I went back and forth between 1 star & 2 stars and simply giving the "2" stars because they did do the work requested. I had written a glowing review previously because they truly did great service at a very reasonable price. I haven't used them in quite some time but had a few pieces I needed some work done on and went back because of previous experiences, but didn't know they have changed ownership. I have some old sweat pants from college I wanted to get an elastic waistband put in and needed a new zipper for the one broken on a sweater. The sweatpants I've had for some 30 years and despite the years, are in great shape and yes, we guys don't like to throw out comfortable clothes. But the drawstrings were useless and figured just put in an elastic waistband and I'll put in the new drawstring. I came back a week later and the had completed the job. All was good until they told me the price... $45!!!! I was NEVER told a price before hand and in my previous experiences, their prices were very reasonable. I told them I thought the prices were exorbitantly high and I was told the zipper alone cost them $25. Well, this is an outright lie. The only thing wrong was the "pull" was broken and you buy 10 pulls for $6 on Amazon and a full zipper replacement is only $5 on Amazon. But the woman at the store told me they cost $25. So that meant each elastic band for the sweatpants cost $10 each. You can get 400 inches for $7 on Amazon and I didn't even need one tenth of that. And when they put in the elastic, they sewed up the holes for the drawstring so I can no longer put a new drawstring in myself. I mentioned that I have been coming to this store for decades, but was unaware of new ownership. I've checked around a the average price for getting a zipper replaced is $12 and to have the elastic bands put in would have been $5. Although I've been going here since I moved to the area almost 30 years ago, I'll never come here again. Too many other places that do quality work and for significantly less. If you go here... get a price quote up front, but I recommend going somewhere else. read more

The prices have always been fair, and the only times I've had to pay a little extra is when I've asked for same-day rush jobs. Went here based on fellow elite's review. Was not overly impressed but in the end they got the job done. First off, they are strictly CASH only. I get that merchant fees are expensive but really? Second when I went to pick up the very small job I had them do, they missed a good portion of the hem. When I questioned the girl at counter, she seemed defensive and told me it was the pocket causing the issue. I showed her the other side ( done properly) and she decided I might be accurate. She asked me to have a seat and she'd have "her father" look at it. I then heard (from behind counter) the guy tell her, " I didn't do it." Quite frankly I don't care who did what, I just want it done right. They ended up fixing it and off I went. In the end my jacket was fixed , but it wasn't the best experience. read more

I wish I had read the Yelp reviews before coming to this place. I had 3 dresses tailored. They did a great job on one of the dresses, but one of them was clearly not hemmed evenly. When I pointed this out the lady didn't even look at the dress and started to defend herself that she hemmed evenly all around. So now I have to try to trim and hem myself at home. On top of this I had to go to the ATM to get cash because they couldn't accept credit card. read more

Jon's Tailor shop came under two new owners in 2017. So, a lot of the pre-2017 reviews simply do not apply to the shop anymore. The shop is maintained by two women, who work beyond business hours to get the job done. I have taken at least a dozen pair of pants to get hemmed. I'm 5'4", so a lot of my newly purchased pants are too long. These ladies did a fantastic job getting my measurements right and adjusting my pants to a shorter length. Also, it always looks like no work has been done on the pants, since the thread they use matches perfectly with the original thread. It's great that they take credit cards because I never carry cash and I need help earning travel points. When you walk through the door, you will be greeted by Serena, who will take down your request. Thanh is in the back working on multiple clothing items at the same time. Huh. So surprised by the poor reviews. I've brought many many pieces here, and I've never been unhappy with anything. They've hemmed jackets, jeans, and tops for me and everything has been completed neatly and timely. Theyve even brought back to life to old pieces that I wore holes in to I loved them so much. Maybe my standards are low but I don't think they are, and everything they've tailored for me I've loved! When seeking a tailor you look for precise measurement, attention to detail and fast service. Jon's Tailor gets two out of three (slower than most). It would have been nice if the shop was in prime shape, the lady at the front was friendly and that they were not cash-only but hey - that's not essential (just convenient). This establishment is just 3/5 stars due to offering the bare essentials for market pricing. With all of the competition out there, it's time to catch-up with the industry standard of not just providing quality service, but convenience and fast turnaround. My wife brought in three brand new suits to be tailored, walked in and received the "What do you want?" stare, although actually speaking words would have been helpful. After explaining she was there to pay her money, you know, to be a tailor, you know, like the sign said - everything went well. It was about a week turnaround and my wife left. Good thing I looked on Yelp before she picked up the suits because the lady never mentioned it was money laundered cash-only. In the world of plastic, this is a bust for me. Show over. Having my wife stop by the bank to pull out $110 because you want to avoid a 3% service charge is bull. Charge me the fee and save my gas to the bank. All-in-all the suites fit well after the deed was done but We'll be looking for someone with all of the stops that can produce the same quality of work. Tailors may be a dying breed but that's just because they get a poor rap from first-timers that visit places that don't impress. read more

I would suggest temporarily closing this business while away instead of entrusting it to family and a 'substitute tailor'. The idea is to continue earning profit, not losing customers. I'm not picky- most of my clothes are hemmed with scissors, but when I want something done professionally- I take it to a professional. Just because you can sew, doesn't make you a tailor- let's use this as the moral to this lesson. 1. Left leg & right leg should be the same length. 2. Left leg & right leg should be 1"above the heel of your foot 3. Pants leg should be equal distance in circumference- all the way around. 4. Taking in a waist band requires equal stitching on both sides, not just one side 5. Yelling at the customer for your mistake- a big 'no no' 6. Demanding payment for services not rendered- another big 'no no' And finally: 7. Running parents' business into the ground while they are in mourning- probably not the best decision. Don't bother with this place unless you don't ever plan to wear your clothes again... they cannot even do a simple hemming job on a dress. Ended up with uneven stitches at the hemline. Looks horrendous. I took the dress back to try to get them to fix it, they said they would have to charge me more... really? You don't know how to sew and you're going to charge me more? Wow. I wish I'd read the other David's review before going here. Not only did they completely ruin two brand-new men's suits by hacking them up so badly they were unwearable, they then tried to blame me, saying I had picked the wrong suit size. Unreal. The lapels on both suits bowed out comically and they insisted that is how it should fit. So then they told me it's doing that because it needs to be pressed. for the $65 per suit I paid for alterations, I expect it to come back pressed, but they don't even have a mangle at this place. So I take it to Beasley's next door, bring it back the next day and lo and behold, it looks the same. Yet, they continue to tell me it looks good, it looks "normal, how it should." You can't argue with crazy. On top of all of this, they take cash only -- that's right, NO credit cards, debit cards or checks, just greenbacks. They seem to do a brisk cash-only business from the minions of SUV-peddling CV twits who frequent this shopping center so perhaps one of our local tax authorities should pay them a visit. Go anywhere else than Jon's, they're the worst "tailors" I've ever used and rude to boot. read more

STAY AWAY!!! I took several pairs of pants to be hemmed. On one, the stitching came out after I wore them a couple of times. Due to their store hours and my schedule, it took me a couple of months to get them in to get fixed. THEY CHARGED ME $5 TO REPAIR THEIR SHODDY WORK! Obviously $5 isn't much but the lady that works their had no interest in hearing that I'd only worn them twice. She heard "a couple of months ago" and refused to listen to another word I had to say. I do not recommend this place under any circumstances. They completely butchered my $250 dress. I am 30 weeks pregnant and needed to get my dress altered for the Marine corps ball. I knew it wasn't going to be the easiest alteration they had ever had but my experience there was absolutely horrible. They fixed the shoulder straps but that was about the only thing they did right. They hem wasn't where I asked, the mid section seams were taken out completely making the dress look like a potato sack and I just wasn't happy. I told them about the issues that I saw with the dress and they brought the seams in on the dress too tightly causing the dress to wrinkle then went on to say it was my fault the dress didn't fit, and I'm sorry but it's not their job to make me feel bad about how a look with a child growing inside me. (Don't worry I took the dress to another alteration shop and they fixed every single problem I had with the dress, even the new problems this store had brought upon me in less than three days) I started crying in the fitting process because of how embarrassed I felt about "not fitting in the dress" and how bad the dress looked. After they told me there was nothing more they could do I put my regular clothes back on and left my husband with my card to pay for the damage, he told me that the lady looked at the dress and just said $75. Like there was no planning to how much she charged us and even more knowing I wasn't happy with her work and on top of her humiliating me. I could not believe the absolute unprofessionalism. Please save your money and your dignity and go anywhere else. Don't care about you or your clothes or the quality of their own work, just the money in your wallet. read more

Go somewhere else. They said they'd alter some pants at a given price and we were clear that it included both the waist and inseam. I checked three times with them about this. When I picked the pants up, only the waist had been done and they said if I wanted the inseam it was going to cost me more. Should have walked out and given up the pants but like a fool I persisted. They knocked a very small sum off the additional amount to do the inseams. When I picked them up the second time, they were better than before but still not the way I'd asked for them. For what they charged, I could have bought new pants that fit well. Worst was their dishonesty. I won't be returning and suggest that you don't either. read more

Take your clothes somewhere else. I recently moved to the CV area about six months ago. My wife needed a place to take my alterations in. We've went to Jon's Tailor twice but we won't be going back. The first time they charged $8 to alter a pair of dress pants. We went back last weekend and said they were $10. I asked why the difference in the price and the guy said simply said that their prices went up. The lady who did my measurements wrote the ticket up. I didn't even bother looking at the ticket because we had already agreed on the price. She had written $12 on it. I went back to pick up my wife's pants last night and she told me it was $12. I told her that the guy told us it was $10 and that was a 50% increase from last time. She refused to honor his price and kept arguing with me. I paid the money and left. My wife was so mad when I got home. She went back today to talk to the owner . The lady told her the guy shouldn't have quoted her a price because he doesn't work there. Seriously?! The crazy thing was that the guy was standing right there next to the cash register! Plus, he's been there both times we've gone there. After a brief verbal exchange, my wife said she wasn't leaving without her $2 and the lady reluctantly forked it over. I know what you're thinking - all of this over two bucks. Yes, it's only $2 but it's the principle. People have choices when it comes to purchasing goods and services. Business owners should treat people with respect and honor the prices they quote instead of being rude, argumentative, and trying to stiff people. They are my neighborhood tailor for a few years now. Ive always been pleased with their work (I'm pretty picky when it comes to alterations). I think they might have changed ownership in the last couple years (not positive about that) because there have been some new faces working there from time to time, but either way, the service has always been and continues to be great. One one occasion, I had several men's dress shirts done, each needing a different type of alteration, and when I returned with a couple of the shirts that had an alteration missing, (could have been my mistake when explaining) they happily fixed with no questions asked. I wish there was a -1 star choice! I brought my pants in to get the zipper fixed. I picked them up on a Monday to wear on Tuesday. When I took them out of the bag, the zipper pull crumbled in my hands. I immediately took them back and showed the woman. She responded "you broke it so you have to pay for another". She said it twice! I could not believe the HORRIBLE management and HORRIBLE customer service. I will NEVER go there again and hope you don't either. Worst tailor I've ever been to. Worst customer service I've ever experienced. I asked for the inside of my Jean pants to be reinforced and patch a hole. I picked them up and asked if she could extend the stitching around the hole and add a little more on the other side so that it wouldn't spread and another hole create. She refused to do it, I explained to her why I would like more stitching and she still refused to do it. She then said that there was already enough stitching and that it would be "fine"...I then added okay so if a hole creates I can bring them back and you will fix them since you are refusing to add more? She said no, there's no guarantee. And then decided she would do it. Then she takes the jeans back.... and tells me she won't have them ready until the following Saturday which would be 10 days? It doesn't take 10 days to add extra stitching. I've requested this at other tailors and they had no issues doing it and did it right then and it took less then 5 min. I told her forget it and to just give me the jeans back. She hesitated and acted like she wasn't going to give then back so I had to literally reach across the counter and snatch them from her. Dishonest. They quoted me $20 to replace an entire a zipper on a jacket, but when I went to pick it up, the entire zipper hadn't needed to be replaced at all, just the slider had been replaced. I was actually glad that the entire zipper hadn't needed to be removed, but disappointed that they still tried to charge me the same amount as if they had replaced the entire zipper. I have brought many, many items here and have had good service. Recently I went in to retrieve my sun-dress that I needed shortening of the shoulder straps. I took it home and a few days later went to wear it and noticed that the work was not done. Funny thing is that a man was complaining about the same thing a week prior to when I was in. So I go back and talk to the lady owner and she tells me that of course she must have because that does not happen. So I pressed the issue since I have taken at least 60 items in there before so she went ahead and did the adjustment for me but when I go back to pick it up, she makes the comment of "oh that's ok if you don't want to pay, I can't make you pay". The experience has completely turned me off to this place and their lack of professionalism. As if I need to cheat her out of $10, give me a break!! read more
