Despite the jet skis delivery and pick up to/from the lake being 30 minutes late each way, my family had a blast. Why the -2 stars? My family and I have been renting jet skis around the globe for years, and not once did anyone perform a post-use inspection. I have no problem with them performing a post-use inspection, but if you are going to do that, you need to also do a pre-use inspection in front of us. We were on the lake, away from debris and the shore, yet she said the jet ski sucked up something and was damaged. We were charged an additional fee for parts and labor for repairs. The thing is, if you didn't perform a pre-use inspection in front of the customer, how do we know this isn't previous damage? Do they do this to all unsuspecting customers? Who knows. Lesson learned for next time. read more

They navigated my nephew and I 68 miles down the Sacramento River...They know the river well, they were very professional and knowledgeable of the rivers hazardous spots and the surraunding terain...We had lunch on a sucluded beach. Later in the day we met the whole Knight family Tabitha Chris's wife and there lovely daughter Tessa. Tabitha from Action Sports Rentals was the only bad part of my trip to Shasta. She was disorganized, disrespectful, unprofessional, rude, and immature. It started out with my dad paying for my paddleboard for the weekend and then letting Tabitha know I would be the one picking it up. I received a text from Tabitha asking about when I could pick up the board, I told her what time would work for me and assumed I would be picking it up at the address listed on their website because I wasn't told otherwise. My party and I arrived at the address to find an empty warehouse building with no signs. After attempting to call a few times we finally got through to Tabitha and she claimed she told my dad we needed to arrange a pickup spot as they were in between locations. And while she did tell my dad that, she never followed up to arrange a pick up location with either myself or my dad. Once we agreed on a pickup spot on the phone, we were told it'd be a 30-40 minute wait. It ended up being over an hour waiting in the summer heat. After an hour and a half of waiting Tabitha finally showed up and gave her apology and excuses for the wait, saying that things were "frantic." She brought out a paddleboard with no fin and insisted I'd be fine and gave me a paddle for someone 6 foot and taller. I am a 5'5 teenage girl. The tall paddle and no fin made it incredibly difficult to paddle and I was constantly behind my party the entire time paddling. After picking up the paddle board, we were told she could pick it back up "any time, anywhere." But when I told her she could pick it up at the lake 20 minutes from town she said she'd charge more for her to pick it up at the lake. After telling her we requested that she pick it up there after she assured us "any time, anywhere" she texted "OK yea I did but I meant in town not at the lake. I should have been more specific I guess." Obviously as a business you need to specify your restrictions and if there is a possible pickup charge you absolutely need to let the customer know. After this, we settled on a pickup spot at a gas station in Redding and when updating her on when we'd get there I got unprofessional responses like "cool" or "K." That's no way for a business owner, let alone a grown adult, to be responding especially after being so disorganized and disrespectful. When dropping off the board I began to mention how I was unhappy with my service and she continued to talk over me and make excuses for herself. As the customer I should be able to give feedback on the business and she was making it incredibly difficult by raising her voice at me. She kept refuting my criticism with "I've been in this business for 8 years" as if that excused her behavior. We had a great time in Shasta and when looking back, the only part I didn't enjoy was having to negotiate with Tabitha while I was literally in the middle of a lake on a paddle board that didn't even work right. read more

We had a great experience renting from Action Sports. I called on a Tuesday or Wednesday to see what we should do if we were hoping to rent kayaks that following Saturday and we found out there was the big float going on starting at the Sundial Bridge that same day. After a few phone calls back and forth to find out more info, we were able to reserve two kayaks since we were coming from out of town and it was a busy day of renting for them. We were asked to arrive before 9:30 and we when we got there at 9:15 we were set right up. She (unfortunately I don't remember her name) helped us load the kayaks in the truck, let us take two life jackets, and even gave us an extra strap to hold them in the truck while transporting. We rented the kayaks for the full day which was $30 per kayak and a good deal in my opinion. She asked us to call 30 mins before we would be dropping the kayaks off so we did but was no one there when we arrived since they were running back and forth that evening. She instructed us to just leave everything out front since they were around the corner. We ended up seeing other employees on the way out, as we stayed to make sure they were brought inside without any mishaps (sketchy people on bikes had their eyes on them). Overall, we had a great, easy experience and we would definitely rent from Action Sports in the future! read more

We were driving over to Mt. Shasta from Eureka and boys 16 and 20 were going to be needing something to do other than a hike in 100 degree heat when we arrived in the area around noon. Found Action Sports Rental on Google and Yelp and reviews were solid. We rented two Jet Ski's for 4 hours. Tabitha was friendly, flexible and got us on the water as quickly as possible. For an extra $90 she towed the jet skis and unloaded/loaded them. Absolutely worth it as she took us to a boat ramp I wouldn't have found by myself and it made the entire excursion stress free. It really was as simple as show up, sign waiver, pay, and ride jet ski's for 4 hours. Rates were reasonable and allowed our family of four to have a "lake day". Highly recommend. read more

Fun to spend a day the 4-seater OHV cruising around Cappie Shasta, high above Lake Shasta. Bring an iPhone loaded with downloaded music, because the sound system in this baby rocks. But there is little cell service, so you're not streaming. Also there is no connection for Android phones or any other input. Bring a picnic lunch, and enjoy it at Bohemotash Camp at the top of the mountain, looking out over the lake. Very cool! After picking up at their site, they trailered out to the Shasta Dam, and then later came to pick it back up. The owners were helpful and friendly. read more

Highly recommend this place. The jet skis were great quality, trendy and fast and fun. Not your typical rental looking crap. The service was impeccable, the owner answered right away and accommodated us the entire trip, from making sure the ski was ready to go when we pulled up, and helpful with everything we needed. TLDR: Showed up to rent a paddle-board that we reserved over two weeks ago for a 3 day trip and after initially being told that they forgot and it would be a minor delay, were eventually told that they reserved the boards for someone else the next day and we needed to go rent from someone else (Headwater Adventure Company) ******************* I couldn't wait to leave an awesome review for this business, right up until the time they ruined our paddle-boarding trip that we had been planning for over a month. We were planning a three day trip down the Sacramento River from the Sundial Bridge down to Red Bluff, camping along the way. Here is a brief recap of our encounters with Chris and his wife Tabitha who run the business. T-minus 1 month to trip - Called the shop to ask about rates, available equipment, and rental policies. Spoke with Tabitha. She was friendly, answered all my questions. Said we could Said since we were coming in on Friday we wouldn't have any trouble getting a board. Overall good experience. T-minus 2 weeks to trip - We were literally having a planning meeting with the group (maps, spreadsheets, etc.). Our group was serious about nailing out all the details. Called the shop with a few questions and spoke with Chris. He was awesome. He offered recommendations about where to park, camping spots, and even offered to take all our gear to the put-in spot in his trailer. We were really pumped after talking with Chris. We confirmed a reservation for a paddle-board. We asked about paying for it in advance and he said it wasn't necessary. He had us written down and the board would be ready. The only minor hiccup is he promised to text us a picture of a map that we never received, but that wasn't a big deal. T-minus two days to trip - Called to get a couple specific details about the board. Spoke with Tabitha. She seemed to know about our reservation, but the conversation was quick and she answered my main questions. Again, was promised a picture (this time of the board) that we didn't receive. TRIP DAY!!! Super excited to get up and start our weekend. Drive over 3 hours to Redding to get the board and put in. Show up at the shop and NO ONE IS THERE. Call the number on the door and Tabitha answers. Tabitha - "Oh, I totally forgot you were coming. Let me see if I can get someone down there in 15 minutes. I will call you back" (mildly annoying, but not a huge deal) Me and the group (waiting for about 10 minutes with no call, so not sure if this is counting toward the 15 minutes). We finally decide to call back to see if we should be setting up equipment here (with the promised ride to the put in point) or if I should just drop the rest of the group off and come back. Tabitha - "Yes, Chris told me about this. I just forgot and wasn't sure what time you were going to be there. Sorry, it will be another 30 minutes. If you want the ride to the put in then I need to go home and get the trailer and it will be over an hour." When I asked why the timeline was getting longer, she said that she had another job and was with a client and she wasn't even sure how long it would be. She was still trying to work it out and she would call me back. I told her I would go drop off the rest of the group and meet her back at the shop. Then she could just drop me without needing to go get the trailer. So, although frustrated, we are reasonably flexible and were making the best of an unfortunate situation. I drove the group to the put in and we were setting up the equipment. Tabitha eventually called me back. Tabitha - "yeah, I am not going to be able to rent you a board. I can't get to the shop and besides we rented all the boards for the weekend." Me - "What do you mean you rented all the boards? I spoke with Chris and he said we were good. And you even said you knew we were coming." Tabitha - "Did you pay for the reservation?" Me - "No, I offered and Chris said it was unnecessary." Tabitha - "Well, I normally handle the reservations. And besides, I don't have a board to rent you. I could go get another one, but then I would be out that money. You can call Headwater Adventure Company. They will probably have a board you can rent." WTF!! We went from "sorry, give me 15 minutes" to "go rent from someone else even though you booked this two weeks ago and drove 3 hours to get it". I don't know if this was just an excuse because Tabitha couldn't find a way to get out of her conflicting appointment or not. But the result of just leaving us with no equipment on a trip that required a lot of planning was super lame and unprofessional. There wasn't even any help to make it right like calling to make sure the other place had a board. In the end, Headwater Adventure Company (who Tabitha recommended) made things right. They normally don't rent boards to go down the river, but they made an exception. They even opened on Sunday so we could return the board. read more

Very happy with our experience with ASR! We were able to make a last minute reservation for a couple jet skis this weekend. Prices are very fair compared to the local marinas on Shasta lake. Jet skis were in great condition and Tabitha was very informative and helpful! Highly recommend! read more

To be honest, I didn't rent from here, as we have our own jet skis. As we tried to launch ours, we discovered we had a dead battery. Chris happened to be there at the same time, went to his truck and got a jumper set. Saved us a ton of time and hassle. Thanks so much Chris... Beware of this business, Tabbitha canceled our UTV rental the morning of our reservation, she advised that UTV's had been in a accident and could not accommodate my family. She had taken a $450 down payment that she advised would be refunded to my credit card, that was in May 2022, it is now October 2022 and no refund yet. I have voicemail's, texts and emails advising refund would be issued but it never has. Please beware of this very dishonest business. read more

We rented a tandem kayak for a day at Whiskytown Lake. We showed up 30 minutes late to check out their last kayak, which the girls had put on hold for us, and they were still all smiles for us! Had to check it back in by seven, which is super reasonable. We had a great time on their behemoths of a kayak which was 14 feet long with our dog. Highly recommend, Chris and his wife are very nice and reasonable people. read more

I cannot give a high enough rating to Tabitha at Action Sports Rentals. We rented 2 Jet Skis from ASR over Memorial Day weekend and it was a fantastic customer service experience. I don't normally write reviews, but we were so impressed that we had to share. I had called every marina at Lake Shasta looking to rent jet skis for the weekend and the marinas were either not renting yet for the season, or had decided to not rent this year due to insurance costs. Someone finally recommended that I give ASR a call. Not only did they have skis available for us, but they even offered to deliver and pick up the skis so that we did not have to drive into town in our motorhome. Then, after Tabitha had delivered the skis to us at Lake Shasta, she ended up coming back out first thing on the second morning to personally replace the wear ring that broke on one of the skis (our fault, not ASR's that the wear ring broke). The whole repair process took about 40 minutes. When we first alerted her to the problem, she helped us to diagnose it over the phone while on the lake. All of the rest of their jet skis had already been rented out for the weekend, so they were not able to swap us out for a new ski, however, she did call me back later that evening to say that one had been turned back in early to see if we still wanted to swap. Unfortunately, we did not get the message until later that night, but the repair went very smoothly and we were back to playing in no time. Everyone in our group, a lot of whom work in customer service in one fashion or another, were very impressed with the level of follow up and service we received. Just before we were getting ready to head back to the boat ramp for Tabitha to come and pick up the skis, the kids ran over a tow rope and it got sucked up into the impeller of the ski. We ended up having to tow that ski back to the dock, which made us about 15 minutes late for our scheduled pick up time. Tabitha was so kind and understanding and even gave us a break on the labor cost to extract the rope (which took 3 hours back at the shop later that evening). We will ABSOLUTELY be renting from ASR again in the future and I highly encourage you to give them a call if you are looking into renting toys in the Redding/Shasta area. Highly recommend Tabitha and action sports rental. We had a covid get away weekend with the family and had a great time with great memories. We rented the jet skis for one day and the utv (4 person off road vehicle) and had a great time! Tabitha talked with me, my wife, and kids about us and found the best place on the lake for our family. With the utv, she recommended the perfect trails for our family and level of expertise with off-roading. They are certainly not one of the big companies which is what I like. The owner and his wife are really cool. Good customer service, local business. I rented two paddle boards from them last weekend. They were just moving in to their new location but Chris came down to the shop and met me at whatever time I wanted. He even let me borrow a strap to tie down the boards in my truck. Their rates were really good. Better than any other place in town.. Since I was the first one to rent out the paddle boards they even gave me a coupon for a free rental which was awesome. They have other stuff to rent, ATV's, kayaks, etc. and the rates for those are reasonable as well. The paddle boards were the hard plastic kind, nothing fancy, but good for beginners. They didn't have any inflatables, so if your going to rent one you need a rack or a truck. Love this place...its literally a shop of fun! I rented one of Chris's Seadoo's cause I thought it would make for an awesome first date..and it definitely delivered. Not only was it the best first date I ever been on but the girl I took said the exact same thing. If your looking to have some fun this summer definitely hit up Chris and he will take care of everything..all you do is bring the sunscreen. I'll be telling all my friends about this place. I wanted to like this business -- my parents lived in Redding for 25+ years and I like to support local small businesses. However, I was very disappointed in their customer service. We were on our yearly vacation to Lake Shasta and decided to rent a jet ski from ASR. We drove down from the lake on the scheduled day to pick up the jet ski and found no one at the business. After I called, it was determined that the wife of the owner was having a c-section that morning. Super exciting to have a baby -- but you could have had someone call us so that we didn't make the hour + round-trip drive into town. The woman said that she would try to figure something out and would call me back. She didn't, so we sat in front of the shop for 30 minutes waiting. I called her back and she asked if we could come back in 3 hours -- no, we were on vacation. She then asked to call me back again, which she did, and graciously offered to bring the jet ski to us that evening. The delivery was supposed to be at 4:45, we waited until almost 5:30 at the launch ramp when two nice young guys showed up with a small jetski. I let them know that I had already been charged the full amount for a 5 day rental, despite this delay in getting the jet ski. They called the owner and told me that the charges had NOT been put through, this was just a "hold" on the funds. I later determined that the full amount had been charged before we even had the jet ski. They gave a quick review of how to start it and that was all. The whole reason we rented the jet ski was to get a few people at a time off of our boat. Unfortunately, this jet ski was small. It was a two seater, but a normal sized adult would need to have a child with them or else it was just too uncomfortable. It also would have been nice if the guys who delivered the jet ski had let us know where the gas tank was. Sounds simple, but it took quite a while at the gas dock and several guys coming over to help, to determine that the gas was under the seat so you had to get completely off the thing to fill it up. The seat didn't want to open so it was a struggle just to figure out if that was where the gas was. We returned the jet ski early as it just was a bit small for what we hoped. I called before driving again into town, to make sure someone was going to be there at the shop around noon, and the wife of the owner thought that the time we were planning to return the jet ski "might be okay". Really? In the end, they had us deliver the jet ski to a different business as they were not going to be in their shop. I then had to follow up twice to get a credit for the day that we did not have the jet ski, with no recognition of the inconvenience we experienced during a vacation. All in all, I just felt that the customer service aspect was not good, the jet ski was not what was in the picture on the website, and the struggle just to get the jet ski and then return it was really disorganized. read more
