Swell has been a part of the Avalon cafe scene for years however I've only just realised what a little treasure this place is. It's a pretty simple layout with almost bench seating across one side and a few table sprawling onto the street. Clearly everyone else knew about this place because there is always a a couple people hanging around. They serve allpress beans and dish up quite a good cuppa for 'burbs coffee'- in fact it's the best coffee I've found in Avalon so far. I came here after a post beach lunch and went for the spinach, goat cheese, cherry tomato and avocado on rye toast which was pretty awesome- a solid half a star of this rating is attributed to that super tasty rye bread alone. They also do fresh juices- I tried the pineapple, mint, ginger and something juice which was pretty tasty. They staff were really chilled and friendly and the guy didn't care at all that I changed my order like 3 times. They were also going above and beyond to help give a recommendation to a couple not from around here about a nice restaurant in the area. This place is Swell! It's centrally located in the Avalon village right next to the pedestrian crossing on Old Barrenjoey Road. There are tables on the footpath and a handful of cozy tables inside the café. It's table service. A friendly, young surfer dude will take your order with a big smile. Come for breakfast. The breakfast menu is good. Check out my photos of the vegie stack and pea fritters. All press coffee. Bonsoy. Need I say more? Swell is open for tea and coffee, breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea. Amazing and vegan friendly! I stumbled in with a bad case of jet-lag and the barista could not have been more helpful. Soy and almond milk options were readily available and the mocha caffeine blast did wonders. I plan on returning daily :) read more

Pretentious and over-priced, claustrophobic and the coffee is tasteless. There are much better places for a coffee in Avalon than this.
