Very late review as I stayed here back in 2015... My sister and I wanted to celebrate our anniversary (July 16 and July 17) and decided to comeback to MV after being away for a number of years. I asked my sister to look for a place for the four of us and she picked the Beachfront Inn. I was a little skeptical because our travel tastes are different. I like luxury and she is more economy. That being said all four of us LOVED our stay. I believe the innkeeper was Stan and he was a delight. My husband and I stayed in the biggest room with the en-suite and we did not need to concern ourselves with the lack of AC because the ocean breeze was amazing. I loved the location, we were on the beach and could walk from the ferry and to Circuit Avenue. The innkeeper makes the difference at any bed&breakfast and Stan made us feel like we were literally at home. We enjoyed our stay so much when we looked to book a place for guests to stay for our 25th anniversary, he was our first call. I saw the negative reviews and couldn't hold back my review so that's why I'm writing after all these years. As a matter of fact I am writing this while sitting on the beach in front of the Beachfront Inn and telling my friends what a nice place it is. So I am not sure about the negative reviews but that was certainly not the experience of four people from NYC. Hopefully, you'll give them a try. read more

PROS: -Fantastic location. You're literally across the street from the beach and a five-seven minute walk from Circuit Avenue. Can't beat that. -Rooms are not overly kitchy. I do not like lots of flowers and lace so this was nice for me. I stayed in the Apricot room, and it was clean, light, and airy, with minimal lace. (It was kind of pinkish, but then again, it was the apricot room.) -Ceilings are high and while the smaller rooms are small, they're not cramped, and the high ceilings kind of make you feel like you're in a treehouse. I loved that feeling. -There is wifi. -The owners and everyone staffing the B&B were very nice, warm, and welcoming. I have stayed at some B&Bs were it was just kind of awkward, and this one was not like that. They were genuinely pleasant. -They make it clear on the website that the rooms don't have AC, but do have fans. Honestly, we barely needed the fans-- the house stays fairly cool, and so did our room, even though we were on the second floor. -My parents were there at the same time we were, and their room had a little balcony overlooking the beach, which was awesome. -The beds were EXTREMELY comfortable. Definitely as good as top of the line hotels that I have stayed in. And a ton better than many budget hotels. It also happens to be better than my own bed, although that may just say more about my own place. CONS: -It's an old house. Floors creak, walls are thin, etc. If you're the kind of person who avoids rooms near the elevator in a standard hotel, beware. You will hear people walking around periodically. It didn't bother me, but I thought it was worth mentioning. -I would describe the style of the house (not the rooms) as older. Not kitchy in the way that someone deliberately tried to make things overly floral, but in the way that it's full of older pieces and antiques from someone's life. Not my style, but I made good use of the rocking chairs on the front porch and was quite content that way. -Breakfast is not full style breakfast, but continental (toast, jam, tea, etc). Again, this is something that's clear on the website, but if you're looking for the traditional hot breakfast of many B&Bs, this is not your place. read more

What a great find! My family made a last minute plan to go to Martha's for a short 1.5 day and 1 night trip. In an eleventh hour search for BBs, I came across Samoset. And I am so glad I did. First - innkeepers - Mev (niece of the owner of the house) and the other one (I think his name is Bob) were fantastic. Mev was so accomodating from the get go. The Inn itself is old and has so much history to it;wish we had some more time to talk about it with the Keeper. This B&B is in a stellar location, right across the beach and close to the ferrh dock. Trust me you wanna stay in Oak Bluffs and then take either the tour bus, rent a bicycle/motorcycle or car and then go to the other towns. The rooms have no ac but have fans and are well aerated. We had about 4 other people in the other rooms however I really disnt hear anyone obnoxiously loud - there was some noise through the night from the streets but it didnt bother me too much. The breakfast was continental and the innkeepers baked coffee cake was amazing! They actually let us use the rooms after it was officially our time to sign out. The pleasant staff in the B&B, the wifi/rooms and its accessibility from all the places on the island made our short trip a really memorable one! Thankyou guys. read more

Zero stars if at all possible. I booked with them and my booking was canceled and re-advertised at a higher rate for rebooking. Anyone booking beware, this created quite the headache and expense when we had to scramble and change our travel plans. I have never experienced such a situation before and I am astonished to have experienced it in the vineyard. read more

Loved staying here. You cannot beat the location - the house right across the street from the beach and a close walk to the ferry and town center. Marlene was very nice and accommodating. My girlfriend and I had a great time at The Beachfront Inn. It's biggest perk has go to be the location, which is about 5 min from downtown but also right on the beach. Stan was nice enough to upgrade our room to a balcony with an ocean front view. He was a gracious host and was very helpful; he even drove us to the ferry on our last day! The room itself was also great. We had a comfortable bed and the walls are well decorated. We enjoyed a simple breakfast that Stan provided every morning. All in all, I cannot recommend the Beachfront Inn enough. We hope to stay there again someday! read more

This is my response to Inn-keeper's insulting response to my previous post. I stayed at their place and my review was based on my real and terrible experience. I am also complaining that this inn-keeper posted my real name and address (!) in a website called Blacklist (collecting all fraud cases) for a reason I complained their property in a website. As Inn-keeper, they should keep the client information confidential. I never broke any laws, just simply complained about their service. But wise customers can have an insight how this Inn operates. Their response is not appropriate as professional. Yelp is a website collecting a real and honest feedback from customers. I hope this Inn-keeper stops behaving unprofessionally and stop insulting customers. Possible clients - please also check with other travel site and others' views. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemies, you may have problems for many years as they attack you if you post a negative review. read more

When I read some of the negative views, I was impressed by the owner's response and thought I would check this place out - so glad I did. If you are looking for modern conveniences, this is not for you - but if you love antiques, interesting décor, peace and relaxation - this is the place. Granted, it is a very old house but I found it to be lovely and interesting. I had a wonderful time; Stanley (owner) was the perfect host and made me feel very much at home the moment I stepped into his establishment. I look forward to visiting again. Just stayed there recently. Across the street from nice clean beach with sandbar. Very short walk to town. Old house with lots of victorian charm. A real authentic New England seaside vacation. read more

This place is a throw back, without the attention to detail an older place requires to maintain it's real charm. It was dusty, the older furniture in some cases were broken. We informed the person taking the booking that this was a honeymoon for us and that we were looking for privacy and a very romantic setting. We were assured that the bridal suite was quiet and romantic. The advertisements we saw did not properly depict what we found when we arrived. We took one step into the bed room and we were completely taken back. The bed was old and poorly kept, the shower was moldy. You had to whisper or else you could hear almost anything on the second floor. We struggled for about an hour before deciding to look for our alternatives. With a 14 cancellation policy we felt like we had no recourse. Honestly, we felt like this was a bait and switch all the way. read more

This was by far the most uncomfortable place I have ever stayed. The owner just sat near us listening creepily and made us feel like we were a bother to him. We would only go to the house to change after the beach or go to sleep. We were so disgusted with the treatment and conditions. The continental breakfast was a couple English muffins and these weird looking little Debbie snack things under saran wrap- and it never changed for 4 days with 17 people staying. He watched us everywhere we went and complained about everything. Went through our trash and never gave us clean towels. Stay away from this place. 1 Star is too many. STAY AWAY! Breakfast for the house of 17 consisted of 3 English muffins and Ring Dings. No clean towels, trash never emptied,although he went in our rooms while we were not there and said he was cleaning. Owner listened to all our conversations. We felt so uncomfortable the entire time so we never stayed there other to shower and sleep. There are so many other things that I won't write. Location location location! Samoset On the Sound was the perfect place for my husband and I. We felt very comfortable there. It was like staying with family. We were not looking for a fancy place just a comfortable bed to sleep in with a nice view and close to everything. You absolutely cannot stay in a better location for the price! The view is amazing and you can walk everywhere. We stayed in the porch room which was really neat to wake up and see the sun rise. It included a small fridge which was great. We did have to share a bathroom with other guests but it honestly wasn't a problem. Everything was clean and only had to wait a few minutes one morning for a shower. Breakfasts were simple. Included fresh baked bread, port muffins, cereal and hot coffee and tea. No frills but just what you need to be comfortable. Val and Marlene were so nice. Definitely staying here again. read more

Warning: Find another place to stay. The accommodations are deplorable and the Inn Keeper did not change his clothes for 4 days. His kitchen was so filthy, the board of health would shut him down if they saw the conditions. We ran out of toilet paper, got no clean towels after day and felt stalked by the innkeeper. As soon as we left our room, he went in, claiming it was "housekeeping" but really just wanted to look around. He then proceeded to accuse us of breaking his rickety rocking chair, that, like everything else in this place, was barley put together. After the weekend we planned on staying on the Vineyard, at this inn, for 2 more nights, but could not get out of there fast enough. We went to The SummerCamp(formerly the Wesley) who conversely was a gorgeous take, (and only cost us $25 dollars more per night) This Inn was so frightening and unkempt, I am writing a letter to the MV Chamber of Commerce. Had the weather and the company not been so great, this Innkeeper would have ruined our weekend. I repeat: Find another place to stay. read more
