Dunes restaurant has a feeling of casual colonial beach magic thats hard to put your finger on. It's a very pleasant place for a spot breakfast... old chap... if you know what I mean.
It's also fairly toddler friendly, which has recently become very important if I want to have someone else cook my breakfast on the weekend. There's plenty of space for the baby man to run around while we take it in turns to try and finish coffee.
My dish, the big breakfast, was very satisfying. But let's face it it's hard to get a big breakfast wrong. My better half had the eggs Benedict, and claimed its the best she's ever had.
The bill must have been reasonable, because I can't remember what it was, and I picked up the tab for four and a bit people.
They were short staffed on the day, though we didn't notice any delay in table service. I suspect someones eldest children had been roped in to help out. Our young waiter carried out our coffees like they might explode at any moment. He looked horrified when we ordered another round (I couldn't resist).
Will be back for breakfast and I'm keen to try Dunes for dinner, I've just got to line up that baby sitter. read more
