Beautiful beach on the island shore. The stretch of this beach is soooo long and right along the road so it's an easy get to beach with plenty of paths to get from the road to the beach. You can choose to be in a more quiet spot or be with more of the crowds. Jaws Bridge is down the road with plenty of people jumping off the bridge into the water, pretty cool to see and jump if you're not afraid of getting eaten by Jaws! I've jumped twice in the past and I think I'm good with not jumping anymore lol, but it's a must see. The water can get seaweedy but there are plenty of beach spots to choose and some parts may be more rocky or seaweedy than others, overall it's a nice peaceful beach for a relaxing day in the vineyard sun.

A big beach with lots of people One of the most popular beaches on the Vineyard, it is over 100 acres and 2 miles long. It splits Nantucket Sound and Sengekontacket Pond (did I spell that right?) and so it's actually two beaches in one. There is great fishing in the area and a choice of kayaking in the pond or ocean. Beach Rd goes right through the park and is the main road from Oak Bluffs and Edgartown. It makes a great bike trip with gorgeous views in every direction and cooling breezes even in the summer. On a bike you can stop just about anywhere along the beach but in a car you better get there early if you plan to park, because it gets crowded and becomes almost impossible to find a parking spot. Even though it gets busy in the summer and has tons of people you never really feel crowded like on many other beaches, probably because it is so long. Unfortunately because the beach is so narrow it gets hammered during storms and is subjected to a lot of erosion. I believe the town is engaged in a constant battle trying to keep the beach from totally disappearing.

The "State Beach" as locals call it is a great place to bring out a picnic basket and just hang out for a few hours to take in the views. On weekends the street parking can be a little tight but there are always parking spots freeing up. I you have ever seen the movie "Jaws" which was filmed back in the seventies this was one of the primary filming locations. If I remember the movie correctly a kid and a boater were eaten by the shark in this location. If you are staying on the either Edgartown or Oak Bluffs the State beach is one of the best spots for stargazing. I you have never seen the Milky way then stop by the beach on a clear night, park you car and look up. You will be amazed.

This is a popular beach on the Vineyard. It is located between Oak Bluffs and Edgartown. The water is great the beach calm, quiet even when it is crowded it is very nice. One of my favorite beaches on the Vineyard.

One of my favorite things to do during my honeymoon in June was rent bikes in Oak Bluffs and head to Edgartown in perfect weather for lunch and shopping. On the way back, we stopped at the beach and the water was too cold for me. Little kiddies were swimming and my husband took a dip, but I decided this would be my ideal spot for a nap. Everything was so quiet and calm, although I'm sure it does get crowded at times and we were lucky.

We found the Captain Morse house and I could not be more thankful! Our weekend was everything we'd thought it would be and more. This house extremely homey and comfortable! We never wanted to leave! There were great paths for our annual night walk (yes, we walk in winter ) we were in walking distance to some amazing coffee shops and diners, and the kids had a ball during our dance party with all the cousins, aunts, and uncles! Above all I have to say, the management was the best part! You can stay at a place that has everything you need and more, but if the people running it aren't accommodating or lack communication, you'd never want to go there again! This team went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed and we were comfortable! They responded to a late night request as well which was very impressive! Safe to say.... We will be back next February! Thank you so much!!! The Crafts Family

The Captain Morse House is situated in the ideal location. After a great night's sleep in one of the numerous cozy and quiet bedrooms, wake up and walk to the beach, or to Behind the Bookstore for a perfect cup of coffee. The house has so many convenient amenities, including bicycles and beach gear to use for your day's adventure. If you are looking to just chill in the beautifully landscaped yard and read, or enjoy a nice meal on the BBQ, this property is great for that too. The owner, Platt, and caretaker, Timothy, were both wonderful. The whole rental process is very well organized, not a detail is left out in house manual, and communication with a Platt and Tim is easy and prompt. My family and I had a lovely time staying in the West Wing and would definitely rent again and recommend to others. Maybe we'll try the East Wing next time in order to enjoy those great porches!

Our family has stayed here many times over the years, but after this recent interaction, we won't be coming back. We booked a stay for next year, received a confirmation email, and had a deposit withdrawn from our account -- only to have the deposit refunded days later without any communication whatsoever. When I called to find out what happened, Julia told me there was a "website issue" and that we never should've been able to book because next year's rates haven't been set yet. This directly contradicted the confirmation email, which clearly stated our rate was locked in. When I asked if they could honor the confirmed rate -- a basic standard in most reputable businesses -- Julia became defensive and irate. She told me, verbatim, that if I thought she was a terrible business owner, I probably shouldn't stay there. She was rude, condescending, and completely dismissive. Julia may claim the business has "integrity" and a long history on the island, but it's clear the current management does not reflect those values. This place might have had a good reputation in the past, but it's absolutely not the same under her leadership. A hospitality business with no regard for basic courtesy or professionalism is one to steer clear of.
