Don't waste your money. I've gotten better off the rack suits at Macy's than a Jos A Bank custom suit. I purchased a custom suit from this location about 3 months ago and wanted to wait until I wore it on numerous occasions. Custom tailored suits are supposed to look custom, but I can honestly say every time I put on my suit it looks like I'm swimming in it. When I got measured back in March, the salesman asked me what size pant I usually wear. I told him, and his response was, "well you must have put on some weight!" Not a good start and I had not. He didn't ask anything about what style I liked or anything. I have a narrow frame and many jackets look way too wide in the shoulders. While trying on the jackets to get a sense of what fits, I mentioned it to him and he said, "that's why you're getting custom. It will all look much better when it's tailored." Cool. Fast forward to the first fitting: the jacket was horribly wide and pants were WAY too baggy. I told him my concerns and he assured me (again) that these issues would be fixed with the final tailoring. Come my final fitting, things were looking better. HOWEVER the issues I mentioned in both of the previous fittings weren't properly taken care of. Shoulders way too wide. Pants way too baggy. Rise way too long. I mentioned it yet again and instead of trying to fix the issue, he brought over another sales associate to have him tell me that it looked "like it should." I don't care what either of their opinions were. I did not feel like it looked good and spent a decent amount of money on the suit. I had an event for which I purchased the suit the following weekend and it couldn't be tailored again in time. Also, they assured me that the issues I mentioned were not fixable, as the style of this suit wasn't a narrow shoulder and they didn't even carry shoulders as narrow as I wanted. Now, I need to wear a suit for work and every time I put on this suit I feel frustrated and end up opting for another in my closet I got off the rack at Dillards or Macy's. read more

Mr Wingo and Ms Olga took me in and had me fitted in 20 minutes. They found my look and even fit me into a sale price. Nice experience.

The manager's customer service was horrible for a series of mistakes made by their team. I stopped by on October 28th to rent a tuxedo with my partner for event on November 5th. After being measured, I provided my contact information to the associate helping us and she told us that we would be able to pick up the suit, try it on, and have alterations made on November 4th. On November 4th, I drove to the store after getting off work to see a sign reading "we will close at 6:00pm today." I called the Short Pump store but they were unable to get in contact with any of the Gaskins Rd staff. On November 5th, I went to the store to pick up the tuxedos. As I was mentioning to the manager that we stopped by yesterday, he rudely interrupted me stating "we called everyone." I told him I never received a call and he said "check your voicemail." After mentioning I didn't receive a voicemail, his story changed saying "there was only one customer that we didn't have a phone number for." I went to the dressing room to try the items on. The pants were so tight that the pockets were bulging out and I could barely button them. I stepped outside to see if there was a way to loosen the waist, but they were already as loose as they would go. The manager said "even if you tried them on yesterday we wouldn't have been able to fix them." I explained that the people that measured me for the tux told us that we could get alterations and if I knew they couldn't alter the items I would have gone with another solution. He insisted that his staff would never say that because they were well educated on the process (so well educated that they didn't enter our phone numbers into the system I guess). We stood in the dressing room for about 5 minutes arguing. I emphasized that the communication was poor throughout the experience, but he continued to place the burden of blame onto me. I went back to the dressing room to try on the rest of the items and discovered the dress shirt and jacket only went about halfway down my forearms, and the jacket completely covered the sleeves of the dress shirt. The vest was bulging at the buttons. The only things that fit correctly were the shoes and bow tie. I think the manager realized at this point that his staff messed up virtually every step along the way, provided me with his card, and told me that he would help me with a refund after the event. When we returned the items yesterday, he said he could take less than 50% off the price and yelled at my partner saying that "you're not getting a full refund if that's what you're after." I would recommend avoiding this store at all costs. I expect better support and communication if I'm paying so much for their expert services. read more

Came in around 5:45. I was out with a suit before 6:30. Charles there is the man and other staff there were also great. Store seemed busy at that time but he came over to help me as I was trying suits on. He pointed me to better fitting pants and got them altered within 20 minutes. He was helpful, fast working, and a pleasant guy. Would recommend. read more

I visited this Jos A Bank looking to find a replacement pant for a suit pant that was ruined. I went to the Gayton Crossing store this time because my recent experience and the Short Pump store was not very good. I was quickly losing hope in Jos A Bank based on my past 2 experiences in the Short Pump store. However, that all changed when I walked into the Gayton Crossing location. The employees there (specifically John) were extremely helpful and knowledgeable on the products they were selling. My experience here was SO GREAT, I'll be coming here for all of my futures men's wear needs! read more

Ron was incredible! The main reason we got our suits for our wedding here. Every other location and even other suit stores didn't really want our business because of the quantity of suits we needed, but Ron was glad to help. We got exactly what we wanted for a reasonable price and the guys looked amazing! Highly recommend - ask for Ron. read more

We purchased bowties and regular ties from this location for our wedding in April. My husband and his groomsmen wore the bowties and my dad and father-in-law wore the regular ties. The color was exactly what I was looking for and there was a great sale going on at the store so I was able to purchase what I needed then. I had to order a few ties but it did not take long for my order to come in. Very impressed with the staff and timeliness of the order. read more

John Shannon really saved the day for me. Moths had eaten holes in the pants of my favorite Banks suit I had bought three years ago. John found my records in the file, but also determined the fabric was no longer offered. HOWEVER- John also knew that Banks had pants separates in the same fabric. He ordered them in my size, had them fitted and got them to me really fast. I really appreciate all he did for me- he went way above and beyond and is a real tribute to Banks dedication to the customer. read more

I needed to rent a tux and I went to the Short Pump store yesterday. The experience was terrible from not being greeted when we walked in the door to a very unprofessional staff singing loud enough to be heard across the store and also being ignored for 5 minutes with only one other customer in the store. I've gotten more help at Michael's. I walked out vowing to never go into a JB store again. A relative told me that they had recently gone to the Gayton Crossing store to buy a tux for their son and had a great experience and I should give them a try. Today I went to Gayton Crossing and it was like being in another world. The staff were all friendly, knowledgeable and eager to help. I was promptly greeted by "Emily" and shown the available options, measured and the process was completed professionally and quickly. They have an on site seamstress for alterations if needed when buying clothing. Outstanding customer service! I will definitely deal with this store in the future!! As for Short Pump, the corporation would save money and their reputation if they just closed the store. read more

The service here was absolutely horrible. We went in to buy a french cuffed shirt and a tie for our son's birthday. James Adams and several other employees passed us in the aisles as we shopped and no one greeted us. When we had made our choices we stood in line for quite a while as James fawned all over a woman in line exchanging some items. He joked with her and was very pleasant. As he was finishing up another gentleman got in line next to us. Even though we had been standing there 10 minutes James tried to take him first. The gentleman declined and we went to the counter to pay. We were asked for our phone number and we politely declined. We were instructed that we could not return any of the items if we didn't give out our phone number. We questioned the policy and were told, in a very rude and condescending tone, that it was company policy and he just has to enforce it. We both found this to be very nonsensical. Once we gave him a phone number he rung us up without another word. We had to ask for a box and a gift receipt, both of which he offered up to the woman ahead of us. My husband and I were both clean and well dressed with money that spends just as well as anyone else. We were made to feel sub-par in this store and do not plan to go back again or recommend it to anyone else we know. read more

They don't even deserve the one star I gave them. I don't even know where to begin. I'll split this review into two instances: 1) we bought my husband's suit and his groomsmen's suits from Ron at this location. He was very knowledgeable upon our first meeting and the initial sale. He promised our groomsmen would get great service from him over the phone to purchase suits and that they could get measured at any store. He promised free shipping to their homes. Out of our 6 groomsmen, ALL of them had issues. There are too many to name but they include: getting the wrong color pants, not getting called back, being overcharged, being told they need to come to richmond to get measured (from an hour away), having their suits shipped to a store instead of their home and not being told...the list goes on. We complained several times to no avail - even to management. Every time Ron promised he'd be communicative and wasn't. We were also told that no one else at the store could help us because Ron kept his files with him. So we were only helped on days Ron was at work. Overall extremely frustrating. 2) I just went there to buy a shirt and tie for my husband for New Year's Eve. Christina helped me and I was very impressed. She picked out a great combination. However after I got home I realized the shirt she picked out wasn't slim fit (which was a requirement I told her). I called the store as soon as I realized it and asked for Christina but she had left. I spoke to Andrew and I asked him if Tailored Fit meant Slim or not and he said no. I told him I'd have to bring the shirt back and he did not apologize for my inconvenience at all. I hung up feeling very irritated that I had to drive back to the store to switch out the shirt. Then I called back to see if they had the particular shirt and size in slim fit. Andrew told me no, they don't. Even more frustrating! He offered no apology or anything. I said "I'm sorry if I sound frustrated but I was sold a shirt that wasn't slim fit when I requested slim fit". He said "well there is a lot of merchandise in the store and it gets mixed up a lot. Maybe she pulled a shirt out of the slim fit section but it wasn't slim fit. Also Christina only works here part time so she might not have known. I would have been able to tell you right away it wasn't slim fit." Way to offer nothing but excuses and throw an employee under the bus! Bottom line is this: we spent a lot of money there for our wedding, and I just dropped $200 there today and due to both experiences I WILL NEVER SHOP THERE AGAIN. This store is the closest one to our house and I will drive far out of my way if it means I will get even a tiny bit of customer service. My advice - AVOID this store at all costs. read more

Look, come here for the sales, but do not trust them for anything else. I bought a tuxedo for my wedding here, and they pressured me into having the in-store tailor do the alterations. I thought, ok, sure. When I arrived to pick up my "finished" tux, I found that only the pant leg length had been touched. Nothing else. They completely neglected all the other alterations that I had paid for. Overall, the buying process was good, but their oversight and incompetence was unacceptable from a clothier trusted to provide such a service. read more

I don't even think they deserve 1 star. And I'm glad that the only two reviews on here are rated 1 star as well. This was about a year a half ago, but my fiance and I just never forgot how horribly we were treated in there, and thought they deserved a piece of our mind. My fiance needed a new belt and was going to be in a wedding, but the suits he was renting from was in Blacksburg, VA so we weren't about to drive 3 hours to get measurements there. We thought we could just go into Jos A Bank to 1. Get a new belt 2. Get measured. When we go into the store, no one greeted us. So we ask the lady at the desk if she could take some quick measurements. She asks if my fiance has a group number for a wedding party, he explains that the suits he's renting from is not this company and it's super far away to just get measured. The lady's attitude instantly changed, from "I kinda want to help you" to, "ughhh I guess I'll help you". We didn't even mention that we wanted to buy a belt too. Sooooo yeah. But she VERY VERY quickly took rough measurements on him, didn't even bother to write them down, read them back to me so I could write them down. She didn't give two poops. Absolutely rude. I honestly thought that a company that's been around for so long wouldn't mind just taking quick measurements for someone in need. We didn't come in looking like low lives, we're actually classy people, but I guess the snobby "Richmonder" came out in her. I don't know what her problem was.... After the half-assed attempt to take measurements, we go over to the belt section to actually buy something from this rude lady. We end up finding a belt, she's still being haughty and stuck up. Just the worst customer service, I wish I knew this lady's name so if anyone even reads this from this location could do something about it. No one should ever come into a high end store and expect service like that. Also the belt that he bought literally fell apart after a year of use.... So yeah. read more

Awful experience. Staff was very rude and unhelpful. Never called to let me know that my order was in. I had to constantly follow up with them and then when my suit was finally hemmed and ready they lost it. I will never give them my business again. read more
