I had a truly disappointing experience with Edgartown Commons, specifically with the current manager, Julia. Our family has stayed here many times over the years, but after this recent interaction, we won't be coming back. We booked a stay for next year, received a confirmation email, and had a deposit withdrawn from our account -- only to have the deposit refunded days later without any communication whatsoever. When I called to find out what happened, Julia told me there was a "website issue" and that we never should've been able to book because next year's rates haven't been set yet. This directly contradicted the confirmation email, which clearly stated our rate was locked in. When I asked if they could honor the confirmed rate -- a basic standard in most reputable businesses -- Julia became defensive and irate. She told me, verbatim, that if I thought she was a terrible business owner, I probably shouldn't stay there. She was rude, condescending, and completely dismissive. Julia may claim the business has "integrity" and a long history on the island, but it's clear the current management does not reflect those values. This place might have had a good reputation in the past, but it's absolutely not the same under her leadership. A hospitality business with no regard for basic courtesy or professionalism is one to steer clear of. read more

Our first stay was July 2020-an unusual year b/c of COVID. Still we had a lovely time, location was wonderful, unit was clean and big enough for 3 of us, plus felt homey. This place is really great for families and low key people who do not require a turn down service, luxury towels and five star dining facilities downstairs. You will be staying in an apartment with a small kitchen, access to a pool, good parking on site and a laundry facility. Not to mention a shuffle board court. Two blocks from Main Street in Edgartown, this location can not be beat. You can shop, eat, go to the beach, visit the light house, go to Chappy and then come "home" for a swim and a rest. You will have your own deck, a fully equipped kitchen, a large fan and that desirable parking....Not bad. Sure, it's quirky and you need to do some of your own laundry, make your own bed and wipe your own countertops. You can do that....right? This is a super spot for the budget conscious and for families who enjoy casual spots where their kids can meet other kids. Do not come here if you are looking for lush surroundings. This is MV on a shoestring budget. And that is a rare commodity here. Closed in the off season, this place fills up quickly in the summer. I've stayed here three times now. The last two times were lovely for the price I paid - but they were in the outer buildings. This time, since I brought friends, we opted for a two bedroom and we were put in the main building. Never again. The condos in the outer buildings are small, quaint, well kept and furnished well. This was not the case with this two bedroom condo. First of all, I called weeks before to verify what the bed situation was since there were six of us. I was told there were two queen beds in one room and a queen bed in the other. We arrived and were given a room with two twin beds in one room and a queen bed in the other. That was not what I reserved. The room was horrendous. I realize we weren't paying top dollar, but it was like staying in a Super 8. The furniture was filthy, the appliances old and noisy, the bedding was clean but worn and faded. The first night as we all were sitting in the living room with our feet up, we realized all of our feet were dirty and black on the bottoms - FROM THE CARPET AND FLOORS. You'd think they would at least shampoo before reopening for the season???? The water in the shower malfunctioned. It would be normal temperature, then suddenly become scalding hot. We had kids with us and thank goodness we discovered this before any of them took showers, it's a serious safety hazard. The wifi was useless, as others have noted. The pool isn't heated. The playground is in serious need of an update, it's rickety and falling apart. Obviously, the benefits of staying here are that you're near everything and have great parking. But if you do stay here, avoid the main building. I'm not sure why the quality is so different, but I even scoped the condo across from us and it was barely better. Sad to have to update this review. But our stay was embarrassing to me. I had raved about this place and couldn't wait to bring our friends here. I've stayed here twice and I love it - will definitely be returning! True, they don't provide daily maid service and you have to go to the front desk to get fresh towels, but this is not a "hotel," it's more of an apartment. What they do provide is clean, comfortable, inexpensive, conveniently located lodging (right in the heart of "downtown" Edgartown), complete with a kitchenette, wi-fi, cable, ample space and best of all, an outdoor pool. As long as you know what to expect, I think you will love it too! read more

My wife and I (no kids) recently stayed (again) in a nice sized studio at the pool at this condo hotel (looks like the rooms are individually owned). Very quiet, with separate private back entrance in one of the outer (stand alone) buildings. Great deal - completely renovated with new kitchen appliances (and granite top), newly painted, new windows, new wooden floors and what looked like new furniture - felt like our home. Quaintly decorated and very clean, throughout - including a clean bathroom. WIFI worked great and service was good. Plenty of parking, but the location was in such short walking distance to the town that we did not need the car to go dining in the evening. A true gem - we will definitely be back in August (for our fourth time, to the same unit we hope). If you go as a couple, request #36. read more

Edgartown Commons is super close to the bus stop and a very quick walk to downtown. We had a wonderful one bedroom with kitchen and livingroom. Everything was clean, comfortable and worked well. A big bonus was our own large private deck. I don't know if it's the case with all, but the suite we stayed in is privately owned (like a condo) and was perfect. They don't have daily maid service which is my preference so I was very happy about that. This is where I will stay when I go back. read more

If you stay here, what you're renting is on par with a small apartment in a college dorm. In our case, the flimsy bed was a torture chamber. The oven was so off calibration it burned a frozen pizza (to a crisp) in 4 minutes, set off the smoke alarm, and our room smelled like smoke the rest of the weekend. The TV remote only worked half the time. There was no air conditioning. WiFi was spotty at best. Just checked in for 2 nights, in town for a wedding. The location for the money is fantastic! Everything is clean, the kitchen is upgraded, and the separate bedroom from the living area is perfect for traveling with kids. The bed is a little springy and the bedroom's interior design is kind of stuck in the 80's, style-wise (why I gave it 4 stars...) but otherwise it's perfect for us and I love that it feels like home away from home! We stayed here because everyone else was booked (during Columbus Day weekend), even though this hotel had mediocre ratings. We arrived in the evening and wanted to freshen up from our travels. We inquired at the front desk for shampoo, as there was none in bathroom. They told us it isn't provided, but were welcome to buy a travel size bottle for $1.00. Soap, towels and shampoo are the most basic bathroom amenities supplied, so we felt this policy was very inhospitable, especially when emphatically stated by the owner/manager. If you have the option to stay elsewhere, I would recommend it. At $200. a night, no bargain! read more

Haven't even checked in yet and already the worst customer service I have ever come across. Tried to cancel our reservation this weekend due to our flight being cancelled because of hurricane Hermine but Rob said "he can't be held responsible for that." We physically cannot get there but are are still expected to pay for the room. He was extremely difficult, deflective, and unhelpful. I can only imagine if we were there and something went wrong with our room. He probably wouldn't be held responsible for that either. I have worked in a hotel for many years and you can absolutely cancel due to whether. Do not book here just out of fear that the hotel will not be willing to help you in any way. read more

Do NOT stay here if you're looking for a good nights sleep. The church bells go off every hour all night long. Our unit was clean but all the mattresses were horrible! It was like sleeping on concrete. The only upside is it's location. Near the bus (which you can hear), and walk to downtown. Still not worth it. When we arrived the condo smelled musty and we could never get used to the smell. The hot water didn't work and the man behind the desk was very uncooperative. The pool was closed and when I asked him when it would open he said in a few days. When I asked him again he said next week. I asked if he could unchain it, that we didn't have to go in pool but we wanted to sit in the area by the pool and the picnic tables. I told him that one of the reasons I came was for the pool area. I loved the location! Edgartown Commons is a short walk to the bus stop, so you can grab the MVT bus from the ferry to Edgartown and walk less than two blocks to the hotel. It's also within walking distance to the beach, Chappy ferry and downtown Edgartown. They have kitchens with a refrigerator, stove, oven, microwave, and a dishwasher. My unit #6 was recently redone. Kitchen was new. Beds were comfortable. No AC but we had a few fans in the room, which was fine. There is a church or town bell that rings on the hour, so bring ear plugs if that would wake you up. Bring beach towels with you. They do not provide them. It is not fancy by any means, but we would stay here again. These units (condos) are owed by different people, and that accounts for the differences in each room. Staff was great. Our room was clean, especially when you consider we were there at the end of the season. read more

I am here at Edgartown Commons now and I am more than happy with the accommodations! The price was very reasonable and the place is great. We are in a one bedroom condo and the decor and everything else in the condo is in great shape. My 7yo loves the playground and the pool. There is a small pool with shallow water for the littles too. The bus stop is right around the corner and that couldn't be more convenient! I will definitely stay again. read more

Rude, Dirty, and unaccommodating would accurately describe the Edgartown Commons. The owner or front desk guy was horrible to deal with after he screwed up our reservations (we weren't the only one). We entered our room to find no shampoo, soap, and the towels I think were used to wash someones car the day before. Also, every window in the suite was open upon our arrival........it was 40 degrees in the middle of Fall! (Makes me think there is some mold issue with the place). I am easy to please and it takes a lot to piss me off but if I am spending that money at least give me a bar of soap and don't swear at me when I am helping to sort out your f-ups. My family and I had reservations to stay here and unfortunately my dad passed away a few days before we were to leave for the Vineyard so we had to cancel. When I knew things weren't looking good for my dad, I called them and gave them a weeks notice. They were able to rebook the room for 2 of the 5 nights we were to stay there and I spoke with the manager about my circumstances and he basically said the policy is 30 days to cancel, so too bad. Very inflexible, uncompassionate and frankly to me this was a bad business decision. I can understand the policy, however, in my opinion the death of an immediate family member warrants an exception to the rule. I will never stay there and will recommend to anyone who asks, never to stay there either. Oh, and by the way, every other vendor such as the Steamship Authority who requires a 2 week cancellation for a car reservation and some others gave me a full refund. read more
