They've downsized the size of their single serve pies from 12 oz to 8 oz, yet they kept the price the same at over $4.00 each. WTF!!!!

They also really need to clean the fish tanks in the reptile area. Still a great experience they just need to clean up the place a little bit. Having said that I still recommend going, the animals are wonderful and very soothing the sheep don't jump up on you like other places and the giant horse Trucky is a very gentle giant.

Looking now, I realize the reviews and pics are from up to 8 years ago. I think the farm hasn't been maintained well since. We got there early and there was already a ton of animal poop in the pens and lots of trash all around left to rust. Some is charming, like an old tractor, some isn't like old broken buckets etc. My husband referred to it as "more of a looking zoo" as there isn't much interaction with the animals. You can only enter the very first pen of goats. All of the other animals are in pens that you cannot enter, or feed them. Then there is a tractor ride. We got on and had to wait about twenty minutes to go because they wanted a full ride. It goes through an incredibly bumpy trail through...a weed filled field. Branches hitting everyone along the way. At least we're in NH in the fall where even an unkempt field with giant power lines is pretty. It goes past some llamas toward the end which was cute. I think Carriage Shack Farm should focus on cleaning up the pens, pruning the hayride path and adding some animals to see on it. The Halloween blowup trail was unnecessary when there's clearly work that needs to be done. I might try again in a few years but currently the place does not look like the old pictures posted by past guests.

Supposedly this is the #1 ranked fall farm by Newsweek last year...I haven't been to any of the other ranked locations or a large number of non-ranked spots so can't validly compare - but from what I experienced I'd say this is top notch. It's definitely goes beyond a regular "pumpkin patch" and has things to see and do or taste for all members of the family. People of all ages find joy in apple picking, fighting the honeybees, playing with goats, and riding in a wagon. Older adults can enjoy photo worthy moments in the sunflower fields too! Unfortunately I didn't get the chance to taste other products from the farm store but I'm sure they're wonderful.

We purchased the tickets and the bag at the little ticket house. In order to enter the orchard, you present your tickets to the employee. The animal farm had goats, sheep and roosters and there is no fee to enter. There are feed machines which accept quarters so you can feed the animals and wash stations to clean up after. In that same area is a large sandbox with some pretty cool toys. In the back are the flowers and pumpkins. No fee to enter either, we got some nice pictures with the pumpkins. Those are priced based on size and there are 4 of them at the entrance with prices so you know how much you will pay for each size. Plenty of parking and handicap parking. It was a nice experience, a tad warm, but otherwise beautiful day and the employees were all friendly. We were there for about an hour. TIP: if you plan to feed the animals, bring a small envelope or cup (like the size of a condiment one) to hold the food pellets. Otherwise you just have to hold them in your hand. The sheep area was loaded with flies, but towards the back barn part (near the sandbox), there were very few flies and a better goat feeding experience. To get 5 stars, it would be nice if: 1) They trimmed the grass in between the orchards at bit. It was really thick and high and very challenging for the toddlers to walk through, especially with so many hidden, dropped apples. 2) There was more than 6-8 pellets per quarter. 3) The store had a bit more selection. They did have honey sticks, donuts (which were just ok), some produce and T shirts. Maybe offer other locally made candy or goods to offer a more fun shopping experience.

It also has a wine bar and a section to buy knick-knacks, tshirts and hoodies. I would say it's most known for their apple picking but they offer other picking options depending on the season. I went here yesterday and it's not quite apple picking season, but you could pick your own flowers or berries. It's also so fun coming here in the fall when they have a whole pumpkin patch of available pumpkins out on display. So pretty. I love walking around the country store. I grew up with my family coming here just about every summer or fall, and we still make a visit at least once a year. Not much has changed because it doesn't need to.

To get to the orchard for apple picking, you can either take a hay ride (for a fee of a few dollars) or walk (roughly 10 minute walk on well marked trail). Don't skip the Apple cider donuts! There is a food trailer outside where you can get them made fresh! Inside the farm store, you can get locally sourced items, baked goods, wine flights, and ice cream! There is a seating area connected to the farm store or you can grab a picnic table or bench on the lawn.
