and re-poured the entire porch, patio and sidewalk in a weekend. Again, at no additional cost to me for the issue. Although our project didn't go exactly as planned, I would still recommend SRG for your project as they acted with a high level of business integrity and did what was necessary to provide the client with a great finished product.

The work was done quickly and efficiently even in this summer's blistering heat. In just three days, the yard went from dirt to beautiful, tiered flagstone walls. The quality of this team's work is excellent. Sergio, the owner, provided a complete written quote that outlined the pertinent details and was supported with AI generated images of the "after" look, which confirmed that we were on the same page regarding the design. Once underway, the job progressed quickly and smoothly. (We're doing the planting, which is in progress.) Would we turn the SRG Hardscaping again should we need stone or brick work in the future? Absolutely.

I have stairs up into my backdoor that the warranty service has had to come out and repair. They addressed my repair problem by adding concrete in my stairs, and have offered several solutions for the future, so they don't have to continuously return and do more repairs. They're service is outstanding, they created a problem ticket and put me in touch with the warranty service team. The manager I have been working with has had direct contact with me since I reported the problem. He immediately scheduled a service team who came and repaired the stairs to make them safe. Finally they've recommended some final options to permanently fix my stairs. I suggest using System Pavers, as thier warranty work is the highest stars I can give. If I had worked with another contractor they would have forced me to pay for the repairs, and who knows what else. Again, System Pavers is a 5 to 10 star service. If you don't use them you could be paying for minor repairs that cost a fortune. I cannot thank this crew enough!!

From the salesman that quoted the job (Rob), the scheduler that was flexible and understanding, the project manager Mike who was always quick to respond to my inquiries, and of course to crew that came and did the job, the process was efficient, professional, and uppermost level of quality. D.Masonry - The scary pillar Before-and-After. (1930's "clinker" brick is supposed to look uneven)

And I called one other company for a second bid. David showed up in time for our appointment, and his explanation of the problem (80 year old mortar in our brick house was falling out). The previous owner had gotten some of it repaired. That mortar was failing, too. I was particularly concerned because one pillar that carries a heavy load was cracked so badly (see photo) that you could see daylight through it from top to bottom. David explained why it had failed, and how the repair work someone had done years ago made matters worse. His bid that was about the same price as the other firm, but his explanation -- and the bid itself -- were so clear that D. Masonry was my obvious choice. He provided me with proof of insurance, too, a request the other company ignored. They lived up to my high expectations. Watching them work, I realized that tuck pointing is a highly skilled craft, practically an art form. They took the time to mix and try a range of mortar colors. With their help, we selected the one they advised. Now that the new mortar has completely dried, I can see it is a perfect color match. The pillar I was so nervous about? They elaborately jacked up and stabilized things, so they could remove the pillar, which they disassembled completely, laying out all the bricks (with all the old mortar removed), so they could put them back exactly as they were, only sturdy now, and good as new. Masonry repairs -- done well -- simply disappear when the work is done, right? As long as I own this house, my gratitude for this job-well-done will live on.

One of the most troubling is discovering problems with the home's foundation. We had been considering downsizing and began discussing the possibility of selling the house. Eventually, we found a real estate agent we liked. Our house was built in the late 1800's and the agent mentioned that, due to modern code, the brick foundation could likely fail inspection. That meant we had to find someone other than an ordinary handyman, someone who truly knew the ropes and could guide us to a successful inspection. Web searching eventually led us to Groundworks. After reading all the overwhelmingly positive reviews, we gave them a call. Groundworks responded by sending Jake Davis, a Field Engineer, to look things over. We were immediately impressed with his approach and professionalism. He spent several hours (not just a quick glance) ascertaining the foundation's structural integrity and produced a diagram outlining the suggested work and a detailed list of required materials. Within a few days a Groundworks crew, led by Justin with Abel and Brendon, began placing steel support beams in the areas Davis described. Justin explained each installation step from the support beams to exactly how the columns were anchored. He's one of those impressive people whom you feel genuinely take pride in their work. Not surprisingly, Jake Davis kept us updated throughout the entire process. After two days the work was finished to our complete satisfaction. If you have similar or other foundation problems call Groundworks and set up an inspection appointment. By the way, the overall cost was far less than expected. I most highly recommend Groundworks! I had a French drain system installed in my unfinished basement to "fix" my water problem, this set me back like 8k. 6 months later I'm in closing, selling the home and the buyer demands and inspection. Nope, the recommended MORE French drains knowing full well that if they recommended it the buyer would demand it and my hands would be tied.
