The rough tide makes it nearly impossible to swim or do anything, but our dog went nuts and LOVED every wave that came crashing into him; nearly sweeping him away at times. The beauty of being isolated and alone with no facilities, no people or lifeguards or anything, gives this beach a very particular feeling of freedom and peace. Initially thinking we made a mistake going out to the west end of the island, we greatly enjoyed it, and made some unique memories strolling the shoreline.

They must have 6 picnic benches with most of them in the shade which is very beneficial. Also have plenty of park benches too. The grass area is also very nice. It's not huge but enough for kids to run around and have a good time. The big toy is aged, but still very nice and they have toddler swings. Yes, the beach isn't large, as it is the same size as it was 30 years ago. They have the are roped off. There is plenty of beach are for kids to play in the sand. There are life guards there too...

This is the calmest and shallowest water and is perfect for a sunset over glassy water. A walk or drive through the dunes onto the beach really make you feel like you're on a private and far off beach. Just look at my photos and you'll get an idea. There is parking off the road so you can walk to the beach, or take the sand road with your car onto the beach.

There is no sand nor anyplace to settle down in. There is though a dedicated public access that the nearby Yacht club maintains, and it is nicely paved in yellow brick to let you know what is public or and what is not. As part of the path, there is a public shower and washroom. We spent a bit of time walking around the access and enjoying the views, while trying to duck the rain as much as possible.

You must have a four wheeled vehicle to get onto Great Point, and soon after the gate you realize why. The sand does get deep on the road, and even deeper on the beach. Similar to driving in snow, your wheels fall into the groves of earlier travelers, which raises the blood pressure in meeting situations. Our Honda Pilot scraped the bottom (5 adults and 2 kids) most of the way, but it's soft sand and didn't do any damage (now that I said that about half way home the engine will shut down because the catalytic converter is full of sand...). We stopped just south of the lighthouse, and had a good stretch of beach to ourselves. After a while we walked up to the point and found it packed with cars. I'm not sure why you'd purposely drive all that way and want to be that close to anyone else. Isn't it the point to get away from people?? The sand is a little abrasive, so it's best to wear shoes if you go for a walk. The east side was calm the day we went, but it all depends on the wind. Keep your eyes peeled for the seals swimming by. Also, wear bug spray. The mosquito's get vicious out there, especially around 4 when you are driving through the dunes on the way back to the road.

It was a really special family afternoon and we could not have done it without this rental agency. Honestly before this summer I did not know that you could even rent a motor boat on Nantucket. Fortunately I walked by the stand and got the idea. The service was awesome. You sign up online and pick the boat you want. When we showed up they had upgraded me to a bigger better boat. Then after the first hour of the trip it was clear the engine wasn't working perfectly (but it was OK) and so I actually had the cell phone of Brandon, the guy who helped us at the dock, and he literally came out and swapped out another bigger and better boat for us! Talk about customer service! The boats are solid and sturdy but nothing fancy. Honestly people rent them every day so there's no way you could possibly get a fancy brand spanking new boat through a rental agency. But they are solid and they work and it's just a fantastic way to explore Nantucket Harbor and the surrounding beaches. Truly an amazing day and again the customer service by Brandon was absolutely 10 out of 10. He could not of been a more helpful guy.

Best place to stay on the island…read more This is our 2nd summer staying in the Hermit Crab cottage. Great location and wonderful management team on property. Can't say enough good things about Harborview. Great location, right in town. They pick you up at the airport; stock your fridge with Cisco Brewery beer and wine; super new modern furniture with professional Bosch appliances. They have a small beach with adirondack chairs on the harbor and it is lovely to sit there and have some wine. Morag and Matt make reservations at the hard to get into restaurants and we have grown to really love them. Highly recommend Harborview. See you next summer!

The views are great and the location would be hard to beat. The property manager, Francisco, was also terrific. He was conscientious, accommodating, and friendly, and made our stay really enjoyable.
