He did my back surgery (L5/S1) about 25 years ago. I got immediate relief after years of leg pain. I was literally walking a mile the very next day. He's an amazing surgeon and that's all that matters when it come down to it ... Some complain about long waits, some think he isn't a nice person (call him names), but he was a great surgeon for my husband and he/we did not mind that he was direct, to the point -- he did answer our questions in pre-op appointments and post-surgical appointments, he was reassuring that all looked good (my husband had a fusion from L3-L4-L5-S1 (that's a LOT of hardware... looking at the image, it looked like a little ladder was built, it's been 1-1/2 years, and my husband's is doing great. Fortunately we have a great advantage plan (with medicare) and my husband was able to go almost every week for a year, to continue working on building his core strength, and stretching. read more

Almost 2 weeks later and literally the day before I'm supposed to get my shot, they call to tell me I have not received authorization yet. Why? I ask. Because Dr white has not uploaded his notes yet so it hasn't gone into the system to get approved. WTF? It's been almost 2 weeks! What a joke! The only thing I was bothered about was he sent his PA's to see me in hospital. I never saw him until my post op visit almost 4 weeks from my surgery. I guess that's how things are done now. This man claims to be a physician and healer doesn't even touch the patient. He looks at the MRI or CT and asks questions but usually doesn't wait for the answers. He makes assumptions leading to extreme solutions, like surgery first, rather than possible more conservative options. He trashs previous surgeon's work and then discusses it with others outside the exam room. He is very arrogant and guarded in his behavior. It's to bad that he's part of a orthopedic group that is very highly rated. I don't know how he got in! read more

No clue how or why I was referred to this a-hole of a doctor but I should've looked up his poor yelp reviews before going. His only 2 treatment plans are surgery or pain management, that's it. He barely looked at my MRI images, just asked me for the report so he could regurgitate it. His patients are booked every 15 minutes so that tells you the quality of care you'll receive. Each time I waited 30-45 minutes to be seen which made me late to see my own patients. He kept bringing up my age of 35 as an indicator that my back pain isn't something he's worried about although I've been suffering with it for 17 years. Dr. White is a doctor I can trust. Since March 2024, I had been having back pain and leg numbness so I went to see an orthopedics doc. The doctor ordered the x-rays and MRI, and results showed my spinal cord was shifted and the nerve channel was narrow as a result. The doctor said that I had spinal stenosis and referred me to a specialist for epidural for pain relief. Longer term he told me that I need to consider surgeries. I thought this potentially life-change decision was made rather quickly so I decided to have a second opinion. I went to see Dr. White. He examined my x-ray and EMI images and told me I had spinal facet joint arthritis, in addition to spinal stenosis. He didn't think there was enough evidence to conclude my pain was caused by spinal stenosis (many people had spinal misalignment but don't have pain). He thought it was more likely my pain was caused by facet joints. He ordered me only painkillers instead of epidural shots. I have only taken painkillers once or twice since because the pain didn't get worse. I consider it is well managed. I want to thank Dr. White for his skills and care he put into his work. Because him, I stayed away from a far more aggressive, though a standard textbook like, treatment plan. read more

My husbands back was worse afterwards had to go someplace else. Mysteriously broken bone after he did surgery and ended up with a hole or burn on top of thigh we don't know how it got there. Really love this doctor. He's very knowledgeable and helpful. Gave me really effective advice about my problem and one thing I can appreciate is that he values time and gets straight to the point. Dr. White checked my scans and evaluated me. Revealed an issue I had since way back and had no idea about, that was contributing to my current pain. I'm glad he brought it to my attention so I can fix it. The staff here are super friendly and helpful too. The wait also wasn't long at all. I didn't need to say too much about my problem because the scans say a lot and the doctor knows what questions to ask so that information is kept relevant. I appreciate that. I will keep following up on my healthcare here for sure. read more

My GP referred him to me when he suspected that I had a herniated disk. I had lower back pain and numbness that went all the way down the back of my right leg and foot. Because of potential nerve damage, I got an MRI and saw Dr. White 3 days after I saw my GP. When I first met him, I was a bit intimidated. One, he's got a big voice (which is normal for him), and two, he thought that I didn't grasp the seriousness of the situation (my herniated disk was about 15cm long - the biggest he's seen so far this year) and made it obvious that he was annoyed by it. In my defense, I've never had a serious health problem before, and everything was all happening so fast. Speaking of fast, he scheduled for me to have surgery (microdiscectomy) 4 days later at St. Joseph's. Of course I had my doubts. My family kept on asking me to get a second opinion, but I trusted my GP (of 12yrs) when he said that he wouldn't go to any other orthopaedic surgeon (my family thought they were in on it together - LOL). Besides, it's already a bad sign when you've got severe pain and barely any control of your entire right leg and foot. I did my homework though. I found that on other medical related review sites, he had a reputation for being arrogant but highly skilled. I didn't feel that he was arrogant, but he was definitely very confident and sure of what he does. And just like he said, the surgery went very well. I didn't even stay at the hospital for 24hrs (ok, I was desperate to go home so I rushed the nurses to discharge me as soon as I got the ok from the PT - there's no place like home, right?). Bottom line - he is indeed very skilled. I'm still healing, but my suture is only about 1~1.5in in length. Very clean, minimal scarring. Through my follow-ups, I found that he is very anal and detail-oriented. Everything he does is to the point, no messing around. I would definitely recommend him to anyone who needs back surgery. Oh, and he seems to like kids. He softened up after I kept bringing my 4yo daughter to my visits. read more

I first saw Dr White in November due to pain in my neck and tingling and numbness down my left arm. His office, including Katie were nothing but amazing. My experience was amazing. They jumped through hoops to get me in right away. It was less than 30 days from the first appointment, to the MRI, to the surgery which was a miracle due to the amount of pain I was in. It was easy to get the medication to make me comfortable. The follow up appointment was great. I highly recommend this doctor, this facility, and his team. Great Job Dr. White! My sister had two very successful surgeries by Dr. White. I've been suffering with neck and back pain for more years than I care to admit. She has been telling me to go see him for years. I finally was able to make it to California to have the surgeries. I am scheduled for the first of two surgeries in two weeks. Due to some delays because of Thyroid Cancer it has been a huge hassle getting everything done and getting the clearance to finally have this surgery. I had to postpone the original surgery date of June 3rd and have a radical neck dissection. Dr. White caught the bad lymph nodes on an MRI before surgery. Thank God he did! I have put his Practice Administrator, Debbie Black through the wringer for sure. through all of the mess, she always remains professional and most of all compassionate. She never once made me feel like I was inconveniencing them and only made me feel that she had my best interest at heart. I've been through a lot in the past 4 years medically, and it is refreshing and wonderful to deal with a surgeon and staff that are so wonderful. Dr. White made me feel so comfortable and confident. I think he is very personable and I know he will do a good job with my surgeries. I am travelling all the way from Maui to have these surgeries done by him. I wouldn't trust anyone else to do these surgeries on me. I have every confidence that he will do an outstanding job. I'll update this review post op. My husband was in a car accident and he needed a special type of neck surgery where they take part of a cadaver bone and go through the front of his neck. Being an avid backpacker, he was concerned, but I have worked with orthopedists for years and knew Dr. White had done this kind of prior surgery. My husband had the surgery 5 years ago and goes backpacking yearly carrying at least 50 to 60 pounds. His neck is in great shape. With this being stated, Dr. White is all business. If you want the straightshooter, who does an excellent job, he is the specialist for you. Forget the "warm and fuzzy" personality! His job is to get the best medical result! This physician saved my life! Do not believe the recommendations that he is arrogant. He is professional all the way. If you want someone to stroke your soul, see a counselor or your pastor. In 1998 he performed a fusion on my neck, C-6. Before that time I lived in chronic pain. I used to drive my two young kids to school holding my neck with one hand, and the steering wheel with another. Since that time I have had virtually no pain, and two years after the surgery, I gave birth to another child. I did my homework before the surgery and found other surgeons in the field telling me that they couldn't do a better job than Dr. White. Dr. White takes his job seriously, he doesn't candy-coat anything, he is thorough, and professional. Fifteen years later, I'm still going strong! read more

I was originally referred to Dr. White by my GP. I then found information validating he was an excellent orthopedic surgeon. My first visit with him was in 2005. At that time he had absolutely no bedside manner, and I did not at all care for him. He recommended a steroid shot into my spine. When I went to outpatient I learned he did not offer anything to relax me, and no pain meds. I had the injection cold turkey and I can't tell you how painful it was! However it worked, so I was grateful. It was recommended recently I see an orthopedic so I reluctantly went back to see Dr. White last week, as he had previous records and I really didn't know who else to call with such short notice. I found that he is now with a large group and the waiting room was quite large. The furniture was painful to sit in. It was without a doubt the most uncomfortable furniture I have ever experienced in any doctors office! Furthermore the only magazines were medical and sports magazines. Can't say I was stimulated to indulge. I waited for 45 minutes, which felt like an eternity, and was then taken back to a room, where I waited another 30 minutes. No apologies or thank you's for waiting or for my patience. Dr. White spent all of 10 minutes with me. I had questions and concerns, but he appear to want to give me the time of day. He told me he would ask the questions! He treated me in a very demeaning manner regarding the MRI I had brought with, the reading, and who had prescribed it for me. He had absolutely no regard for my concerns. I have fallen to the ground 4 times over the past few months, in great pain, feeling like I cannot walk or move. I was hoping for some sort of consultation as to why this is happening and if there might be something I can do to help myself, and exactly what I might want to be concerned about. No such luck. Dr. White came off as very arrogant, and made me feel as though I was a total waste of his time. I was absolutely infuriated when I left his office, and still am!!! I clearly shall not return. Stay as far away from this practice as you can. For several years I have had back issues and during the recent holidays had a severe episode of pain necessitating a visit to urgent care for xrays and medication. They recommended a consultation with an Orthopedic Physician for further treatment. I was able to get an appointment Dr. White. Upon my arrival I was greeted by a friendly receptionist which was the only positive aspect of my visit. I was told that the Doctor was running approximately 1 hour late. As I was in so much pain, I decided to wait. After about 15 minutes, I was ushered into an examining room and seen by a young male nurse. He was curt, unfriendly and I felt like he felt it was a great imposition my being there. He informed me that they needed to take xrays to which I told him that I brought the ones from the urgent care. He stated he did not think they could use them but would check. After sitting in this room for what seemed an eternity eventually a radiology person appeared informing me that I needed xrays. I told him the young man was checking to see if the ones I gave him were ok. The radiology person summoned him and he confirmed that my xrays were ok. Later he informed me that I would still need more xrays and when I reminded him that he told me I could use mine, he denied having said so. After more than 2 hours, eventually the Dr. arrived. No apology and in fact he seemed bothered by the fact that I was there. He told me to walk on my toes and then without any further examination informed me that he could not help me until I have an MRI and to call for an appointment after I had one. His attitude was pushy and extremely arrogant. These people are so condescending and I felt like they were talking down to me and doing me a favor by even giving me the time of day. I wasted 3 hours , paid them my co-pay (which they were happy to accept) and left without any proper examination or help. One really wonders that if Dr White is so "bothered" by patients then why practice in the first place. Surely he could find something else that he would like to do better. I will NEVER go back there and strongly advise others to be aware of this practice when considering Orthopedi care. read more

As I sit here and read these reviews it compels me to add mine. In 1989 this man did surgery on my knee and in the end I almost lost my life. I spent months in the hospital after getting an infection. I told him a week after surgery I was not well and he did not listen me after 3 appointments telling him I was ill, I was taken by ambulance on the fourth trip. Many surgeries later, IVs for months, months in the hospital I lived to tell my story. This became a nightmare my then 3 small children have never forgotten. Was he young yes, was he arrogant definitely! He did not listen to my complaints, fortunately I was in great physical shape and that in the end was what helped me survive. I have since had another doctor repair the surgical errors he made. Beware and take charge of your own health! Had I listened to him I would not be here to write this review. read more

My third and final appointment he kept me waiting 1 hour and 15 minutes and then to find out he hadn't arrived yet. This is totally unacceptable! If you don't want your lung to collapse during your spinal stenosis surgery, & if you want care for your wounds-avoid this man at all costs! My family member almost died, & he had the audacity to stand there & argue w/ me in the patient's room. No one could get a hold of him though he was in the same building! I have been a patient of Dr. White for over a decade. I have two severe sports injuries I sustained in my 20's. Dr. White is the only surgeon I would want cutting I to mu spine multiple times. One patient complained he had to wait for an MRI. Yeah, that is the only way a spine surgeon can diagnosis what is wrong. And, yes, sometimes he is late. That is usually because the surgeries he does in the morning ran late. I have seen him at 5:30am and checked on me in the hospital about 8pm. Debbie and all the staff have always been extremely nice and helpful. Best doctor I have ever worked with. any spine patient would be lucky to have him in the OR. read more

I am a physician myself, an eye surgeon, and as such expect and demand more from my colleagues. Dr. White did not disappoint, in fact, he exceeded my expectations. He was thoughtful and caring, and explained each step in lay terms. A truly incredible bedside manner. He was encouraging but balanced in his discussion of risks and what would be involved in my recovery. Most importantly, he involved other specialists to reduce my risk. I have had an incredible result and am deeply thankful. I know all too well the seriousness of spine surgery and what complications can occur. Several months ago, I saw my family doctor for a low level back pain. He examined me and said that it does not look like anything serious but if I wanted to be sure he can refer me to an orthopedic specialist. But since the back pain did not go away, I asked for a referral to see Dr. Jon White. When I arrived for my appointment, I was sent for an X-ray right away before seeing a doctor first. After the X-ray a physician assistant (PA) saw me and after a cursory examination said that the X-ray does not show any issue and I should do an MRI. She also said that I should start some physical therapy (PA) until the MRI results are available. I asked how the PT would help if they do not know what is wrong. So, I did not do any PT but did an MRI, which didn't show any problem. My issue is why I saw a PA instead of the specialist and how a specialist can order an MRI without even seeing me. Maybe if the specialist had examined me first we could have avoided expensive X-ray and MRI. To me it seems that people in Dr. White's office are only interested to maximize their profit rather than what is needed for the patient read more
