It's probably my fault for assuming such an old Inn wouldn't reek like a filthy old antique store. Our suite, The Coach House was overwhelming overran by mold/mildew, the only way to mask the stench was to set the A/C to extremely cold settings throughout our 5 day stay. This was actually a serious problem for me because I have severe allergies and asthma... I chose not to address this issue to management, as management had proved to be completely unhelpful, and unaccommodating to us during our entire stay... so I figured why bother. Unfortunately all of our belongings we had with us (suitcases, clothes, shoes, toiletry bags, flight bags, purses), and the thousand(s) of dollars we spent on souvenirs, and gifts purchased throughout the 5 trip, all came home with us reeking of mold, I'm livid. Don't even get me started on experience of staying on the property, guests are not encouraged to socialize with other guests, guests are not allowed to have outdoor conversations without getting asked to leave... or have the inn keeper show up to see whats going on and just linger around as your trying to enjoy the outdoors because your room smells so badly. My welcome letter stated: "For ALL of our Inn guests to enjoy, we offer the living rooms with the fireplaces in the Main Inn, and the Summer House porch." We were specifically banned from using the common porch, we received two written letters telling us so. Along with the common porch being roped off and a typed out sign stating the porch was only for the rooms in the Summer House to enjoy. This happened after we checked in and specifically asked Cole (the gentleman that checked us in and gave us the tour), if smoking cigars were allowed outside on the property, in which Cole stated anywhere outside on the property at any of the seating areas a cigar could be enjoyed, Cole went on to show me the Summer House porch, stating a cigar could be enjoyed at those seating areas if we'd like, because he said it's such a nice area. After the fact, we were asked by Jack to move off of the Summer House patio that very same evening when my partner wanted to enjoy a cigar before we went in for the night. Later during our stay we received a hand letter stating the we could use a real-estate office porch to sit at, and the Summer House porch was roped off. We paid for the most expensive suite on the property at $1,750 per night, this is not the kind of treatment or living conditions one should ever expect. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone, and you couldn't pay me to stay here again. If I was a person of color, this place would be sued into oblivion for discrimination, contractual breach, and selective enforcement. According the Department of Justice, singling out a paying guest from using a listed common area can be considered unlawful discrimination if the action is based on a protected characteristic (such as race, religion, sex, disability, or national origin) or violates the equal enjoyment terms of your contract. When It Is Unlawful Discrimination Protected Class Status: If the guest is singled out because of their race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, disability, or national origin, it violates federal civil rights laws (like Title II for public accommodations) and state human rights acts. Contractual Breach: A paying guest enters an agreement that includes access to advertised amenities. Denying access to a listed common area without a neutral, safety-based justification breaks that service agreement. Selective Enforcement: Applying a common area rule to only one specific person while allowing everyone else to use it creates strong legal evidence of disparate treatment or bias.

We arrived to a house with no hand soap, dish soap, toilet paper, paper towels, useable pillows, mixing bowls, Saran Wrap/tin foil/ziploc bags, trash bags, cutting boards, missing furniture, do I dare continue? We let the broker Paula know how upset we were and frankly there was no sympathy nor help offered. Someone dropped off two pillows, but that's where the help ended. We notified the company of a towel rack ripped off the wall and that wasn't rectified either. We were supposed to be at the house to have the caretaker access and fix the damage, but we hated the house so much we were out the door at 10AM and didn't dare come home before 5PM. We weren't going to be coordinating someone to fix damage we didn't do during our vacation. At the end of the day, all we needed was somewhere comfortable to put our feet up or a good night's sleep, but that wasn't even possible with the conditions of the mattresses and the couch and chairs. We love the beauty of this island that we have been visiting for nearly 7 years, but this last trip might be the last for a while.

When we sent through photos/videos of the condition to our Sandpiper rental agent Judy Murray, she agreed that it was unacceptable and that we should look for alternate accommodations, even offering to help. Judy confirmed in writing that "the owner would refund our money." Therefore, we booked last-minute accommodations for the back half of our stay and moved out of the house. Afterwards, we were refunded for 15% of our stay with no explanation. Then, they went radio silent on us. Judy was totally pleasant to us throughout the process, but in the end, she didn't keep her word and didn't take accountability. DO NOT USE SANDPIPER and definitely do not book 19 Navy Way in Edgartown.

Never had I felt staff lack hospitality, common sense or courtesy like the staff at the Kelly House. One example, my dad (who is blind) had just checked out at 11 am and he left his bags at the lobby. At 12 noon he wanted to use a restroom was denied access since "he checked out". Was told to "find somewhere outside that has a bathroom". Never asked to help with luggage. Never opened doors. Never made eye contact or a hello, or a good morning. Continental breakfast normally consist of more than two items. In this case it was burnt coffee and some sweet muffin for which you have to ask for one by one. If your in a group of 4 or 5 and one person asks for a muffin don't you think you should ask if others from the group want any? So let's say you're an introvert who doesn't care about courtesy or a false advertised continental breakfast, or any form of hospitality. You just want a clean/nice place to sleep and leave. Well this place is not it. You have to tell the staff to clean. They only cleaned our room once during a 4 night stay.
