Bella shared so many great animal facts with us and was so patient and kind, answering our questions. This is an approved Girl Scout field trip spot so i would highly recommend this to other troops too. Our girls were 3rd graders, great age. We earned the outdoor adventurer badge by doing this today!

The property is well-maintained, clean (well, as clean as a farm gets) and orderly. Staff are thoughtful, attentive and at ease with the day-to-day management of the horses, and their owners :) The owner, Lisa, is a lifelong equestrian and displays the innate skills to run the operations, instructional services, boarding, training and other requirements of the farm, while maintaining a safe environment. She exhibits a deep understanding of the horse psyche. There is a sense of unity amongst owners, riders and staff. I think it is a happy place. As I have relocated to the West Coast, I miss all things EDF. Were I to return to New England, this would be my choice. Thanks EDF staff!!!

Alpacas shearing happened already (spring) so if you want to see them with full fur, staff told us to return in Nov. They are still cute :) Tour runs 45 mins long and we get to feed and pet them. I am so bad with names but I know one is called Summer. Two pregnant mamas and one baby on the ranch! On the way out, please put a donation in the jar or make a purchase at the store. Plenty of cute socks, sweater, etc. Please note that you will smell alpaca spit (or musty odor) when you enter the shop/ranch and even after you depart. Don't wear fancy clothes.

Each week, members get the chance to go out into the fields and harvest certain fruits, vegetables, and herbs themselves -- it's such a fun, hands-on way to connect with the food and the land. Our 2.5-year-old absolutely loves it and has become completely obsessed with anything farm-related! The staff is incredible -- friendly, knowledgeable, and always welcoming. We've never done it before and it was a BLAST! $1 each try so we each did $5. They had a cute area with a little town made of wood and skeletons doing funny things that you could take pics with like a saloon, jail, checkers, and mortuary. We also took a picture of the iconic pumpkin wall that is all over IG. Then we got in line for the donuts. So hot, fresh and cinnamony and cakey! The line moves fast. We also wondered into the grocery area. Really picture perfect fruits and vegetables like if Whole Foods had a farm, this is what it would look like. It's beautiful. This is literally the best farm I've ever been to. I would definitely come back to this one if I'm ever in the area in October again.

We went to check out the pumpkin wall after seeing it on social media…read more The place was packed on a Saturday afternoon, but traffic flowed pretty smoothly and they had plenty of parking, so we didn't have to wait long to find a spot. The pumpkin wall was cool to see, but what pleasantly surprised me was discovering that this is also a great farm with lots of fresh products. The checkout lines were long, although I imagine they're probably much shorter once the pumpkin wall attraction is no longer there. I'd probably come back again next year, but I would definitely avoid going during peak weekend hours.

Last year I snapped a few pics of the parking lot because I was shocked by the rows upon rows of cars. The hayrides may as well have been greyhound buses packed to capacity! Everywhere I turned there was a mass of people and more ways to subtract money from my pocket. At the time I wondered if an orchard existed where we could go pick apples and enjoy being outside, in nature, on a nice fall day. I was doubtful. We did our thing and went home and that was it. I didn't think about it again. Then, this morning, my wife declared this to be our annual apple picking day. We moved recently and wanted to stay close so we chose Autumn Hill Orchard in Groton. As soon as we got there my memories and thoughts from the previous year came flooding back. This was that place, that for one moment in time I hoped would exist. There was a completely reasonable number of people visiting for a day such as today. It was beautiful. We picked apples, strolled about, had a picnic and got some pumpkins. The grounds are picturesque and the surrounding scenery and views are amazing. They weren't churning out little money donuts or trying to draw crowds with animals, mazes, configurations of hay, or any other distractions. We got to focus on the apple orchard, the amazing day and most importantly each other. As always, keeping it simple, natural and beautiful is the best way to go. If you want an unnatural sea of cars and people and lots of amusements and goods for sale, this isn't your place. If you want to get away from all that madness and have a peaceful experience, I don't think you could find a better spot.
