This place is amazing. We have been coming here for years. It all starts as you pull in when you are greeted and taken down to the dock. The staff will unload your car on their quad squad and put it all on the boat for you. Paula and Carrie in the office are amazing. They go above and beyond to make sure you are set. Ryan will answer any questions you have and will make sure you have everything you need before you head out on your adventure. House boating is alot of work. From packing to set up to take down but let me tell you its all worth it to spend time on this beautiful lake! We have made the best memories out here. Having boating experience is a huge plus when driving these massive things. I would recommend asking as many questions if you have never done this before. Make sure you are comfortable driving it and setting it up. Its not up to the staff to do this for you. We already booked for next yr and look forward to this vacation every yr. What an experience! The Jones Valley Resort Staff was amazing from start to finish. The morning started with someone loading up our gear from the paring lot and loaded it onto the boat for us, then a guy driving side-by-side shuttled our party down to the boat. The water has receded, the walk would have taken us a while and it was already hot. The boat was clean (bathroom and BBQ included) everything worked without any issues! Thank goodness the boat had plenty of shade cuz the day was HOT. I can't wait to rent another boat from Jones Valley Resort again. Thank you for a great day. read more

This was the scariest most uncomfortable experience of my entire life. I had a very rare brain tumor and we did not know if I would survive the surgery and these three sleepless nights on this houseboat were genuinely scarier. We rented the Corinthian houseboat for three nights. Our orientation was more of a 45-minute dark comedy than a serious instruction on how to safely stay alive on this thing. We recorded the orientation so we could reference it should we need to. At no point did we receive an overview on emergency protocols. We were told all info is available in this book and the solution to any problem is basically just call the Marina. We take off to our first cove and decide to stake down to fish for a while. We were never shown how to properly stake so we did not unhitch the ropes, meaning we had about five feet of rope connected us to the side of a rocky hill. We were in the mouth of a cove and it was getting windy so we thought to find another spot for the evening. We try MANY times and the boat would not turn on. Doing everything they told us to over and over again, reviewing the book (which we learn now that we are nearing an emergency situation was missing MANY pages), it would NOT turn on. We decide we have to stay here all night since it's getting dark and maybe the boat engine needs to rest. Luckily we still had one stake in but we had to physically pull this massive boat with our hands and bodies while perched on the side of a rocky hill, fighting against wind, just to get a second stake in. By the sheer will and grit and strength of an amazing group of friends we muscled a 50,000 pound boat down. WTF! All night the boat was rotating around the corner of this cove, I was convinced we would come untethered and have no ability to turn the boat on or call the Marina. I stayed up ALL night with a flashlight on the those stakes in case they came up. WTF! Finally the morning came and we were able to turn the boat on for about 3 minutes, just enough time to pull one stake, and it just SHUT OFF. We could not turn it on again. Thank god we still had one stake in. After 20 mins of trying to turn it on we have to call the Marina. We climbed the hill and searched for service, finally getting them after 30+ attempts and they said they'd send someone. We waited HOURS and no one came. We are once again one stake away from floating away and who knows what would happen! We climb the mountain and finally get another glimpse of service to call again and beg them to come help. After another HOUR Isaac the Angel finally comes and turns it on. Thank the heavens for Isaac! We finally got the houseboat back to the Marina to pick up our speed boat and THREE staff members attempted to turn on our houseboat and could NOT turn it on. Isaac is the only person that can do it so he needs to be called in. We learn on our speed boat orientation that we were in grave danger all night and emergency protocols include a flag which we've never seen, calling the police with service we didn't have, and ringing a bell which we never knew existed. WTF! We also learned that you need the full length of rope to stake the boat properly and should use four NOT two stakes. We take off to find a new place to stake down for the next two nights. We find a cove and are able to stake down but once we hitch our speedboat, we come untethered. We attempt to turn on the houseboat and of course, it WILL NOT TURN ON! After climbing another hill and attempting many calls to the Marina, Isaac the Angel is dispatched and turns the death machine on allowing us to straighten the boat and get all four stakes in. Mind you, before he arrives our incredible group is in the water and on the shore pushing and pulling this thing to avoid it tipping or crashing into the rocks! Once again, we avoid death by the strength and power of our own bodies! Finally, Monday morning arrives and we are ready to get out of here. We are able to turn the boat on using the special tricks Isaac taught us that are not intuitive or written down anywhere and we get three of the four stakes out. We leave one stake in because we now know better and we pull ropes. We attempt to take off. The boat is fully beached. We spend 30 minutes trying to get this thing unbeached, no luck. This was not in the book or in the orientation, of course. We call the Marina over and over, please send Isaac! We wait one HOUR with the boat ON because we know if it turns off it'll never turn back on. No one comes. Then the carbon monoxide alarm goes off and we pull open all the windows and doors and run up into the hills. The boat is on, untethered, and now filled with carbon monoxide, and we are all 30 feet away from it. I call the Marina and beg for immediate help! We wait for another 45 minutes and finally Isaac arrives, gets us off the beach, and another very nice staff person drives us back to the Marina. I sob as we drive off, exhausted, so grateful for my friends, and that this trip is over. read more

If you've ever wondered what would happen if a Motel 6, a prison bunk, and a Craigslist boat had a baby...welcome aboard. The first thing we noticed was that the boat wasn't clean. It was covered in spider webs, spiders, dirt, and enough dust to make us wonder if housekeeping had confused "turnover" with "turn around and leave." The "staterooms" are little more than prison mattresses stuffed into fiberglass cubby holes underneath two raised beds from the other rooms. The "penthouse loft" deserves an award for creative writing because there is absolutely nothing penthouse about crawling into what is essentially an adult-sized hamster cage. Then came orientation. Our guide somehow spent more time talking about his heartburn and reminding us to be careful when pooping than teaching us how to operate a houseboat. The highlights included: - The shower is just lake water, so don't bother. Just jump in the lake. - If the carbon monoxide detector starts beeping, just take the batteries out." Bold safety strategy. Oddly enough, he didn't try to explain things like how to beach the boat & tie off, un-beach the boat, or how to start it after turning it off. Which turned out to be important. Because after the first time we shut it off...it basically retired. Every time we wanted to move, we had to call for help, assuming we had cell service. At one point we literally climbed the side of a mountain just to get enough signal to call, gave them our exact coordinates, and waited. Nobody came. So we climbed the mountain again, called again, and eventually someone showed up over an hour later. Day two gave us hope. We picked up the speedboat and learned there was supposed to be an instruction manual onboard. Fantastic. Except it wasn't. It was a table of contents followed by information about birds. Apparently if the engine dies you're supposed to identify a bald eagle while waiting for rescue. PLEASE UPDATE THESE MANUAL BOOKS! Isaac, the service technician, deserves a star. A man of few words but he practically became part of our vacation because he was the only person capable of convincing this floating antique to function. By the end of the trip, seeing Isaac pull up was reassuring. Eventually we found a beach where we managed to park the boat. After everything we'd been through, we collectively decided we now lived there permanently. Honestly, it was the smartest decision we made all weekend. That was also our one genuinely great day because we stayed put, floated in the lake, tubed behind the speedboat, and avoided asking the boat to do anything ambitious...like move. Then checkout day arrived. Naturally, the boat wouldn't back off the shore. We tried everything. Nothing. Called for help. Waited two hours. Watched technicians struggle with the same boat we'd been fighting all weekend. And then came my favorite part. "Next time we'll give you a better boat." Excuse me? You mean those exist? Because I would've preferred that option from the get. Lake Shasta is breathtaking. Our friends are hilarious. That's why we still had fun. The houseboat itself deserves almost none of the credit. The boats aren't luxury. They belongs in hospice. It's false advertising. The only thing more worn out than the boats was our patience. I wish someone had warned us. Jones Valley House Boat Review Our extended family just returned from our 2nd annual house boat vacation with Jones Valley House Boats, and we highly recommend this company, this location and this form of vacationing with a group.  We're already planning our return for next year! We rented an Excapade, which comfortably slept 8 people without having to convert the couch or the kitchen table for beds.  We could've easily accommodated 3-4 more people. The boat was really well-outfitted in the kitchen. The BBQ was great! They provide plenty of white plastic chairs and even though both years we brought comfortable camp chairs, we 've decided they really aren't necessary.  The white chairs are awesome! They provide one cooler, a drip coffee maker, and a toaster.  The refrigerator is a full-size refrigerator, so even though we used coolers to transport perishable items on our long drive to the lake, we don't use them during the week because on the upper deck there is a small refrigerator to keep drinks.  We brought inflatable paddle boards, blow-up floating mattresses and fishing gear.   Office staff have been very friendly and accommodating.  Each trip they come out to the boat to orient you and help you learn how to use the boat.  For RVers out there, it's easy! Others will want to ask a lot of questions to understand the electrical panel and take notes during your orientation.  When you arrive, they are so friendly and helpful, bringing large dock carts right to your car to help you load all your items into the carts and drive everything to the front door of the house boat.  They also have someone who drives back and forth from the parking lot down to the dock giving people rides, which is so appreciated especially during those hot days!  Their team is so efficient and friendly at all times.  We researched all the house boat companies at Lake Shasta and are really happy we picked Jones Valley because of their exceptional quality, value, scheduling, and friendliness.  We're already looking forward to our 3rd annual trip with Jones Valley House Boats 2027! read more

Given our many houseboat trips, we understand houseboats can have issues and don't always perform perfectly. On this trip, our refrigerator went out after the first day. Upon making contact with the ladies at Jones Valley we were greeted with compassion and assistance to make a solution as smooth as possible. They connected us with Randy who immediately zoomed across the lake to bring us loads of ice and a new fridge. Randy had impeccable customer service and even provided some fishing tips. Upon arrival and in departure of the marina staff were at the ready to load up the houseboat with all of our belongings and unload everything. They also gave us rides to our cars making transportation to and from seemless. They were friendly, eager to help, and proactive. Finally, at the end of our trip I spoke with the main man Ryan during check out who was very accommodating, fair and helpful given the circumstances. I have booked memorial weekend houseboats through Jones Valley Resort for the last two years and they are by far the nicest and easiest resort to use. Starting with booking, their team on the phones are always very helpful, even when dealing with thousands of people calling them for booking on the busy memorial weekend. I had to call back a few times to ask clarifying questions and was always treated with the utmost respect and never made to feel like i was dumb for asking. Upon arriving, the QuadSquad will assist you with loading your houseboat and make the start to your vacation as easy as possible. It is truly A+ service of which the likes is not found at other resorts that are not Jones Valley or Silverthorn. The boats themselves are always a great time as well. I have booked the Odyssey the last two years and it is amazing. Very easy for our captains to drive, stable on the water, easy to manoeuvre, and has a great interior. The grill on the front deck and the kitchen make it so any meal you want can be cooked just like at home, but with the views and fun of being on lake shasta. The hot tubs are also always a pleasure when the sun goes down. I also personally want to thank the Jones Valley manager, Ryan. He is a very good listener and is very understanding to the experiences of his guests. We rented a basic patio boat for our party of 7. It was plenty of room. We brought aboard two folding chairs for extra seating. Unfortunately while cruising on the lake, we experienced engine issues. We called the marina and they send a mechanic out right away. The problem could not be fixed at that time. We were given the option of coming back tot he marina to exchange boats, but that would've taken up a good chunk of our day, so we opted to make do and put up with the issue. On return of the boat, Ryan did not charge us for fuel and gave us a one day rental for a future date. Nice work Jones Valley! read more

We had a wonderful experience renting the Odyssey houseboat from Jones Valley for four days. Interestingly, the minor challenges we faced only highlighted the excellent service. When we discovered an issue with our initial boat, the entire crew immediately jumped into action, transferring all our belongings so we could depart in less than 30 minutes. Although we encountered other mechanical issues later, the crew was consistently swift, professional, and friendly in their response. A couple of things to keep in mind... You are expected to bring your own food (obviously) but in addition, you need to bring your own bedding. This may not be a major issue for folks camping or bringing an RV but for those that expect a Hotel style service may need to plan better. Packing for the trip was a hassle. Wish management would consider making them available, even if it means tacking on an additional charge. The other issue has to do with going during off season. While cheaper, Sea-Doo, Kayak, etc., are available only during the peak season. If you care for a full experience, off season may not be right for you. We loved our experience and highly recommend Jones Valley for an enjoyable houseboat vacation. read more

Jones Valley is hands down the best marina I've ever visited in my 15 years of boating all summer. We have rented houseboats out of nearly every marina on Lake Shasta and they don't hold a candle to Jones Valley. Over the last few years Bob would greet you in the parking lot, but this year we had Keith. I cannot say enough good things about Keith! The experience really starts in that parking lot. After hours on the road and screaming grumpy kids dying to get on the water, I cannot say how helpful it is to have a marina that has a guy stationed whose whole job is to greet you, call down to let the office know you've arrived, arrange the carts to come pick everything you've brought down to your houseboat and then gives you a ride down. All while having a great attitude and helping any and everywhere he can. Big shoot out to Keith! Then come in the carts with the most helpful boys you've ever met. They load all of your gear (doesn't matter how many trips, they get it done) then they help unload everything onto the boat. The office staff is amazing, Paula and Carrie are the sweetest most helpful ladies you've ever met. They give the whole check-in process a personal touch that makes you kinda sad when you have to leave them and go get back to your family lol Ryan was awesome too! The whole trip was amazing, best one in all 15 years we've been out on Shasta! Their houseboats are perfect, their staff is the most hospitable you'll find on any lake in the great state of California. They go above and beyond! Another shoutout to all the boys serving and orientating and getting boats set up. They work hard with a giant smile on their face. The entire staff puts you in lake mode! I think any bad reviews you're gonna see on here are inexperienced boaters that didn't take the time to ask the questions or take into account their limits. These guys are so helpful and walk you through everything and then some. My grandmother drove our houseboat and we had all the teens out there staking it, it was that damn simple. We have rented in the past and had honestly gone away from Jones Valley due to a poor experience in 2021. Due to timing and availability we booked with Jones Valley again this year. WOW, what a difference. This was a great experience and they have really streamlined the process. Things that were different. 1-in 2021 we sat on the dock for almost w hours before our boat was ready to load. This year, they contacted us in advance and scheduled our loading time. We had 11 people worth of food and gear loaded onto the boat within 20 minutes of arrival. Absolutely amazing. 2-the "quad squad" was not overloaded and getting pinged by 6 different customers since we were the boat scheduled for our specific time. They were in great spirits and they unloaded everything from our vehicles for us and handed it to us on the boat. It was great! 3- this may seem simple but every time I called they answered the phone (except once during lunch hour). I would call to work out little details. Tawnya was very friendly and always helpful. 4- everything on the boat worked! Boat was incredibly clean and we felt very safe and comfortable using everything on the boat while on the lake. At one point, we wanted to watch Game 7 of nba finals. We don't normally use the tv so we're not paying attention during the orientation to that part. I called the marina, they answered the phone and connected me with the av guy for the resort. I think his name was Gary. He was incredibly helpful!! 5-getting the boat in and out of the marina was very fast. Jeff drove us out and drove us back in. He was very friendly, a great driver and best of all, he was waiting on US.... We weren't waiting on him. Even better, he was the same person to do the final walk thru upon departure. He had everything done before we could even get things organized back in the vehicles. 6-Bob- that shuttled us to and from our vehicles was really on top of things. His efficiency and friendly attitude made our first and last memory of the trip a high note. All in all, Ryan, the manager has done and incredibly job turning this place around. Based on this past experience I don't see any reason to go anywhere else and from my experience, the other places charge more. Well done to the entire Jones Valley Resort team!! read more

We checked out a day early. We were scheduled to stay from Monday to Friday. We left early due to a few reasons. First when we checked in the actual employees who help guide you to where to park and help haul your stuff are AMAZING! They work hard in the heat! Ryan. He needs an attitude adjustment. I don't care what he offers to the company, his customer service is less than stellar. He was rude, and yelling at my husband and my father-in-law. Yelling in their faces. Unprofessional. The rest of the staff works hard, and services with a smile. The boat itself is dated. It needs a serious deep clean. They require you to clean and mop the boat before you check out, and I'm guessing that the next guest gets the boat in whatever condition the previous guest decided to leave it in. With that being said, the floors in our boat were nasty. The toilet seats were chipped and looked as if they need to be replaced. Disclaimers that you should know before booking that they don't tell you... Bring bedding, sheets, and blankets. Wifi is unsecured and shotty Yes, the boat has AC but you have to turn it off at night. They didn't clean the return air filter, so thankfully we had an engineer in our group who made themselves handy and did a simple fix. Otherwise, the AC didn't work properly. Gas is Uber expensive! 1/4 of the tank was $160. $1000 hold on your card until you check out on top of the boat fee reservations. I do see the employees hustling, and working hard, but the boat conditions were grimy. Proceed with caution. For a $5000 trip, I expected to feel comfortable and not like I had to keep my shoes on the entire time. read more

Such an amazing experience! We went in the middle of July with about 14 people. We will definitely be back. Everything worked properly and the staff were super friendly and helpful. They brought our luggage from our car directly to the boat in the hot sun and assisted us with all of our millions of questions and were very detailed in the orientation too. There was a cooler on the top deck and on the back deck which is helpful for big groups like us. There were tons of beds for everyone and the amenities were exactly what we needed. Our boat had a fully stocked kitchen with a dishwasher, toaster, microwave, cooking utensils and even a trash compactor! It was awesome to sit and sip coffee on the back deck and then slide down the slide by afternoon. We went kayaking and floated on the lake for hours. We got to hot tub in the rain one night watching the lightning in the distance. Thank you Jones Valley, we will see you next year! read more

If I can give Jones Valley Resort zero stars I would. My family and I rented a house boat in July for 4 nights. We made the best of it regardless of the nightmare we experienced starting with customer service. Everyone who worked there was rude whenever we had questions regarding the houseboat. It was a 110 degree day and made us sit for an hour before giving us an orientation and when we asked them about why it's taking so long all they told us was they were understaffed, stressed and there's nothing they can do. We tried to be understanding but you are a business and we are paying big $$$ not our problem. The boat itself was dirty. Very dirty actually...there were what looked like food stains on the ceiling, doodoo stains on the walls in the bathroom, the curtains were horrid, the bbq on the upper deck was filthy dirty and I don't think it had ever been cleaned. That only worked for 1 day until it kept catching fire. The DVDs we rented for $4 each were terribly scratched and didn't work. The sterio system in the boat didn't work at all so no music the whole trip. The fridge was leaking and when I asked the guy who was giving us the orientation he lied to us and said he dropped some ice by accident that's why the floor was all wet. Well it leaked the entire time. I can go on and on but I think you'll get the point. Don't book with them! Hopefully they'll get there act together. I can say one nice thing they did was we rented jet skis for a day but ended up letting us have for 2 extra day no charge since they had to move there dock. The manager (Ryan) is rude and inconsiderate to his clients. He is condescending and not willing to understand other people's point of view. Our boat had multiple issues from the beginning. The A/C not working, the top sink flooding the second deck, and the toilets overflowing to the point where sewage was leaking all over our floor. We called the marina so they could help us fix the problems. At first, the sink flooding was "fixed" and then it leaked the second and third time. They also claimed that the A/C was fixed and never was. A large group of us in 110F degree weather on a boat with no A/C and somehow it was our fault. His response was to make us check out early and charge us $700 because it was their inconvenience to "have to clean the boat." (Which they would have to do regardless??) He was yelling at his customers and quickly dismissed their concerns when they were voiced. He basically blamed everything on us when in reality, it was faulty equipment and a very outdated boat all in which they did not take accountability for beforehand. SAVE YOURSELF THE HEADACHE AND DO NOT COME TO THIS PLACE! GREEDY AND VERY IMMATURE MANAGEMENT. read more

Find another marina to rent from. This place is ran poorly by Dan the dock manager who is bully and a liar. This man snatched the contract out of my friends hands and then he resorted to lying when we wouldn't back down to wanting to see what we had "signed off on". Refused to hear what we had to say. we had valid expectations of being compensated for all our losses. As we all know boating comes with bumps and unexpected issues but what we went through was ridiculous. It took 4 hours to check in and get our boat. We left at 9pm and we were expected to check the prop in the dark! The boat was Not the cleanest but ok we are on a lake. In addition to having broken screens and no working safety latches all through the boat we have a HUGE list of items broken and or missing items/ appliances. Here athings that didn't work. AC, radio, microwave, 2 out 4 burners, bathroom fan/light. On day 3 our fridge broke down....Tons of time wasted getting ice and docking at the marina for hours to get fixed not to mention. All the food that was spoiled and had to be replaced was a nightmare. Back on the dock all the employees openly express dislike for this so called manger. He refused to allow me to stay in the office because I was not on the contract but the truth is because he wanted to bully my friend and that can only be done when there are no witnesses. read more

Been here now 2x over a few years. The boat rental from start to finish was easy. They helped out great from loading up our stuff from the vehicles into some quad squad little trailers on the back of a quad and then the driver in the van to bring you to and from the dock while loading up. They only do this from a set time, but i know they shut down the shuttles, marina by 730pm. They will also give you a pass for each vehicle so you can park in the jones resort area. Yes lots of dirt and dust but to be expected you're at the lake!! They have a bunch of different types and sizes of house boats to rent. From small to the huge TITAN 3 levels and a swirly slide. Thats the one we want to rent next time for the family reunion vacation. You can even rent some kayaks, water tubing and other stuff for the lake to use. Some tips that we had found out that we didn't know when we had our pre-trip boat inspection and how to use items. 1. Hot tub on boat. If it doesn't heat up and it did before. Check the water level. Has to be 4 fingers or less from the jets. Once you fill it back up it will kick back on. Must be sensored some how. 2. Direct TV, when you shutdown the boats generator at bedtime and shutdown the power, make sure to reset the power button on the Direct TV box, so it doesn't have to look for a signal up top on the balcony, it sounds like a running washing machine or bathroom is running. The 2nd night it didn't stop and all throughout the boat heard it. Till we found the dish sensor ontop going crazy looking to find service. Went away after the box was turned back on and didn't have issue again. 3. When done and returning boat you have the post trip inspection. Pay attention like you should have in pre inspection and ask if you have any items that you have to pay for repair. Like a boat propeller damage. There will be normal paint scrapings but if said there is damage ask to see it, maybe they had you mixed with another boat. Or thought it was damaged, ask to see any of it, Who knows just be aware. In the end we had a good trip on the boat, help was great at times and not so helpful at other times. Lake still had some water at the end of September and the weather was still mid 90's. Still able to swim during the day but water was a bit cool, but very refreshing. Dogs are welcome, except inside the marina store. Our dog just turned 3 and made it on the houseboat adventure. He was good the only thing that made it a little ruff was the stairs going up or down to the deck levels. They are wide but very close with not a lot of ledge. So he ran up good but almost looked like he was doing some hand stands and going one leg at a time down. A few times i did hold him has it was late at night and 1st day. After thst he was good for the next few days. If you bring a furry pet/family, make sure they can do the trip or be ready to help them. A huge plus they did have grip tape on every stair and it was fairly new and held great. Have a great time and remember to wear life jackets! read more
