I returned later in the afternoon with two suits and two blazers, and they took care of everything quickly and efficiently--adjusting sleeve length on three jackets and replacing buttons on the fourth. The cost was extremely reasonable (only $40 total), and everything will be ready in about a week. Honestly, I have no idea why this store gets poor reviews online--my experience was nothing short of white-glove service. Pickup artists would say she was a 'hired gun', and she did mention how a lot of times guys would walk in, short talk with her, and then try to get her number. It's all good, though, because she knew what she was doing. So, anyway, what I loved about this place was the well arranged selection of formal wear, the helpful people, and the cheap prices. I ended up getting a fairly good looking city coat. I needed one. Quality is a subjective term, and it probably wouldn't be a part of my collection for more than a year or two, but I enjoyed shopping here. The clerk helped me try on different sizes and styles, and then took a couple measurements to get some alterations done. They seemed to have a lot of formal menswear, and I was told that shoes wasn't something they focused heavily on, especially in-store. When they moved to McLean earlier this year, I went with about 20 items to put up for consignment. (I had made appointment as they require.) I brought in beautiful clothes, in excellent condition. They took the boxes to the back to inspect the clothing and choose which they wanted to take for consignment; and while that was going on I browsed. I couldn't believe the downgrade in the clothing; while the quality was fine, I did not see anything stylish for sale. I was not even tempted to try anything on. After about 20 minutes the owner comes back and says she cannot take any of my items, although she would consider one in the fall (it was a spring/summer item, as were all the pieces, as this took place in mid-Spring) and I "could come back in a few months." Super dismissive and arrogant. The one good thing was the friendly young man at the counter, who I chatted with while I waited. I see the positive reviews here are years old, so here's an update: NTY management is just as or even more snobby now, the prices are even higher -- not just because of time passing but also likely the expensive location -- and they don't even have cool clothes any more.

This store is geared toward an older crowd, which I really like. I'm past the age of shopping at some other resale boutiques that focus on only the trendiest items in juniors sizing. New To You is more JCrew and higher-end items. Prices seemed to be about 50 percent off original retail. Could you find some of these items thrifting? Sure, but it'd be like pulling a needle from a haystack. I'm willing to pay more for a tailored selection of good-condition items. I'll come back to shop here.
