Having lived on the Northern Beaches for close to 30 years and not ever trying this legendary dining experience (no idea why , huh ) had the pleasure of taking my wife to be from LA here for our anniversary Its everything i had heard about the aura of class and fine dining hits you as soon as you are greeted by front of house and the rest is an experience not to be forgotten Views over the beautiful blue Pacific that go on for ever set the mood for a long and luxurious afternoon dining on food so beautifully presented fresh and flavourful its well worth the drive ( park close and walk or park closer and get an uber as onsite parking is limited - don't let that stop you, for what you are paying an uber is all part of it plus the extensive wine beer and cocktail list helps make that decision easier ) Hiramasa Kingfish starter for me and Moreton bay bugs for my weary traveller was a perfect start setting up our mains beautifully Roasted lamb for me and Black Angus Beef for my girl both cooked perfectly rare as ordered and accompanied with pancetta minted peas , salty crunchy hand cut potato's and a salad with radish walnuts and dates . . just a great combination We looked at each other twice before ordering a dessert to share as it didnt feel complete without it so we had the Vanilla mascarpone meringue . . next level artistry texture and flavour and a perfect finish with coffee, conversation and debate over which dish was the star . . Neither of us drink alcohol but having done so for many years the suggested pairings that accompany each course look bang on and if that doesn't suit the palate the wine spirit and aperitif menus are extensive Only problem for us was leaving Sydney soon after this meal to move to LA and not being able to get back there soon enough but return we will thanks to all the staff for making our first visit a memorable one read more

Jonah's is one of those places that sits on your to-visit list for a while because it is a bit of a tricky location on the Northern Beaches. However, NOW is the time to go, as the whales are passing by, and you are almost sure to see some from the delightful terrace. The restaurant is delightfully decorated, and the location is absolutely stunning, with views that are unbeatable. All the tables have some sort of a view, although as we were in the middle of the restaurant we were somewhat limited - however the helpful wait staff moved us to the window when some folks left, in time for desert and coffee. To be clear, this is a pricey spot - you will pay top dollar for a meal, however the food is delightful to the eye and the palate, with a robust selection of mains and entrees, an amuse bouche that was delightful, and fantastic bread to start. We arrived a little early to have a cocktail on the veranda - lovely outdoor seating with a stunning view, the martini chilled to perfection, and the cosmo to her satisfaction. As our table was ready we moved through quite quickly, but no real hurry - staff were accommodating and we had a look at the menus and the wine list while we lingered outdoors. Some fantastic wines including a very expensive Mollydooker that took my eye and our breath away - I could not resist, as it was a kind of special occasion. So, why not 5 stars? In this day of fine dining everywhere, I reserve the 5 stars for the very best or the unexpectedly fantastic. Jonah's is a 4.5 star, but to be honest there was nothing in the meal that made us go Wow! I could eat that all night! It was all beautiful and tasty and delightfully presented - but that is what I expect for a meal of this calibre and price. In any event, an experience not to be missed, highly recommended. Paid for lunch and flight to and from the restaurant from Sydney. 1. Plane did not take us back and we had to take a car service back. The flight and meal was about 400 per person. Not really their issue 2. Ended up with a $400 incremental charge for lunch from the original charge. Sure part of that was a bottle of wine, but basically I felt like there was a bait and switch. A German Wine tasting and 4 course meal special tonight,, and so far,, have been tasting the most extraordinary Rieslings that will make you think twice about that name. Arrived 45 mins early, but were grealeted by our friendly host with some of the most extraordinary wines. 6 o'clock hit and the canapés started to roll out,, lightly smoked trout with dwarf peaches and citrus, Rabbit Terrine with chutney and pumpernickel,, and Bratwurst croquettes (unbelievable) Standing there for an hour, mixing with the people, drinking and eating was one of the nicest and friendliest experiences I've had for a while. Our Host Christian Nett, a third generation winemaker from Germany kept us all informed with the different types of wines, and everything that goes with an expert to a pure novice when it comes to tasting and flavours. Appetiser: Squid Ink Spaetzle, broad beans, quark and salted salmon roe- A-maz-ing. Each on its own does nothing, but as soon as you have every part in your fork,, my god,, what an amazing burst of flavour. Entree: Roasted breast of duck, cooked duck yolk, fennel, Broad beans and shaved kohlrabi- can I say I've never had a piece of duck that looked like a fillet of beef/venison,, and what a flavour the skin and yolk/fennel sauce added to this dish. So far this the best meal in Sydney to date. Main Course: Spiced venison with pickled vegetables, foie gras, sweet potato purée, crisp sausage- I'll let the picture I took explain to you the way a plate of different flavours that can enter your mouth. Did not know,, but a pre dessert was offered, caramelised peach and white chocolate with praline,, together with a 2009 Dr Loosen "Wehlener Sonnenuhr" Riesling,, most welcomed addition. Dessert: Flavours of Black Forest cake with cherry, chocolate and cream- if yumminess could have any definitive definition,, this dessert does that exactly. Out of towner here, please take review with a grain of salt. We stopped in for tapas on the terrace, after a gorgeous hike to Barranjoey lighthouse. The food was nice, but nothing to write home about. It sounds like the dinner tasting menu would be delightful, especially during whale watching season. We ordered Sicilian anchovies and a prawn and calamari frito. Not a good choice if you prefer fresh tastes. I'm sure they made them the best way possible, but a plate of thin toasts, saturated with butter, dressed with a single sardine just wasn't satisfying to taste. The frito had a delicate, flavorless cornmeal crust. Served with lemons and a very, very mild mayo. It seemed a lot of clientele were French, so perhaps the tastes are geared more heavier and rich than my liking. If you are coming for the gorgeous view and gracious staff, you won't be disappointed. Somewhat offensive and the only restaurant I have ever walked out of. Restaurant air conditioning was cold to the point of extreme unpleasantness. That was okay by the waiting staff who were done up in their bow ties but cold to the point of callousness. Antarctic tooth fish is a wildly pretentious start to a menu which had the cool and brutal style of just trying to take the mickey out of their customers. Guaranteed to make you feel unwelcome if you come with sand between your toes. Avoid. Actually pay not to come here. read more

Nothing says "you only live once" like Jonah's does. This is one of Sydney's best kept secrets and a location where the finest cuisine is offered. Everything from a simple meal, 5 course meal and degustation is offered. With or without wine. I drop in every 3-4 months to get away from Sydney and have a coffee and cake with friends. The bar area is warm and cosy. The dining room and patio look out far across the ocean while the gastronomy rewards you richly for making the journey. I have been a visitor for the past 20 years. Crisp white linen tables are drenched with the eastern morning sunrise and a jaw dropping view of the Pacific Ocean. We choose to indulge in the set morning breakfast at Jonah's as our treat for nothing in particular. It is hard to imagine this same view can be possibly enjoyed in the evening. Our coffee, tea, breads and morning paper and menu arrive to interrupt our wondering thoughts. Even though we selected the set breakfast we were informed that we could order anything else from the menu also. My Salmon Eggs Benedict was the right portion with a light cover of creamy hollandaise and the slightest hint of lemon and a firm yet just enough runny enough egg . My partner's mexican chuervos inspired breakfast was enough for me to steal a morsel of the tortilla and the sunniest of eggs while he was checking details for the accommodation. Jonah's is of course silver service with just the right amount of attention, the waiters were there when we needed something and not constantly hovering over us which makes the view all the more enjoyable. The restaurant itself was packed this beautiful morning with holidaying couples and young families. High chairs are available to use in the main dining room. Parking on Bynya Road is limited to street parking and a few parking spots within Jonah's itself. It's about 45-50 minute drive from the city to Jonahs - allow more time to get there on Saturdays or Sunday afternoons. In Summer the City traffic descends upon Northern Beaches to get to one of the many beautiful beaches and in Winter the peninsular is chaotic with families racing around for Saturday sport traffic. Jonah's is unpretentious with its refined surroundings and a certainly one of those experiences a Sydneysider or a visitor must choose to enjoy in a lifetime. read more

We booked for lunch on a Monday, were visiting from overseas and had told them in advance that we wanted a window table and it was our anniversary. We didn't hear back so assumed all was fine. When we got there, the restaurant was empty and they refused to give us a window table and were quite rude in the process; as they clearly didn't want out business, we left. In the car park I heard the restaurant manager telling a hotel staff member about us and she said to him "Anton tell them to jump off a cliff". I couldn't believe it, do the staff here not understand how serious suicide is? How unbelievable that in this day an age they would speak about customers in this way. Forget the general rudeness and the lack of window table - I am deeply appalled at their attitude to mental health and strongly suggest they all undergo mental health training. What a day. We took the sea plane over from Rose Bay and a transfer up to the restaurant. Fantastic views and food really stunning. Often these sorts of places rely on their view and natural beauty, but the food suffers. Not so here. Had the snow crab starter with caviar and the best snapper I have ever had. All washed down with a wonderful Pegasus Bay Sav Blanc/Semillion blend. Well worth it for a unique and charming experience. read more
