WARNING: Do Not Support This Business - Deceptive and Illegal Surcharges I am writing this to strongly warn the community against supporting this establishment. I used to be a regular customer, frequently coming in to buy half a dozen to a dozen donuts, breakfast sandwiches, and hot chocolate. I usually paid in cash and never had an issue. However, recently paying with my Visa debit card via Apple Pay revealed a deeply dishonest and crooked side to how they run their business. This establishment is actively taking advantage of its customers by illegally charging a $0.50 fee on all debit card transactions. The Facts: Why This is a Scam It is important for consumers to know their rights. While merchants are legally permitted to pass along credit card processing fees under specific conditions, they are strictly prohibited from doing so with debit cards. * Debit Cards (Illegal to Surcharge): Under federal regulations and major card network rules (Visa and Mastercard), businesses cannot charge a convenience fee or surcharge for using a debit card. This applies whether you enter a PIN or run it as credit. * Credit Cards (Legal to Surcharge): Merchants are allowed to add a surcharge to credit card transactions in most states (capped around 3% to 4%), provided it is clearly disclosed to the customer. By blanketing a $0.50 fee across all cards, including debit, this business is directly violating federal guidelines and breaching their merchant agreement with their payment processors. Untrustworthy and Appalling Customer Service What makes this situation horrendous is their blatant disregard for doing the right thing. When I directly confronted the staff about why they were illegally surcharging a debit card, they had the audacity to smile and simply say, "That's how we do it here." They are fully aware of what they are doing and are proud of conning their customers. They have likely been doing this for years, operating under the insulting assumption that their customers are too uninformed to notice or care. Take Your Business Elsewhere We all work diligently for our hard-earned money. Choosing where to spend it is how we support our local community. Funneling that money into a business that repays its customers with deceptive, illegal, and morally bankrupt practices is unacceptable. Do not let them take advantage of you. I strongly urge everyone to wake up to these scamming practices, check your receipts, and stop supporting this business. They do not respect their customers, they do not respect the law, and they do not deserve your hard-earned money. read more

This donut shop is located across the street of my dentist - Le Chic Dentist. Of course I'd be craving something sweet after a cleaning, so I decided to stop by and pick up a few treats. It looked like many other items were bought out earlier as there wasn't a filled tray - but that's a good sign! I went with the glazed donut and maple donut - my usual favorites. I finished the maple donut in traffic - taste was great. I look forward to finishing the other donut soon. Another thing to note - parking lot is small. This is my local spot. The employees are really nice, especially the two sisters. They offer a lot of options, both in terms of donuts and other menu items though I've only ever had the donuts. Their old fashion and honey buns are my favorite! There is a small parking lot shared by all the businesses. Interior has plenty of seating and is kept very clean. read more

Popped in on a whim & was not disappointed. Upon walking in you will see a large seating area & a large menu, they have something for everyone. Even simple things like medicines. We were greeted by a sweet woman who seemed pleased to help us. I will start off with the old fashioned cake donut (not usually my thing, my boyfriend ordered it but I had a taste & it was delish). Next up was the blueberry filled donut...oh my lord, it was SO YUMMY, I've never had a blueberry filled donut, it was a 10/10 for me, it wasn't too sweet it was just perfect. My boyfriend's one downfall is the way the donut was filled. Typically we get donuts that are filled with a pipping bag but this one was cut in half. Not a big deal for me but I know some people have preferences. Lastly the ham & cheese croissant, it was pretty top tier for me, it was HUGE in my opinion, I shared with my boyfriend & still got full, she was able to warm it for me as well! LOVE LOVE LOVE. If anyone asks me to bring a box of donuts, I come here. Let me tell you, when I do, I always get people asking me where the donuts came from. This bakery also has these small and delicious creme puffs that are 4 for $1. If prices change when you're reading this then whoops! But right now, that's what they're going for. I come in here multiple times a week and the quality of service here is outstanding! The coffee and food is priced very reasonably (hence why I can come here multiple times a week!!) . I live in the neighborhood and I will say, compared to the other coffee shop close by this one surpasses it. It has a cozy old-fashioned feel to it which feels similar to a vintage cafe/diner and is super spacious. It really is so cool I don't know how to explain it. The lady who mainly works afternoons knows my order and promptly prepares it for me every time!! I've met all of the employees and I love all of them. This place is exactly what you'd expect from a local business. I try to support small mom & pop stores whenever I can, and there are so many donut places in the Venice area. I've stopped by this place a couple times on my way to work to buy a dozen assorted donuts, and they're a hit every time! I get a little worried whenever I try a new spot bc stale donuts are the worst, but this place has had soft regular glazed donuts when I've gone. Most recently, I stopped by to get some donuts for my friends, and they had these adorable heart-shaped donuts for Valentine's Day! How cute! The heart donuts tasted good too! read more

Stopped by Jolly Donut to grab a quick pick-me-up while I am running errands for the day. Ordered an iced vanilla latte, an iced mocha latte, a buttermilk maple donut and a sugar twist. I was pleasantly surprised by how delicious the two coffee drinks tasted. Neither was too sweet and the flavors all balanced perfectly. Espresso shots were fresh also. The two donuts were great. It was obvious they hadn't been sitting out all day. The woman behind the counter was very sweet and thoughtful. She made sure our coffee drinks were made to our liking - confirmed the number of espresso shots and type of milk for each drink. I can always count on this establishment to have my favorite Donut that is hard to find else where. They make the Donut perfectly. You know when you take a bite into a donut and you feel a hair tugging from your teeth and lips.....and it's still connected to the donut?!?! Phucking disgusting. It was baked into the donut! BOTTOM LINE: This place doesn't follow California State Board rules and regulations for working in a sanitary environment. Nor do they follow food safety rules about hair being tied back. The black/dark brown hair was around 3-4 inches long. Someone brought in donuts to the office a few days ago. It was a nice gesture. I waited a few days to ask them where the donuts came from. I really like this place! I'm a fan of Jolly Donuts. The people working there are nice, and they remember you and your order if you show up regularly. The donuts are freshly made, and they are flaky or fluffy (depending on the style). I purchased 18 donuts for a celebration at my office, and my coworkers really enjoyed the donuts, as well. My favorite donut from this location is the chocolate twist, with the chocolate old-fashioned as a close second. Also, I really enjoy their breakfast sandwiches. For $3.85, you can get a nice, flaky croissant sandwich, with egg, ham, bacon, and cheese. For $3.50, you get the same sandwich on a bagel. They make the sandwiches very quickly, and they taste pretty good. There is also a self-serve coffee station. *NOTE: They charge for coffee refills, and they do not give a discount if you bring in your own cup. As for parking, there is a very small lot at the corner of Sawtelle and Venice. The spots are at a weird angle, but there always seems to be one spot available when I stop by. I'll be back. It's a convenient location with good food at reasonable prices. I wish they made cronuts, too. *NOTE: There is a $10 minimum to pay by credit card. read more

Jolly Donut has great donuts, and I'm not really even a fan of donuts. Fluffy and soft and delicious. Their coffee cake is super good too! I got a sandwich from here and that was delicious as well. Very friendly, family owned business next to Nuevo Look (great, reasonably priced haircuts) and the Fatburger at the corner shops. They have seating inside as well, if necessary, but my son and I always take our order to go with a few extra to enjoy the next morning. I'm so glad we found this place. The donuts here are comparable to most donut spots on the westside. They're not that great, but they get the job done. What I really liked about this specific donut shop was the service! The cute, friendly little guy at the counter was so happy. When does this ever happen at a donut shop?! Almost never. I would go back just to hang out with him. They're also open 24/7! It's around 8:30 on a Friday night (3/18), I'm glad this place is still open. The place is really clean, and I had walked in there only with the aim to get a donut for myself. The nice girl that worked there was attentive and asked how she could help me right off the bat. I got the chocolate donut with peanuts on top and it wasn't too bad. Unlike some places, the donut didn't taste stale or old. What really gave this place the extra stars for me is the FRIENDLY service! Apparently I had dropped a dollar bill, and the girl that worked there went outside to find me to return it to me. For me, that earns my business to go back there again.
