We also went out for drinks after, so there. Anywho, went here to see Stopkiss. I'll get to the review on the show in a bit. First, the theater. If you go to the Waltham Public Library, walk over to Spring St., look down the road and where your blindspot is, that's the theater. It is a hidden gem that takes a bit to find, but worth the look. At the entranceway, you'll find you typical, small theater atrium before you descend stairs into their lair. The theater itself is a small space, but very, very well used. And this production was no exception to that. Stopkiss has everything going for it, from the direction, to the acting, to the choice of lights and music (I gave my friend crap for one song, but it was only because it gave me visions of a Spanish Soap Opera at a crucial time in the show, not ruining, but adding a bit of levity to an otherwise melancholy moment). The cast is fantastic, with strong moments of acting coming from everyone, and I mean everyone, in the cast. The two lead actresses Jennifer McCartney and Gabrielle Hatcher steal the show, from what, I'm not sure, and are very well supported by Michael Soulios, Jason Rutledge, Andrew Boncoddo, Carolyn Cafarelli, and Melanie Bernier. Tatiana Rutledge has maintained her keen eye and artistry and only shown strong strides of development in her role as director of the show. Nashoba Valley -- An Enchanting Afternoon Among the Vines, Followed by an Unforgettable Evening!…read more Some places offer a wonderful meal. Others offer beautiful surroundings. And then there are those rare destinations that bring together exceptional food, gracious hospitality, breathtaking scenery and unexpected little moments of delight. Nashoba Valley is one of those places! We visited last week, a party of four, and what began as a leisurely lunch turned into an absolutely magical afternoon and evening. From dining beside the grapevines and wandering through the apple orchards to wine tasting and an exquisite dinner, every part of our visit was a pleasure. Our first stop was The Knoll, where we settled in for lunch surrounded by the beauty of the vineyards. The sandwiches were excellent, and our server was an absolute delight--warm, cheerful, attentive and always smiling. But the highlight of our afternoon was something entirely unexpected. As we sat enjoying our lunch, we noticed the grapevines nearby. When we learned that we were welcome to pick and taste the grapes directly from the vines, we were thrilled! These were the tiniest, sweetest little grapes, bursting with natural sweetness. There we were, four adults, having the most marvelous time plucking grapes straight from the vines and savoring every bite. It was such a simple pleasure, yet it became one of the most memorable moments of our visit. There is something wonderfully indulgent about enjoying nature's bounty right where it grows! After lunch, we took a leisurely stroll through the beautiful orchard, admiring the apple trees and picking a few apples along the way. The grounds were lovely, and the entire experience had that unhurried, quintessentially New England charm that makes an afternoon in the countryside so special. Our next stop was wine tasting, another thoroughly enjoyable experience and a lovely way to spend the afternoon before heading to J's Restaurant for dinner. And what an extraordinary way to end the day! J's is an absolute gem. From the outside, the rustic farmhouse has an understated, old-world charm. Step inside, however, and you discover an interior that is cozy, elegant and stunningly beautiful. It strikes that wonderful balance between refined dining and the warmth of a country home. The atmosphere is inviting and intimate, without a hint of pretension. The dinner itself was phenomenal. Every dish we ordered was beautifully prepared and absolutely delicious. The quality of the food, the presentation and the attentive hospitality made for a truly memorable dining experience. By the time we finished our meal, we were so delightfully satisfied that we simply couldn't contemplate dessert. But J's had one final surprise in store for us! We were told that the owner has a charming tradition for guests who don't order dessert. Moments later, out came the most whimsical little treat: complimentary cotton candy, beautifully presented in elegant glasses! It was completely unexpected, wonderfully playful and such a delightful gesture. After an exquisite dinner, this little flourish brought smiles to all our faces. It was the perfect finishing touch to an already exceptional evening. What impressed me most about Nashoba Valley was the genuine warmth and hospitality we encountered throughout our visit. From our lovely server at The Knoll to the gracious service at J's, everyone made us feel welcome. There is an unmistakable sense of pride and care here, not only in the food and wine but also in the experience they create for their guests. Nashoba Valley is so much more than a winery or a restaurant. It is a destination to be savored. Come for a leisurely lunch, linger among the vineyards, wander through the orchards, enjoy a wine tasting and finish with a beautiful dinner at J's. Better still, bring your friends and family and make an entire day of it, as we did. We arrived expecting a pleasant afternoon in the countryside and left with wonderful memories, full hearts and very full stomachs! An absolutely enchanting experience from beginning to end. We both love theater and met doing improv with the UMASS Amherst group Mission: IMPROVable. We were delighted to learn of a theater within walking distance to our new house and bought tickets to see the show. The production was well-paced and hilarious, and we were impressed with the welcoming atmosphere. I became involved with the theater almost immediately, appearing in the 2003 New Works Festival and working backstage for their production of "True West." My husband was also in a production that spring. We have remained involved with Acme ever since. We have both been given the opportunity to expand our skills (him: directing, me: stage managing and producing) and count our Acme "family" as among our closest friends. I can't imagine life in Maynard with Acme Theater.
